I was defending Bioware, and thought Mass Effect and Dragon Age Origin were good games.... but then they did Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age 2 and they're now officially dead to me.
Walk two steps - Darkspawn! - Walk two more steps -Darkspawn! - Walk three more steps - Guess what, Darkspawn! - More darkspawn! This time, they have a mage! - Four steps - And Darkspawn again!
Honestly, that game had a few good parts, but most of it was extremely boring.
@RiseofBane It was nice while it lasted. Nothing lasts forever - that's especially true in case of technology companies. Zuckerberg summed it up nicely in one of his interviews when he said (and I'll paraphrase) that the bigger these companies get, the harder it is to keep them dynamic.
@RiseofBane It's also to be mentioned that it's not what the free market basic pattern is - you're supposed to be making commercially succesful games, not good games if you want to stay competetive. Whether one likes it or not matters little. At the beginning there was a group of guys who wanted to create great games and they did create them indeed. New development teams with fresh new ideas arise, the new becomes old and is ultimately forgotten, basic principles of the universe. :-)
@InsaneChef I had the same problem. I have the disks, except a crucial file couldn't load because of a scratch. So I, *ahem*, you know whated it from the internet. I considered it justified. I like Inquisitor and mage/thief.
I tried to remember your love Ellisime. I tried to recreate the memory, to spark it anew in my memory but it is gone; a hollow, dead thing.
For years I clung to the memory. Then the memory of the memory, then nothing. The Seldarine took that from me too. I look upon you and feel nothing; I remember nothing but you turning your back on me along with all the others.
Once my thirst for power was everything. Now I hunger only for revenge. And I, shall, have it!
@LoStH3R0 They all want to make RPG's that are are incredible in theory, but they don't want to take the time to develop a good storyline or deep involving characters.. they want lots of money.. and fast...
DA and DA2 are a bit more of a complex issue, so I won't say anything about them, but MA is just barely a *game* at all, much less a roleplaying game.
Fantastic music though, brings back memories. Thanks for posting!:)
OwnageINcBFinch: Thumb him down all you want, sadly it's the truth. RPGs like these will never be made again. Not that I'm saying their quality won't be matched, it's just that this particular of of RPG won't resurface for a long long time.
I agree with you, Ownage. I've been pretty disappointed with BioWare's product lineup ever since Throne of Bhaal. Maybe they raised the bar so high with the Baldur's Gate series that they simply weren't capable of topping it.
Neverwinter Nights, Jade Empire, Mass Effect... in my opinion there don't even come remotely close to the quality and replayability of Baldur's Gate. The series has aged so damn well, and is just as much fun to play today as it was when they first came out.
Forgive me, I'm exhausted, it's late... I meant to say since AFTER Throne of Bhaal. I thought ToB was excellent for an expansion pack and ended the series quite nicely.
As you say, BioWare is long dead. at least in my eyes.
ME and BG are Bioware's best franchises. Nothing will change that. Let's just hope BG3 comes out -.-

Dragon Age sucked. Or at least a lot of it did.

And the world felt like a theatre stage.

I prefer mages over anything else. I have actually ciompleted BG2 and BG2 TOB with only one character, a mage. And I'm not joking.

"Ahh. The child of Bhaal has awoken. It is time for more... experiments."
"Interesting, you have much untapped power."
"Do you even realise your potential."
"MORE. INTRUDERS. HAVE ENTERED THE COMPLEX. MASTER."
"They act sooner than we had anticipated. No matter, they will only prove a slight delay."
AHHHHHHHHH
"Wake up you."
"What, Imoen, what's goin on?"
"They messed with your head too huh?"
And people wonder why I won't play Dragon Age. Pffff.

Nothing will ever take it's place.... Nothing. Not DA, not ME/ME2, etc. BioWare is long-dead.

Bioware isnt dead, ME/ME2 or DA are and will be good games. But in one point you are right, nothing will ever take BGs place.

@LoStH3R0 Don't jinx it! I hope Bioware will stun us with another great game, even bigger than BG and IWD.
What are you referring to when you say ME/ME2 and DA?

@Schragmeister Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2. Dragon Age Oragins and Dragon Age 2
