  • I sprouted wood when he said, "pocket spectroscope". Where could I find one? :D

  • Comment removed

  • no xenon tube? Helium?

  • What is the name of the person who is introducing those light tubes? I mean, the person who also took us to a trip to Ytterby?

  • @sms6895 Pete License

  • This guy is the epitomy of mad scientist!! lol

  • urm question: what can you use frozen neon for? what are the economic values and what are the effects of neon and the environment? please i need to know these things my scientiffic knowledge is completely lost, i need the information for a assignment, please answer as soon as possible

    thank you :)

  • Aww, his big ole smile from his experiment just vanishes when he says "it's not really very important in terms of absolute chemistry." bummer.

  • Would you walk into a place that says "pocket sized spectroscopes"?

  • poket spectro? very handy indeed

  • What compound of neon did you synthesized.

  • 0:26 win afro

  • His afro helps him science stuff while he is out sciencing with his scientific powers! :D

  • @Strideo1 Perfect scientist hair!

  • ok. i dont think that is going to help me with my scince test.

  • cool

  • Neon is just awesome. noble gases are just awesome.

i believe the electron configuration is [He]2s2 2p6. (i'm using the noble gas configuration)

  • couldn't you just say [Ne], lol. Either is correct, but that's a little easier.

  • I named my account after the noble gases because they're awesome.

  • Neon ... molecules?

While watching all these videos, I saw at several occasions, how these assistents, and even the professor, don't seem to know some basic facts about few elements. Weird, huh?

  • It's not that they don't know, they just misspoke.

  • Neon is my absolute favorite element.

    No idea why. xP

  • discos?

  • "pizza" lol

  • that's the smallest Spectra scope I've ever seen! Do you guys have a pocket Geiger counter?

  • Could one make a lamp using other noble gases such as Radon and Helium?

  • you can with Helium, however I think Radon discharges outside of the visible spectrum. Not sure though

  • helium: yes. There are actually some discharge tubes with helium in it.

Radon: probably. Unfortunately it´s radioactive and will be completely gone within a few weeks.

  • helium has a sort of peach color, or so I've heard.

  • I have seen images of lamps with Argon, Helium, Neon and Krypton. I'm not sure about Radon (maybe even Ununoctium lamps could be made if it wasn't so radioactive).

  • yes, most "fluorescent" lamps commonly used in home and office lighting use a tube filled with argon gas and sodium/mercury electrodes. These are coated with a phosphor to convert the UV emitted into white visible light.

  • well said, but no sodium. only mercury in fluorescent lamps.

  • only mercury would not make a solid electrode, and the contacts wouldn't remain in place if you decided to hang the light in a lamp or upside-down from the ceiling (or horizontal, like "traditional" fluorescents as opposed to CFL). I am unsure about the sodium, but the mercury is amalgamated with something, and sodium is a cheap, available metal.

  • Dude, there is no sodium. The filaments are tungsten coated with thorium dioxide for better thermoionic effect. The tube contains pure mercury vapor.

  • what a fro

  • fish and chips<------ what a stereotype for english people

    and true too o.O

  • And interesting chemistry

  • Coolest hair ever!

  • pizza or whatever. xD thats the best line evah.

  • Is that a wig?

  • nope :D its pure scientist

  • "Neon molecules"...um Neon is a noble gas and is monoatomic, not diatomic. Ne2 does not exist.

  • Sthings wrong he shouldn't say that molecules of neon is excited instead "atoms" because neon is not diatomic or bonded. (not saying the professor but the other guy)

  • please do thank whoever translated this one to portuguese! my little brother of 11 really digs chemistry but he can't understand a word in english. so when i clicked the caption button i became his hero hehe ... really good video, thanks!

  • Our Portuguese captions are done by Prof. Dr. Luís Brudna... if you visit our playlists section, you'll see all the videos which Professor Brudna has translated for us all compiled in one place!

  • tell your Dr. dude his afro is epic!

  • lol pizza or whatever

  • I would NEVER walk in to a place with a sign that says "Pizza or whatever".

  • i was just about to say that :D

  • I would--just to see what the "whatever" is. :D

  • @Portablet2

    wwwhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyy NOT?

  • Neon - my favourite element! Yay!

  • I LOVE THAT GUYS AFRO!!

  • +1, its hawt

  • +1, i agree with oxygenownz

  • +1 too all above... pizza or watever :D

  • @Chowderowens It's not an afro, it's a mad scientist afro :)

  • @Chowderowens its a jewfro

  • "You might see fish and chips, or perhaps a disco."

    :D

  • I'd love to hear or see more about that pocket spectroscope.

  • i would like a pocket spectra scope. neat .

  • Can we see some liquid or solid neon :)
