lol, I saw this on TV while studying. Had no idea what it was about, but that last battle was intense! Since coming to Japan, I`ve really started getting into sumo. I look forward to returning to the states and still being able to watch it till July because of you!
Thanks very much Jason for all the videos and hard works. I know you enjoy when you doing this , but still ...you know.. By the way i'm mongolian and i was able to watch it in my mongolian language, but it was more fun to watch it on your chanel .. thanks again ..but i am little bit sad because of Asa and his injury ...what do you think will he be able to recover all the injury and come back on july like an old time Asa ?
I thought they were directly created by the gods and sprang from the rocks of mountains!
*lol*
He shares his spontaneous rhetoric abilities with many athletes I guess... ask them questions after a game and they'll say the weirdest or most simplistic stuff.... I wonder whether there is such a collection on YouTube... :-)
It's possible that they were focusing on his mother since she was alone watching him, since his father was killed last year in Mongolia in a traffic accident. At least they didn't ask "What would you like to tell your Dad about today?" or something like that.
He speaks fine. The news had more of the interview (which was cut off on this broadcast) and he spoke more - he was kinda being funny by only saying "I'm happy" during the first part - he has a reputation for being taciturn. But yeah - that's just silly - he speaks Japanese just fine.
I also have a question. Do you know what the commentators were talking about when they were wondering if they should crack jokes about the Prime Minister? Is there some scandal with the PM or something? Just curious.
not sure really. Aso has been a very wishy-washy PM so far, and made some gaffes while public speaking, but I know of nothing recent.
The one commentator that was making those remarks is a bit of a tool actually - he knows about sumo, but is really arrogant. Luckily he's only on occasionally.
Harumafuji deserved to win the title for sticking with it to the end, but Hakuho gave it away when he lost to a very inconsistent Kotooshu. It's been a tough year for Hakuho, going 43-2 and have just 1 title to show for it.
Jason, do you think Harumafuji will take that next stop and become Yokozuna in July (he'd have to go 14-1 and win the cup again I would think)? Or is he going to be like Kotooshu who caught fire for one tournament but never found the consistency to be better?
I think Harumafuji has a brighter future ahead of him than Kotooshu, but the pressure will be huge in Nagoya in July for him to repeat. If he can do it, then there has to be serious talk about making him a yokozuna.
Thanks Jason. Amazing tournament and amazing entertainment. Keep it alive Buddy. We need english version of sume tournament. Hope we will find your recordings of sumo in July. Keep it up
That lady that is translating as hes answering is amazing. I can't imagine a more challenging task. She does it at the same time as he's speaking! Amazing.
I thought Harumafuji's couldnt speak japanese when he kept just saying Ureshii desu but he was just being funny lol.
Ahhh! First off, many congratulations to Harumafuji! Amazing performance! This has been a great tournament! Second, thank you Jason for your dedication! I would be looking up statistics on the official Grand Sumo homepage still if not for you! Thank you so much! See you in July!
Thanks for your videos Jason, this tournament was my first real foray into sumo and let me tell you, I enjoyed the ride. I'll be tuning back in for the July Basho, but in the mean time, I hope you'll have time to make some more videos for your other channel.
Thanks for all of your videos Jason. As you know, I am a HUGE fan (literally) of sumo and I enjoy watching the matches on your channel because of your comments and informing us of updates on the wrestlers, histories of the rikishi, and your thoughts on the matches. I am so glad Harumafuji won this basho. His first, but not his last! In America, if American Idol is still on, they will interrupt the next program. I don't care about American Idol, I care about Sumo! LOL!
