  • Olga ushered in the era of the pixie. Today, China still tries to keep that image of the gymnast alive but many of the other countries are moving back in the direction of the older more mature gymnast. And it helps that people like Oksana Chusavitina, Beth Tweedle and more of the older girls are still competing.

  • Poor girl. Her life did not end well. She became an alcoholic and died in jail.

  • I know; very sad indeed:( I have never seen this video of her beam exercise. All the Soviets were so well prepared werent they? Every element is executed so perfectly. Todays gymnasts should watch and learn. Bring back compulsories:)

  • Ironic when one compares her to fellow Byelorussian Olga Korbut, who became a superstar. Can't help noticing that while they were both 17 in Munich, Tamara did seem to have a distinctly more "adult" look and demeanor--somewhat more typical of gymnasts in general back then, but it did have that unintended effect of making Olga stand out all the more, and for reasons other than her own undoubted talent.
