  • Feldman was 45 when he composed this work, not 15!

  • @LispenardStudio Absolutely. Morton Feldman composed Rothko Chapel when he was 45. But he was 15 when he composed the hebraic melody played by the viola at the very end of the piece (heard on this excerpt).

  • @spcfsu1 thanks, interesting to know that, thanks for posting this to YouTube

  • you can feel the void in this piece the space below, around, above God, where there is nothing. Everything in our universe that frightens us and amazes us, listen to that dissonance in the lower register. Thanks for the upload

  • one of the few beauties i find in life these days.

  • view our art! our video was shown in the tate modern have a look its on our channel!

  • Ok! Merci beaucoup!

The Viola in my life, For Franz Kline...). Evitez de vous lancer d'emblée dans ses oeuvres "marathon", comme Triadic memories (1h30), Crippled Symmetry (1h30) ou le 2ème quatuor (5h)... :)

  • The Rothko Chapel in Houston is only a small part of this video. Most of the shots are from other museums. Not exactly an accurate name for this video. I would have thought the chapel itself would be enough for a concept piece, but the fact that they muddled it with other museum works of Rothko rather negates the concept for me.

  • @zanstones You're probably right.

Actually I called this video "Morton Feldman : The Rothko Chapel" because it's the end of a piece of music by Morton Feldman called "The Rothko Chapel"... :-)

  • Felman saw the bloody chapel and went with it.... Mark Rothko had already killed himself by then.... But shit happens.

  • @LewisSmith I've just listen to your "Rothko Chapel" on your Myspace. It's like an hesitant lullaby, I like it so much.

  • Wow!! Thank you. That's a nice way of saying it. I love the idea that it's yours. Enjoy and thank you.

  • Must go back and have a listen to my bullshit. Tis been a while. Thanks. I'm sure I'll like again.

  • I'm 35 going 36 and I have used this for my music. Life is beautiful..... I'm so glad you're all here.

  • Sorry... did I get this wrong?

I didn't think I could. This is Morton Feldman and Beautiful.... can I get it wrong???

  • just pure emotions he wanted to state and aim in all of his life

  • My French is so-so but it looks like the video info says Feldman was 15 when he composed the music. Wikipedia says he was 45 at the time.

  • You're right, jscnhei3. Morton Feldman composed "Rothko Chapel" at 45. But he had composed the hebraic melody played by the viola, at the very end of the piece, at 15.

  • Ah, OK, thanks. That makes sense.

  • Does it matter?

  • We played this score, arranged for the ensemble, at Erev/Laila Festival, in Trieste, November 2008. Rothko Chapel is a masterpiece.

  • Phew, talk about a disarmingly simple, yet haunting finale. Listening to this work in a museum hall, surrounded by Jasper Johns paintings, was such a lovely experience.

  • Ahhhh man. I wish I had that experience.

  • Keeping it rich. Keep Houston Rich.

  • One of the things on my "love to do" things, is visit this or any other Rothko room.

  • does anyone know where i can find this piece of music

  • yeh Rothko Chapel by Morton Feldman

  • part 5

  • Looking forward to seeing his show at the Tate in a few months. Gonna be my first trip to London, should be great.

  • bellissima musica la musica di feldman e belissime le opere di rothko

  • awesome! 5 stars, my fav.

  • Muy bello

  • A wild genius, a tragic hero, a beautiful human being, now acknowledged with an emotionally awsome song... a wonderful video.

  • wonderful music

    ... and great paintings !

  • Thanks for posting....I soooo gotta get there....
