One thing I like about the 2000 version as opposed to this is that they do actually look quite poor after moving away, whereas in this version they do still look reasonably well off.
My grandparents lived directly opposite Oxenhope station on the KWVR ( was not featured in the film) and so I was brought up with the KWVR to this day when I visit yorkshire i have to take a trip to Oakworth just to see where it all happened.
@Gillyyorkie Occasionally they have 'Railway Children Weekends' where they re-enact scenes from it at Oakworth - the next one is at the start of May. I've heard that Jenny Agutter still visits from time to time!
I visited the Keighley railway and saw the places where they filmed the movie. It was an experience not to be forgotten. i saw the pannier tank as well, even though she didn't pull the trains i travelled on.
Now that its all over Radio 4 I am heartily sick of hearing it. I'm watching because I heard on Radio 4 that the smaller girl was older than Jenny Aguter. They are 18 and 20. I was surprised.
It was funny when Phyllis copied every word Bobby said. Phyllis is sweet. I love it when people pinch her cheeks and she gives them a soppy smile. She's so innocent! I like Jenny Agutta too. You know you can get this story on a tape, narrated by Jenny Agutta. She has such a soft, classy voice; I could just steal her voicebox and shove it down my own throat!
In the remake she said that she found it easy to identify with the ones playing the children, especially the one playing Peter as she felt he reminded her of her own son.
I heard recently. I think her voice is sort of normal now.
In 2004, I had a family holiday in a village in Cornwell were she happens to have a house. At one point I believe I was in the village shop at the same time as she although I did not notice, my sister did. And only because someone mentioned 'a film you did' whilst she at the till.
Cash converters is what they needed ;)

Bernard Cribbins plays the nice guy signalman/station master. You may remember him from the 5th season of Doctor Who.

Well, I'd have thought they could probably afford the milk! In fact, I'd have thought they'd have that in anyway!

Thank you Iron Giant
"Daddy My Daddy" always gets me blubbing at the end.
This film missing from UK schedules last couple of Xmases. And The Sound of Music.
Would you have guessed, the very first vinyl LP I bought was "mfp" Music for Pleasure soundtrack of "The Railway Children"?
Was it 75pence or 99pence. 1970s anyway.
All my friends were buying T-Rex and Sweet. How sad does that make me?
Many Thanks

Yeah - I actually have it on tape.
I think Phyllis is cute as well.

Actually, it's not Jenny Agutter on my tape - it's Jenny Quayle.
