and I thought seeing a purple and a black fire truck was the wierdest thing, but you have the cake with a shark truck, I tip my hat to you. well done. great paint scheme.
@outdoors360 The Shark Truck isn't really an "in action" kind of rig. it is used for show... they send it to public displays and use it for parades... it doesn't go to fires, it doesn't run Code 3.
What would go on a call? Are you referring to the discussion I was having about the Shark Engine. The Shark Engine long ago stopped being an actual fire engine... Pumps and tanks are gone, there is no plumbing, no water intake or outlets... When it was converted to what it is today all the functional fire equipment was pulled out.
The area where the tank was and the hose bed has been converted into a seating area for parade use. It's just a PR unit, no emergency capability at all.
@KarToyz Yes, typically the Station numbers and the equipment numbers match. At the time this video was made Truck 2 had just moved into Station 34 temporarily, as they were tearing down the old Station 2 and building a new Station 2 in it's place. The intention of the department was to move Truck 2 back to Station 2 when it is rebuilt... which will be any day now.
@colchesterfd328 The Shark rig is an old San Jose fire engine that has been retired and now lives at Station 30, which is near the HP arena, where the San Jose Sharks Hockey team plays. Essentially it is now a parade and PR truck, it has no fire fighting capability these days. The Chief rides it during city parades, and it makes more appearances during hockey season. Engine 30, which has the first due responsibility for the Arena, where the large plastic fins, but it is red and white.
@MrJakemoffitt yea but air and light units elimniate the need to have that stuff on the other trucks which means more room for storage or other equipment
@jeffgordon524 there not wire to charge them smarts there exaust lines for when they start the truck and wait for a crew to get bunkers on they dont want the exause fumes in the firehouse and bte the wires charge the batterys thats it and the baterys charge everything on the truck
Those are exhaust vents which attach to the side of the truck magnetically and the hose hangs over the truck's exhaust pipe. When the truck starts up it sends an electronic signal like a garage door opener and an exhaust fan starts up, sucking the truck's exhaust fans into the hose and venting it out to the outside air.
They slide on runners so the truck drags it along as it drives through the station, when they get to the end, the hose disconnects. Keeps fumes out of the station.
@ZBeeb Oh. i had a feeling that's what it was. it looked like it was attached to the fuel door. or is that an SCBA bottle compartment!? i cant tell. lol
If you pause it at 0:10 you can see the attachment point on the compartment door in front of the wheel well SCBA door. The round black thing with the silver center... you will notice one in about the same spot on the Light Unit too. They are actually Electro magnets on the hose, that will only attack to these round disks on the truck.
@ZBeeb Oh i see it now. wow. it probably sucks having to hook it all up every time u get done with a run. u have the power cord to plug in and the exhaust pipe to put on
wow. nice rigs. that shark engine is pretty wild looking. I really like it. I was wondering if it was a front line piece, but then read youre post at the bottom. imagine if it was though, how cool would that be. what you should do is put seats in the hose bed area and give firetruck rides. its a money maker.
You should just put SJS Fire Truck 2 Responding, because each truck followed by a light unit or rescue medic makes one whole truck company, but in 2 rigs.
Well that would be "SJS Truck Company 2 responding:... Truck 2 is the Truck, Light Unit 2 is the Light Unit, the two together are a "Truck Company".
Ultimately if I use both the words "Ladder Truck" and "Light Unit" it matches more searches and more people see it that way. You are right, it is a Truck Company and it would be correct to say "Truck Company 2 Responding"
it's a parade truck made with a retired Mack Pumper. The pump and most everything else has been stripped and the unit has been rebuild for this task.
It gets rolled out for promotional work, such as this Open House, or for Parades and other events. Also of course for San Jose Sharks Hockey events and games (thus the theme).
Station 30, on Auzerais, houses Engine 30, as well as the parade Sharks engine. Engine 30 is a red, Spartan Hi-Tech fire engine. It also has a dorsal fin on top.
