It is interesting how the mind will attach itself to a number of things when a disturbing even happens. It is a means of helping to remember (and thus learn during a period of stress, a survival mechanism) by associating the event to other things significant or memorable. You also associate the immediate environment around you when the event happens. Everyone my age remembers exactly what they were doing when they heard Kennedy was assassinated, or John Lennon, etc.
