  • Autobahn i was on it in europe and witnessed a car crash and it was from the tour bus. also i read about this song-somebody ...was this a top 40 hit? also what 10 incher did they release that was chucked out in the middle of the street when i was a child in the 1980's?

longest album version of a top 40 hit-now where is the edited 45 rpm?

  • 5 people took the wrong exit

  • great with headphones!

  • I have the vinyl, transferred it onto CD. Listened to the edited single on radio back in '74. This is groundbreaking music. Timeless.

  • I'm 13 and i love kraftwerk!!

  • Awesome track, who cares how old it is, I was 12 when this was released and my dad came home with this record, there simply was nothing like it at the time ... he had these amazing Kef speakers which could shake the windows from this track and I used to lay next to them for a bass fix lol

Needless to say I have the album in vinyl and was the first CD I even bought, I had to import it from Germany too, for you oldies of course the vinyl sounds a lot better on a good deck :D

  • 懐かしい!

    高校の頃聞いてました。

  • this transcends age time thought sooo f'ng grooving

  • this transcends age time thought sooo f'ng grooving

  • Thanks for posting the full version xx

  • Nadie quiere desperdiciar 22 minutos de su vida en esto, excepto nosotros, los melomaniacos.

  • @Alabanzaygracia Nos no desperdiciamos 22 minutos, nos encantan esos 22 minutos. Spanish class pays off! :D

  • This is more a work of art than it is a song.

  • @Lenguagestar Lol Everything except for Kraftwerk sucks balls

  • @CryotoxinDubstep Go Back To Your Brostep Then!

  • Saw these guys at the Paramount in Seattle in '74. They have to be the inventors of "the wall of sound" concept! I felt that concert in my chest for about 2 days after!

  • @Lenguagestar ME TOO! try the beach boys.

    love this song!

  • When people bring up there age when they mention music from the past, i never hear people say stuff like, im in grade 4 and i listen to mozart...........and another thing, its always the same bands younger people mention, the beatles, the stones, the doors, pink floyd, and of zeppelin......heyy kid, whats ur fav song from each of the bands you mentioned

  • The second greatest thing about Kraftwerk is meeting people and friends and committing computer fraud at various bus stops.

  • The greatest thing about Kraftwerk is the free fibbies!

  • zie er weer een reclame in.,.......

  • Your video went viral on Lusaka

  • A classic masterpiece.

  • The program is called "Out of Bounds" I think, it was about gymnasts and had this track as its theme.

  • Have always loved this track. It has to be played on a good hi-fi quite loud in the dark with your eyes shut, what am I doing now? Im actually listening to it through some good ole fashioned Sennheisers :) absolutely brilliant many thanks.

  • @TruckRacingNut Try driving this through a classic 4 channel receiver (vis a vis Sansui QRX-6500) into a set of Wharfdale E Series speakers. Enough to make you pee yourself in ectasy. Seriously, listened to this while blasting down I-80 across the Salt Lake Flats in Utah. Speeding ticket waiting to happen. In the day of the dreaded 55 speed limit. In a Porsche 914/6. And yes, I was committing hebicide.

  • Can anybody remember the kids tea-time TV Programme part of this track was used for the sound-track to the end credits?

  • @palletpress Was it a bit like John Cravens Newsround sort of thing?

  • Rare! Fine! Amazing full track!

  • trololol

  • My first LP, was allowed to occasionally play it in school common room. Also slightly broadened my German vocabulary

  • Brilliant. Totally ahead of their time. After saying that, - the stuff they did after this is crap.

  • @headintheshedable Tour de France, Transeurope Express, The Model are all crap ?

  • @Farmlandsfallfan Well, perhaps not crap, Ill take that back. To be honest I found them a bit too 'poppy' for my liking. Nowhere near as good as Autobahn.

  • A masterpiece.

  • This was the first music I have put on a metal tape cassette when I was an audiophile teenager. Just fills one side of a C-46 tape.

  • よい旅でした!

  • よい旅でした!

  • Love this song...in fact all of Kraftwork when I have to drive long distances.

  • Kraftwerk are brilliant. They're a really nice bunch of guys too. I remember when they took me to see The Three Amigos at the cinema. They paid for the ticket, 7up and the popcorn. They're a really nice, genuine bunch of German blokes.

  • I say in general "Autobahn" is Kraftwerk's greatest achievement from them. I just love how there's more melodic structures than their first three albums altogether.

  • There are echoes of this piece in nearly every synthesizer composition I create. I also loved early Tomita and Larry Fast (Synergy) and learned from them. But this is the piece that planted the seed. This is the one that not only sounded new, but actually went someplace new. This wasn't "switched-on old music." This was "future music."

  • @Aejotz I had a thought for a video-take Holst the Planets, Mars the Bringer of War and show B&W clips of 20th century warfare with the final crescendo showing the Hiroshima A-Bomb. Then start up with Tomita's Mars the Bringer of War showing cold war clips of the modern weapons-jets, submarines, ICBM's then leading into future war concepts. Just a thought.

  • the people who hit 'dislike' were shifting the gearbox and hit 'dislike' by mistake! so don't feel anger, wish them safe journey :D

  • Awesome thing in the beginning with the car!

  • it is classic music, like mozart and hándel

  • takes me back 1976.....just turned 19 :)

  • @Floydfan717 : the same !

  • 3 people crashed on autobahn

  • @obviouslyivan 3 people are pedestrians on the autobahn have them arrested for jay walking :)

  • @obviouslyivan make it four!! haha Kraftwerk crashed

  • There is a beautiful scene in 'Control', the 2007 movie about the life and death of Ian Curtis when snippets of Autobahn are played. Joy Division are going on tour and Curtis is falling for a black haired Belgian rock journalist who offers an escape from dreary northern England

  • A 20th century classic. It has aged well, in that it doesn't sound "modern", but you can tell how other great electronica bands have listened and learned from this masterful piece. That middle flutey bit is so 70s library music for schools (UK style).. You can tell the Ghostbox bands have tuned in! Wonderful! Only thing, the closest we have to proper autobahnen in the UK is the M4 as it passes Heston Services. Not quite the same music/road ethic :-)

  • College days.....Sprawled out on the couch. Harmon-Kardon on. Headphones on. Lights off. Doobie lit. Off on a cross-country trip with Kraftwerk!

  • @silverestor Why Headphones? Aren't speakers better?

  • @iannickCZ well they are better for your ears

  • "Wir fahren fahren fahren auf der autobahn. Wir fahren fahren fahren auf der autobahn."

We drive drive drive on the Autoban. So happy and peaceful.

  • ICH LIEBE DICH!

  • pure class

  • I'm pretty sure that this is forever the greatest song in the world.

  • I love this as much today as i did as a kid in 1974

  • das ist gut! That,s all i remember from Fraulein Benke in Lewis Girls school Ystrad Mynach! Loved Kraftwerk to lighten the day! stezyrezy

  • Comment removed

  • this needs/deserves way more views

  • love and devotion

  • I'm a kid. I don't listen to the pure crap that everyone listens today. I listen to: Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and principally, KRAFTWERK, that I hear since when I was 4 year old. I'm the only guy of my SCHOOL that listens a lot of classic songs.

  • @Lenguagestar Who the fuck cares? I mean, nice tastes, but shut the fuck up and listen to the music, nobody cares how old you are.

  • @Lenguagestar switch schools

  • @Lenguagestar same as me

  • @Lenguagestar wow. You´re a special flower.

  • @Lenguagestar Good man! Always set your own standards and goals in life! Never follow others just to be with the in crowd...you be the in crowd.

  • @Lenguagestar me 2 especialy pinkfloyd

  • @Lenguagestar

"Classic" doesn't mean anything. Good music is always good music.

  • @Lenguagestar

It's great that your listening to classic music but I highly doubt your the only guy in your school that listens to it. Your probably making assumptions because a good majority don't dress or act like they listen to classic songs.

  • @HaloSpice I'm Not Even Sure That I'm The Only One. I Have A Proof. When They Drop Rock Music In My School Radio, Everyone Says That It's Bad. They Drop "Moves Like Jagger", "I Gotta Feeling" And Other Stuff Everyone Go And Start Cheering. A REAL Radio Show Is When You Play Unknown Music, Not Music That You Hear All The Time.

  • @Lenguagestar Your school sounds like a bunch of pussies, by the way don't put caps on each word, it's irritating as shit to read. lol, peace!

  • @Lenguagestar you're so special

  • almost 40 years after, and always so good, the quality is timeless

  • Genius, just genius. Kraftwerk, Neu!, Can, Faust. Germany was owning music so hard back in the days.

  • @Jornaquin

Sure, those bands (Kraftwerk, Neu, Can, Faust) were amazing but there are other German bands that were as good if not better! = Popol Vuh, Ash Ra Temple, Klaus Schulze, Amon Duul II, Harmonia, Guru Guru, etc.

Another German band that was ahead of the curve was Necronomicon. Check out "Tips zum Selbstmord" from 1972

  • Any German should be rightly proud of this. Like much of Kraftwerk's output, it conveys a sense of Germanic pride and identity that isn't encumbered by racist, totalitarian baggage. The vision is one of optimism and confidence on the part of a culture that has learned from its past mistakes and is reinventing itself in a modern hi tech world

  • @ik127 ...Greetings from the U.S.A.!!! -and thank you very much for the sublime upload of this FULL VERSION!!! --I simply cannot say enough...of what hearing this wonderful song -truly means to me... =) [...from the very first moment of discovery --it was absolutely, LOVE -at first listen!]...

~This record remains for me --the absolute stardard and precident...for which to appreciate audio purity *(...phonographs in particular)...as well as an excellent resource to calibrate sound quality. THX

  • Unfortunetaly, we don't have autobahn in Lithuania. If we had one, i definately listend to this :(. P.S. Who else thinks this is somehow similar to DaftPunk?

  • The German Pink Floyd.......

  • More awesome than can be said!

(Deutsche Welle)

  • Typical Germans - precision automobiles to listen to perfect music. Great memories!!! Thanks for posting.

  • Gawd, I have this record is someone wants it.

  • why is this a different cover of the album?

mine's got a dashboard and a mirror across the bottom

and yes you can see them sitting in the back seat

  • @PrankZabba This record was released, re-released, bootlegged and whatnot about 66 times. That's a lot for a record, and it attests to the legend of it. Search youtube for "discogs kraftwerk autobahn" if you want to see many of them.

  • I thought porn was forbidden on youtube ^^

  • Fucking Beyond Amazing..

  • 22 minutes of pure sex.

  • yes a masterpiece these dudes are great if this lp was released today in 2011

it would be a million seller no question time less thank you you tube

  • Europe will allways be the home of great thoughts!

  • Thanks a million!! Brilliant....

  • a magnificint representation of the unfolding future!

  • I first heard this record in jr. high. I was a sole appreciation society for this record! My friends didn't get it but I'm glad i did! Thanks for posting this masterpiece!

  • Superb!

    Saludos desde México!

  • Magnificent! Thankyou, I was 13....memories!

  • My God, I havent heard this musical work in its entirety in over 30 years ago! Thank you for posting! Very hypnotic and trance-like! I have this record on vinyl somewhere in my collection!

  • Modern Symphony!

  • aah! this album + "oxygene" by jarre influenced me (probably like thousands of others!) to take up synthesizer playing!!! absolute classic !

  • This song still gives me goosebumps! :)

  • today being driving on the A1 in Germany ( I love the Autobahn, no speed limit ) and! with my CD with Kraftwerk Autobahn on.

  • @ik127

I agree with you, it must be very interesting

  • This is great music, even now in 2011. That's why there are 0 dislikes!

  • @reinbertio Make that 2 TROLOLOL

  • @reinbertio 3 people never drive on "Autobahn"

  • Excerpts from this (3.53) are used to great effect in the 2007 'Control' when Ian Curtis goes on tour with Joy Division and begins to fall for a beautiful black haired girl called Annick

  • @TomthatiscalledTom Agreed, in just a few bars it perfectly captures the contrast between life in gritty northern England held back by its past, vs a vision of optimism in a reborn, modern Europe. Masterfully done.

  • Can I find somewhere only parts of this song? I really like the second melody.

  • I have two copies of this album, used to put on my headphones, close my eyes and imagine driving along the autobahn.

  • Thanks!

I can't find the album in my city!

  • golden earring, kraftwerk, tangerine dream, triumvirate, scorpians, ufo, and rammstein!

  • @jmaxcamp if your trying to name German bands than fail, golden earring is from the Netherlands :P

  • @jammerlaan thanks for the information. i just like these European bands. not sure what i was trying to say. small english lesson. then not than. you're not your. but i say this with friendship. thank you!

  • These guys really were far ahead in time

  • Omg imagine what the reaction to this was in 74', listen to those cars! that's some of the coolest musical interpretation I have ever heard.

  • Should be in a VW commercial.

  • @skooter72 lo, they are lot wanking in this time on vw beetles and mercedes W112 lol

  • i swear im passing the lil white vw. the black saab goes by my left.

  • perfect

  • This album was first... :) In electronica and the trancemusic, and D'N'Bass.... and other types of new electronic music.... Without Krafterk might would be nothing...... Techno would be not a techno...at all.... or other electric music....

Sorry for my English language, I'm not Englishman......

But Kraftwerk was beggining....... And live forever

  • So essentially this album was the birth of electronica? Might be a good idea to purchase it.

  • thats why i love moog sound

  • To me this is a symphony in three movements for Moog synthesizer and flute. The three movements as I hear them are: Afternoon/Dusk, Evening/Night, and Dawn/Morning. Listen to the big trucks passing by in the night, bringing goods to various parts of West Germany. Hear the analog radio - Blaupunkt? - being tuned. Be cheered by the positive, uplifting feeling. Thank you, Kraftwerk, for recording this, and thank you "ik127" for posting this classic on YouTube!

  • i love the doppler sound and the talkbox effect

  • i love the dopplers in this song, and the part nun wir schaltet der radio an aus die speaker kling es dann

  • lautsprecher

  • Apparently for the sound effects in this, they drove down the road while Ralf held a microphone out the window. That must've been an interesting sight. "Yeah, don't mind us, we're just making musical history. Nbd"

  • and you hear on 14:26 RTTY (telex) in amplitude modulation

  • the best album ever

  • Congratulations, buddy. You've made a very good work. The sound is amazing.

  • How did you get to upload the entire song? I thought Youtube had a time limit?

  • @luvrman2009 you thought wrong

  • My 78 rpm Autobahn went on a trip long ago and left me "thumbing". Thanks for the ride.

  • You might want to correct your description. It says the song was released in 1947, lol.

  • @Shadowtechnique

    Thanks!

  • @ik127 badass song.great if your driving across country, thanks.i thought i wouldn't find this version.

  • @ik127 Brings back memories of the eight-track tapes back in the mid 70s and early 80s. I’m still blown away with this recording. Fantastic piece. Thanks for posting! SHAME.. my wife is 100% Kraut and doesn’t appreciate this piece of music…YET! The Germans had excellent recordings in those days. I guess you have to put on a pair of headphones and turn it up to enjoy this type of music… like in the 70s..

  • @Shadowtechnique They're just that innovative.

  • Thank you so much for posting the full 1974 version, it's hard to find it. You've made a great contribution to YouTube. I love this sound...it's so cheerful yet calming at times.
