The original band members were John Cipollina (guitar), Gary Duncan (guitar, vocals), David Freiberg (bass guitar, vocals and viola), Greg Elmore (drums), and Jim Murray (vocals, guitar and harmonica), though Murray left before the band recorded. Valenti, the singer on this cut and "Fresh Air," came later

Bring your children HOME. Defend our United States Borders. State National Guard, State Militia. State Commander and Chief, Governors by the Supreme Law of the Land. Until a Declaration of War by CONGRESS. Hemp is Nature. Hemp is Paper. Hemp is Rope. Hemp is Wood. Hemp is Medicine. Hemp is Laughter. Hemp is Illegal.
Earthlings have but TWO Options. Option 1: Defend Universal Unalienable Individual Laws. Option 2: Take or Give AWAY Universal Unalienable Laws Life, Liberty, Property and the Pursuit of HAPPINESS. Decide your CHOICE, and Live or Die; with or without, TRUTH?
True Hippies Defend Individual Freedom Against BANK SLAVERY within the Borders of the United States of America against;
IRS, Federal Reserve Bank, IMF, World Bank, Bank of International Settlements stockholders. We knew something was Evil 40 years ago. Now, We know the Private Stockholders!
The hippies were right 40 years ago, while I was a jungle grunt in the VN. Unfortunately, most old hippies have forgotten their old beliefs (did they burn their draft cards out of true convictions or cowardice? And why do so many of them support the current wars [ including the war on sanity?])
Songs like this reinforce the beliefs of the true hippies, and they help the rest of us see that they were right - then and now.
Anyone who would trade John Cipollina for anyone less than Jesus is a fool and getting screwed in that deal. Dino was the ruin of QMS, hell Gary could sing as good as him when he had to.
@jltardiff Gary was an excellent singer. Powerful and raw. But nobody could sing like Dino. He could sing Gary's style but he had his own style, and nobody - nobody could sing like Dino.
this is truely an important song...it has more meaning today than it ever has. i say...let's rise up and give it to them while we still can....vote these fuckers OUT!!!!
Please...as a generation we had promise but we sold out practically before we even got started, For pity sake there is a "War on Drugs" and we now werehouse our youth in prisons.
The rebel had kids, got a regular job, and embraced comfort instead of ripping the world a new rectum. The only thing we will get up in arms about again is SS payments getting cut or health care issues. We did have a shining moment to treasure though, said the old fart with a gleam in his saggy, baggy eye :)
Dino wasn't in the 60's QMS which was Classic SF sound. He came after with his sound which was his not classic SF, which they were before him. Happy Trails is Classic SF 60's sound. No Dino in that Great 60's SF Band.
@6749er Not true, he was an original member of the band, but he was in jail when they recorded their first couple albums. Hence a song called "Dino's Song" on the first LP.
@publicanimal@publicanimal I'm working with facts. He was out of jail when he did his solo LP the same year QMS did their first and the music for Happy Trails which was 68. Dino was part of them getting toghther but he never played one note w/ them as a band before he got busted. Duncan brought him when he came back. I have quotes from band members that blow the Dino was a member they were waiting for myth away. because they are working with facts not myths
"He actually lived with us when he got out of prison, and while we played some music together and wrote songs, he had no interest in playing in Quicksilver; he wanted to start his own career. Well, when his own career didnt do so well, he had more interest in playing in Quicksilver!.
Ducan split for a year before Happy Trails came out. When he came back he brought Dino with him. The others guys wanted Gary back so they took Dino too.
:"I didnt really want Dino in the band, but I wanted Duncan in the band. And the ONLY way to get Duncan in the band, was to take Dino too."
Hey Pub I was Bay Area kid at the time. I saw Dino solo in 1968 after he got out of prison the same year I saw a whole lot of one of the greatest bands I ever saw the classic 4 man Quicksilver Messenger Service. Hence, who not true? .

Saw a list of worst trades in SF team history. There has been some bad ones like Orlando Cepeda for Ray Sadeki
but #1 on the list was Quicksilver Messenger Service trading
John Cipollina, David Friberg &, Nicky Hopkins for Dino Valente,
I agree!
