Out of nothingness things just exploded into existence and nobody knows a cause. In science there is cause and effect and the theories for the big bang range from a star exploding/imploding into existence and then starting to form matter to two parallel universes colliding and the resulting collision spawning all matter. We can't go back in time and watch it happen. The best we can do is form alternate theories. As our understanding grows we can look for things that may fit but we'll always be lacking in that area. Same goes for a lot of other highly respectable theories.

There are snags you'll hit though like trying to prove gods or ghosts, but as intellectuals I think its better to at least be open to other ideas, not necessarily believe in all things but just understanding on some level.
