Thank you , it's been very interested , I've never been in Australia , but I would like to know if it's easily common to face a fierce snake or it's just rare ? Thank you reply , sorry for my bad english , I love Australia !
@lesgrisout well im 16 in june and ive lived in south australia my whole life, so yes you will come across deadly snakes every now and then. ive killed a few snakes but only about 3 or so in my life. so you will come across them but not often at all, for instance i lifted up a few pieces of poly carbonate sheet the see through stuff you have in varenders and there was about a foot long brown snake and i found another with my mates in a creek. ive also stepped on one near a birdcage.
@lesgrisout when i was young but to be honest you almost only come across snakes if you go looking for them or go looking around in places where they would be. ive also got a young pet python, in fact i got it yesterday. snakes arnt somthing to worry about if thats why you havent come to australia yet. and if you see one just dont piss it off e.g leave it alone and you will be fine.
youre thinking of kevin budden who lost his life capturing the first COASTALTaipan Oxyuranus scutellatus and many people have died from them particularly in New guinea where it is a common species.
There has been no deaths from the INLAND Taipan featured in this video, which is also more toxic than the coastal
PS - No one has EVER been killed by a Western Taipan, and thus far ONLY HERPETOLOGISTS have been bitten.
Coastal Taipans are also very intelligent (for a snake anyway). When keeping them they learn your routines and react accordingly. Not for the feint of heart!
This is because of the below mentioned points, and because Coastals have such a huge venom yield, so although, this snake is not as venomous drop for drop as the western Taipan (or the eastern brown and many of the sea snakes),it will inject more lethal doses per bite! I watched a good mate die in my arms from a Coastal Tai. Was not pretty!
Just thought I would educate you all! Great you arent typical snake haters!
Rhamilton - The story you are thinking of is a sad one. But, that man was Kevin Budden who was bitten by a Coastal Taipan (O. scutellatus). O scutellatus is grows much large tha microlepidotus, has larger fangs, injects more venom per bite and is much more nervous and agressive. Any professional herps would much rather work with Western Tais than with Coastals.
Funny how people who have understanding of reptiles, think its OK to post incorrect info.. Still, to be expected on You tube I s'pose!
The snake in the above video is Oxyuranus microlepitdotus. This IS Drop for drop THE MOST VENOMOUS snake in the world, more toxic than any sea snake.
This snake is also known by laymen as Inland/Western Taipan, Small scaled snake, and the fierce snake! They are all one and the same. They are fairly docile (most of the time) in both captivity and the wild.
The most dangerous snakes in the world based on toxicity and probability of death are sea snakes. Though they are shy as the Fierce snake, sea snakes can kills twice as many rats and humans with there complicated venom components.
The Taipan isn't the most venomous but it is very aggressive and has massive fangs and huge venom ducts. The most venomous snake in the world is the Australian fierce snake.
@hamiltonrrw That was my concern when the guy in the video talking the snake out with bare hand. I was like " what? He should of wearing special glove and blouse or something like that". Now my worry happened! +_+
I am loving these Greek subtitles.

@hamiltonrrw No probs. Just a couple more things, PNG is a subspecies of Coastal.
Genus: Oxyuranus
Species: Scutellatus
Subspecies Canni
And there is another species O. temporalis Central Ranges Taipan.
