i was 17 when Sweet hits the charts with *funny funny * not my style .
FROM wig wam bam where chin and chapman let the band play their own music , that s the beginning in my opinion .bECAUSE there were troubles in Belgium , i never was a perform of them .... too sad .Brian got beaten up by some guys in june 74 , they thought he was trying to steal their girls .They kicked im very badly in the throat .And some keys were to high but still he stands .To sad to see him at the age of 52 looks old
I've watched about 3 different documentries on Sweet. This band was a collection of good musicians, that met and worked their way up during changing times. Steve seems like he was the muse of the group. Brian was very personable to the media & fans. Mick was an ultra-pro drummer, 1975 drum solo still lives in my sole. Andy fit the lead guitar, like Steve with his bass, excellent match! Too bad we lost Brian and Mick, RIP, judging by comments on all videos "Sweet", neither is forgotten!!!
Reall enjoyed and admired the Sweet in many ways-excellent musicians and writers, performers.
Just a sad documentary about how the slimy music biz can eat you alive and practically take your soul before you're even dead. I've been a professional musician a few times in my life,,but gave up touring and just play sporadically.
Vicious game is music. I love music but HATE the lifestyle.
Oh my God! The man could hardly walk and shaking... Never seen relatively such a young man in such a bad shape... RIP Steve! WTF did you do with your life?
@townwood Thanx for the info Mik.. A friend was interested.1 thing that none of us can say is that the boy's in Sweet touched allot of peoples lives and still do and set some standards for bands that were to come.A remarkable group that happened for a reason. They're one of the bands that greatly inspired me to pick up the guitar.Thanx again very much.
@townwood Once a group hits me like Sweet it stays with me.I suppose why these boys are more special in my heart is because they've not been given the respect they deserve or recognition for their contribution in music here in the states. They started a musical trend that hundreds of acts borrowed from. They were big everywhere else with over 50 MILLION record sales. And how many hits?No 1hit wonders here.Very consistant.Fantastic to see so many views & interest on YT.Thanx everyone for your posts.
i saw Brian in the Pivillon in Ayr Scotland not long after this was made and met him back stage after the gig he was a quivering wreak !!! could hardly speak with out a tremmer in his voice and had to be helped on stage by 2 guys who propped him up against the mic stand he was the only original member. But i'll tell straight when he opend his mouth and started singing every hair on my body stood on end he was fecking AWESOME HE HAD NOT LOST A THING !!! best gig i have ever been to
brian ended up a wreck, andy seems ok but a control freak, steves now massively overweight & needs to lose it,and mick who seemed the healthiest got terminal, they certainly lived fast.
Brian didn't have Parkinson's .After his series of heart attacks (due to alcohol abuse) his body was weakened and when he then(at a later date ) had a bout of unrelated illness, it adversely affected his spine .I think that this is what caused him to shake.Brian also suffered damage to his ankle when he was involved in a serious car crash :this effected the way that he walked.Brian is now with the 'Great Physician ' R.I.P BC !
@0011vivaldi As someone else has commented on the comments, Brian says 'relations or kin' meaning no family, basically. Hope that clears that up for you!!!!
@0011vivaldi Brian didn't know his real family because he was adopted. He thought his foster parents were his real parents, but at 18 discovered they were not. By the way, your English is very good. I don't understand everything Brian says either!
I was a great fan of Brian and last saw him in 1992. It was one of the best nights of my life.
@goldendoris21 Initially alcohol abuse was the main factor responsible for the downturn in Brian's health , but please look at my comment (further down ) from 2 months ago for a more extensive summary to BC's tragic health history. One thing that I forgot to mention was that Brian had suffered for years with stomach ulcers before his days of heavy drinking .
I agree with the majority of comments. The Sweet(and especially Brian)deserved a more objective, respectful take then the one they received here. Insteading of zeroing in on how ravaged and pathetic Connolly had become, they could have devoted a bit more time to the band's considerable achievements. Its hard to believe now but Heavy Metal was out of style and on the ropes in the mid 70's. Sweet and a few other acts kept it alive until its late 70.s revival. That could have been mentioned.
'Connolly died in 1997. He had apparently been very distressed by a Channel 4 documentary that had followed his desperate, hopeless attempts to join the glam rock comeback trail. Scott calls the programme "sickening".
Hi townwood. Many thanks for this video. I never saw that material before. Realy hard to see Brian in that bad condition. But the music will be forever.
I loved the Sweet now for good 40 years , can say some more then before, but we can see what the stupid poison alcohol can do with good peoples, so sad , tragic, take care ......., RIP Brian and Mick.... go to the light
There's always a freak show angle to later programs about Brian. He was ravaged by a disease called alcoholism, nobody would ever portray a cancer sufferer in this way.
I've watched all three parts now. Tragic, but greatly produced documentary. Sadly - he's shaking, can barely walk and has a bit indistinctive speech and looks totally washed out. Like he was 90 years old. But directly whenever you see him, you know there's no one like him. He was totally original.
Yes, it was shown on Channel 4 and just about finished him off. Hope the nasty manipulative little shitbag who made it is proud of themself.
Yes of course you see what you see but the way it was edited to tell the story the makers wanted to is a disgrace and bears no ressemblance to reality.
Respect to you for putting this up townwood but it's horrible that this is the only real documentry about Sweet out there. It could have been so much better without resorting to fiction
Brain reminds me of my mother when she was 50. The drinking caused her to have a lot of the same medical effects he was dealing with. RIP to both.

@townwood Any idea how old Brian was in this documentary?Thank you for posting this,as sad and difficult as it is to watch
MrJohnnyDistortion 5 months ago
@MrJohnnyDistortion Hi there. Brian lived to be 51 years old. Hi died 9 February 1997
This documentary was shot in 1996, about 6 month before he's premature death.
He was 50 years old, when this documentary was made, but he looked like 65.
It's so sad to watch. He deserved better.
Lots of love.
Mik.

Hi townwood, thx for uploading.
Still got tears in the eyes...
Heroes of my childhood.
sure, drug/alcohol abuse was one reason, but did Brian have parkinson??
RIP, Brian and Mick...God bless you

I agree with you. It is a well produced documentary.
But still Brian appears to be an old bitter man. And that's a shame, cause without Brian, The Sweet would never exist!!!
townwood 1 year ago 2
Thanks for your information.
The reason why I find it so hard to look at, is the poor state we see Brian's health is in.
What I find repulsing is the way that the producers of this documentary, manage to make Brian look like a bitter man.
A sad ending of a brilliant performer.
