a very interesting video! However, in my opinion, one should always avoid the ground, especially if one is fighting someone who prefers the ground (a "grappler"). Hence, a sprawl is not a true counter to a "takedown", as you are also going down. I would say that at 1:10 to 1:17 in this video, that is more of a true takedown defense using boxing. :)
this is good training. we call this the Chuck Liddell/Randy Couture drill. one guy is chuck and one is randy. chuck is on a mission to sprawl and brawl and randy is all about the takedowns, BUT both need to wear some gloves. you takedown gets 10x easier when you set it up with some punches. here your opponent is just rushing at you with no set up so as soon as he moves you know to sprawl and back up and circle. you know what is coming so it's not realistic.
a well trained boxer and has some knowledge of KB Mthai or grappling techs, could easily defeat someone a grappler needs to stay close, easy to counter for a boxer specially an in fighter boxer; a kick or thai boxer throw his kick with tension easy to break if you hit the point of tension( between the patella and the patella tendom, the kick or thai boxer will not be able to move before that, and even if you break your hand trust me the thai or KB will feel more pain
More than a decade in Traditional Japanese Arts. And the last three doing Western Arts, not with the intensity, regularity or dedication that I would like to, but that´s just life.
Well, you're either out of your mind or you don't know Wing Chun. I love to hear people comment about WC who don't know wc. I have BB in Karate, I taken bjj and m.thai for a short while and let me tell you, wing chun has the anti-grapplg tech; even similar 2 what I've seen shammrock do; follows contact/reflexes, misdirection, etc.. i had to get rid of bad habbits I got from Karate, hard to do
buen entrenamiento!!
felicidades.......sigan asi!!

".....with simple boxing techniques", were are the techniques ? Were is the effectiveness ?
vince84231 4 years ago
I believe you don´t know the meaning of training.
Do you think you can win a fight without knowing how to throw a Punch? And yet you are talking about effectiveness?
If Sprawl and Brawl are not on your combat vocabulary definitely you will never understand the concept of anti clinch.

Hum... take a look at "wing chun anti clinch" or "wing chun on the ground" ... Clear, simple, effective. As a puncher You just can't ignore it. Thanx

Not true sprawling is good. But Takedowns are 1000 times more than a simple double leg.

Finally. I get to see a boxer not get totally ass raped by a grappler. Good job on both warriors.

Great work, my friend.
The warrior's path is one of honestly experiencing and testing, never giving up growing.
You are truly "walking the walk".

Very true, thanks for the advice.

Good training. Sprawling needs alot of work...focus on sprawling...then get up and brawl...grapplers shoots or clinches...sprawl...then brawl.
