lynyrd skynyrd rocks today and forever. this track is very good / brilliant and speaks to me and those who enjoy proper rock music and those who are free to think how they want.
I love this band. WTF is it with these zipper heads "the south is gonna rise again" Grow up. Those who fought in the CSA army are honoured veterans. They fought and endured mass hardships but get with the times. This is a song for Mr Rossington not to start another war. Peace :D
@Jaketheoutlaw You don't get it, brother. It's not about starting a war it is about the American people standing against the abuses of our government and saying with one voice "enough". THAT is the spirit of the confederacy. No one wants a war but the silent majority is finally beginning to speak up and tell the whining shitheads to sit down and stfu.
@10yearvet Diffrence between a division of cultures and a seperation of soverign states. Im only a students and don't know too much about the USA's political system but honestly "it is the worst system... besides all others." - Winston Churchill It works best it can. At least you guys have enshrined rights. God knows i want to live in the US. what is so bad about your system?
@Jaketheoutlaw It's not the system that is bad. I believe ANY system of gov't would work well. True communism and socialism would also be good if the principles are adhered to. Our system was intended to be a system of mutual courtesy and respect combined with the concept of opportunity for individual success through hard work and integrity. It worked for a while but now it is a system of "we gotta take care of those poor unfortunate lazy ass whining criminals"
@10yearvet I don't agree that comunism works. I do agree with what ur saying i would agree with limited socialism. Just lax it when times get better. Ive been out of work for 2 years and have only just got a job. It's hard to find work at the moment but it's gonna get better. Like you said once you get on the ladder then it's hard work and integrity. Give people the means to help themselves. All the best m8
@Jaketheoutlaw I actually stated "true" communism. I agree that communism as a government form does not work. works great in small community form but not my preference. I agree with your view of socialism. Glad you are back to work. lost my job 3 years ago. high responsibility pay not commensurate but it was work I loved. Made hard decisions and moved my family where my Daughter would at least have family around. Work is a major issue for me however. Attempting to build my own.
@10yearvet I don't believe that true comunism would work but hay we are all diffrent. But thats why. I do wish you and your family all the best and good luck.
@prettyjohnshill14 Christian values guide our individual ethics and is a personal thing. Capitalism is an economic system, Socialism is a form of Gov't. Communism is used as a form of gov't but is in fact a system of living within a community (the smaller the better) that gets perverted when Gov't gets involved. Christian values (or good ethics, if one prefers) should guide everyones actions insuring success of any or all three systems.
@10yearvet communism is making the state your God. socialism (as we have in Wales and the uk) is a way lazy people get to sit around and do nothing while we pay for them. capitalism (the fractional reserve system) you have in america, is just a way of bringing in communism by deliberately corrupting a system which works.
'those who will not be governed by God, will be ruled by tyrants' william penn.
@prettyjohnshill14 TRUE communism is a community of people coming together to live and share. Want to see an example, read Corinthians! It is NOT what the world is claiming. Doesn't work as a form of government. Agree with you on Socialism as a form of Gov't Again Paul tells the Corinthians to kick the lazy people out. If you ever felt that you should recieve compensation for goods or services you provided then YOU are a capitalist. The entire world practices capitalism.
@10yearvet yes. capitalism in it's true form is as you've described. however usery(FRB) is not. communism as you've described would work for a small community, but as you've stated, it would/has/will not work as a form of government.
you don't believe you should recieve compensation for goods or service you provide? or have i missunderstood your comment?
i'm not trying to be an ****hole, it's just i'd never heard anyone condone communism on a rebel song before.
@prettyjohnshill14 Yes you misunderstood. I am a firm believer in capitalism and being compensated. Usury has nothing to do with capitalism. It is abuse of the populace by enslaving them with debt and interest that they can never pay off. My comment was directed at your statement saying that capitalism is used to usher in communism (in the definition that the world thinks of). Seemed to me that you were stating that capitalism was bad.
@prettyjohnshill14 ......and I don't know how you could have construed that I condone communism, again, as the world thinks of it as a form of gov't. Have had personal experience and know too many people that risked their lives to escape Communist gov'ts. I stated that TRUE communism can work in small communities. It is a way of life but NOT a gov't. These communities, communes, exist in every country. They work for these people but they are small. Not for me however.
@prettyjohnshill14 I, for one, don't consider an exchange of thoughts a waste of time. Helps me to solidify my thoughts and I learn from the other person. I'm not one of those that think I am always right. Our discussion brought new views for me to think about. I appreciate that.
@10yearvet Wise words from a wise man. Wouldnt expect anything else from a Skynyrd fan though to bad my generation can understand that there to worried about reality tv and mtv hip hop awards
@latchbandit Don't know about that wise stuff, man. If I was a wise person I should have seen a lot of this garbage coming down on us and been able to do something about it. IF I am a very wise person it must correspond directly to the huge mistakes I have made.

Something Ronnie would have wanted. This is a hell of a song and this is a hell of a band. Get behind them now and support them before the music is GONE anmd it will be too late. JMO.
this song reminds me of my grandfather, he was a vietnam vet and to this day still rides a harley, every time he put back a few in the bar he plays this song has alot of meaning to me, thanks for the upload
Great song about Gary Rossington and to this day I always wonder if when on stage does he think about Ronnie, Allen, Steve, Leon, and Billy. I know I do and wonder what Skynyrd would be if they were all alive and jammin together !!!!!!
Ed King's slide on the outro is priceless....he told me once he did and even better take prior but the engineer blew the recording (analog tape days)....it's so cool....almost no picking...just slide and feedback.
The standout song from this album by far ...... and when I heard their unplugged album 'endangered species'...i loved all the new songs they did but this was the only redone song that i liked on that album... (my opinion only)
i am a city hillbilly replubican rebel (proud jew) and i am pissed at the liberals, how the libeals got their way back then and to the day, frm the civil war to 'nam,to the gulf to iraq, to aphgan, there is no stop to them, support the tebels, make this song not true, that there are still rebels, that we still beleive, this song should not ever come true, (i think this song is based on their gym teacher dying) don't let leonard skinner be the last rebel, never
I love this song,It is truely an awsome song .skynard put so much feeling into it nobody else could have made it sound so heart felt...It was played at my brother's funeral. It truely descibes the man my brother was and always will be remembered.
had this really pretty gal was crazy about her till i found out she wasnt a skynard fan so i kicked her to the curb now shes a buscuit lip lover and im much better off . Love this music it lives in our souls and our hearts as well
@TheMariachi7 it's weird, the world lost to wonnie's, van zant and dio, both very good singers, both will be missed (i like both country and metal/hard rock
Only Rock & Metal can deliver such great atmosphere (You wonder why I said metal? Listen to the song "Down in Desperation" by Thunderhead, I'm sure almost everyone who likes "The last rebel" will also like this song... Metal is more than Metallica & Slipknot, trust me!)
Some music makes you want to dance, other makes you want to sing. Rarely does a song come along that makes you want to reflect and think about your past. This song does it for me. Burning the candle at both ends, living life on the edge, and do things others only dream about.I 've lived loved, laugh and lost. Thank you God for watching over me.
great song, too bad they never came out with a video to it. As a Civil War reenactor I can think of some really great footage to use for it. I'd start at a point near the end of the war and show a gaunt Confederate cavalryman riding over a battlefield with all the destruction and carnage....then at the end show his modern relative, a Vietnam veteran riding away on a Harley.
@bluegreydude4 Do you really think that the Confederates and the US in Vietnam were fighting for the same things? The US in Vietnam was a lot more like the Union in what it was trying to accomplish.
@AmericanAcquiescence No, that wasn't what I was aiming for(pardon the pun) What I was trying to do was draw a parallel of the soldiers that fought both of those wars...each one went of to defend something that he believed in. There was an old saying during the Civil War 'Rich man's war, Poor man's fight'. Still holds true today!
@AmericanAcquiescence What blue grey dude is sayin is that The song is about a rebel, so thats were the cavalryman riding accorss the battlefield comes in that he was talkin about, The vietnam vet comes in becouse the song is talkin about how a man has a dream that will never change him but noone beleeaves in him and takes him wrong, Just like In vietnam when the soldier s came home and got spit on and all that other bullshit.
@lorileeslove Yeah, it does have a very Josey Wales-ish theme to it, doesn't it? Great movie and a great song - someone should make a video combining the two. I play this song everytime I mess with the jukebox in the bar.
"The Last Rebel" (the album/CD) is the best album released by the reformed band. It comes closest to capturing the original band's sound, spirit and style than any other album they've released. Great song...great album.
This will sound like a backhand compliment, but here it goes. Most old time Skynyrd fans have a problem accepting Johnny Van Zant ( we all know he is not what RONNIE was) but his work on this song and many others is GREAT!!!!!
everytime i hear skynyrd i get a tingle up my spine, and i dont think my furnace quit! skynyrd for life!

Many Texans still honor our history
my house still flies the southern banner over the Texas flag
and my girl is bi racial never cared
Race dont matter
its true time has changed us
Racism has faded in most modern day southerners
but our love of our ancestors will never leave us
we will never forget how our brave and noble ancestors stood and fought the yankee invaders till damn near the last man
few stood against many
the yankees conquered us but we took 300 thousand with us

Only Rock & Metal can deliver such great atmosphere (You wonder why I said metal? Listen to the song "Down in Desperation" by Thunderhead, I'm sure almost everyone who likes "The last rebel" will also like this song... Metal is more than Metallica & Slipknot, trust me!)
mibsteve 1 year ago 3
@mibsteve Yeah, it's almost insulting to metalheads to evan call Slipknot music!

AmericanAcquiescence 8 months ago
@AmericanAcquiescence No, that wasn't what I was aiming for(pardon the pun) What I was trying to do was draw a parallel of the soldiers that fought both of those wars...each one went of to defend something that he believed in. There was an old saying during the Civil War 'Rich man's war, Poor man's fight'. Still holds true today!
bluegreydude4 8 months ago 7
@AmericanAcquiescence What blue grey dude is sayin is that The song is about a rebel, so thats were the cavalryman riding accorss the battlefield comes in that he was talkin about, The vietnam vet comes in becouse the song is talkin about how a man has a dream that will never change him but noone beleeaves in him and takes him wrong, Just like In vietnam when the soldier s came home and got spit on and all that other bullshit.
bjrockstar4563 7 months ago
@AmericanAcquiescence What was the US doing in nam that was similer to the Union in the civil war?
I dont think theres anything in common between the two wars.
In nam the US was fighting to stop communism from spreading.
In the civil war they were fighting to stop the Confederates from leaveing the Union.
