The same people tell you we're in Afghanistan to help the woman against the backwards taliban and then, they do something that makes you think they have the same views towards women.
Flawed arbitration's cheaper, less 'broken'/manipulated than court. Consider overseas US crime logistics, govt-contract/taxpayers as court-award, h/kbr's reputation. Why did a gorgeous nubile blonde 20 year old seek work with THEM, THERE, THEN? Hi pay, fast tuition, adventure, job prestige, perks/promises? Recruiting officers prep 'serve my country' inductees more! Hand-over-fist money and flashpoint poli-socio-economic tension wasn't covered by h/kbr, neither should it be. Bad all around!
Not to sound callous toward victims, but how is it a contractor's fault that a woman gets raped? We're talking about a war zone, after all. What the hell is she doing there in the first place?
Also, if the contractor provides "special treatment" to the woman for the purpose of protecting her from rape, then can the contractor get sued for treating her unequally?
How interesting! Contracts now override criminal law. Or does count only when Halliburton/KBR does it? Perhaps aforesaid criminal organization deems itself above the law. Or maybe it is the law.
Normally, yes. But if you are raped overseas, there is n way to pursue this. That is the issue. She was raped while supporting the Iraq war in her job with KBR. The U.S. has no jurisdiction and those men went scot free according to U.S. law. Her employer had been petitioned on numerous occasions about the lack of security and safety that the women felt regarding male coworkers. Nothing was done.
When she reported the rape,a rape kit was collected. KBR security then locked her in a room for a day with two armed guards outside. She was not allowed to call anyone, not even her parents. The rape kit was subsequently "lost". Ms. Jones required reconstructive surgery on her breasts and genitals. She was told that a job with KBR (Stateside or otherwise) was not guaranteed if she went to the U.S. to recover.
So, 1. KBR ignored the safety concerns voiced by females regarding male co-workers. 2. They locked the VICTIM in a trailer for a day. 3. They "lost" the rape kit. 4. They threatened her with losing her job. Sadly, she has no recourse to criminal justice as this took place overseas. Still think KBR shouldn't be held responsible for their part in this horrible crime? Why we should support Halliburton KBR with millions of tax dollars to, ostensibly, protect Americans. Ms. Jones is an American, too
The contract doesn't prevent criminal prosecution. And how, exactly, can an employer create a condition which causes rape to happen?
Some people have within them a proclivity to commit great acts of evil. They don't need special conditions.
The thing to remember is that no Bill is written which covers only one area of law. The devil is probably in the details of the Bill. Not the fluff we're hearing about now.
The 30 who voted against it are the ONLY 30 who actually read it.
Not which CAUSES rape to happen. But which does not adequately protect its employees living in another country. It was voted on by both Democrats and Republicans. All Republican women voted for it and a few Republican men. People like Vitter voted against it. I don't consider him one of the great readers in the Senate.
There is NO CONTRACT that can ever supercede basic human rights!!! This would NEVER hold up in a Supreme Court trial. Corporations WILL ALWAYS be responsible for their employees in a work environment.
Don't invade Pakistan....INVADE HALIBURTON!!!
And I'd expect nothing less from senators from SC. Their track record speaks for itself.
Is Jamie Leigh Jones the same person in the new Vitter Youtube video? Is there a cause or organization that I can lend some support to? I dont follow politics at all, and was BLOWN AWAY with his lack of concern in the video. How can I lend a hand to do something?
They are, they are out of their minds, Alison. They live in their pockets, I think. I'm not surprised to see Cornyn on this list. I am surprised to see Kay Bailey Hutchinson is *not* on the list but she's surprised me with *one* reply letter to the many I've sent her on various issues. I'm not impressed with her either. Sickening. Very appropriate outrage in this video. Thank you.
So full of shit. Absolutely pathetic. It has been proven - there was no rape. It was all a liberal fantasy to attack the Bush administration.

Protip : don't put yourself in this situation.
Is it moral? No.
Is it legal? Yes.
If you are naive you will get fucked up in a million different ways no matter where you are.

What situation would that be? Working overseas for a U.S. company? So it is the victim's fault?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
If you are raped the thing to do is purse criminal charges not sue your boss.
This issue is much bigger than sexual assault.
