Probably the only performance on Soul Train between 1971-1977 that was real and not lip synched. Before SNL, white kids like me watched Soul Train and loved every minute of it. Great entertainment, I don't care what color you are.
If you hate on James Brown you hate on Elvis Presley. Or do you really believe that Elvis made his style up by himself? Let's stop the ignorance. There would be no Rock N Roll if not for the blues and soul music created by Black Americans that were CREATED during slavery in the USA.k Research history and thank whatever God you believe in for Black people, because without us, half of the music you love, INCLUDING COUNTRY, would not exist.
@TheM2tha3RD What have you accomplished that I should thank 'god' for ALL black people.I'm thankful for the talented people (of all races) that created the beautiful music we can enjoy today, but I refuse to say "Thank God for Black people because they invented music" Also, "half of the music you love"? Thats somewhat arbitrary. If you demand anyone be thankful of anything, it should not be of a race as a whole, but for the individuals who defined and invented genres that brought us all together
I think MUSICALLY this period is greater than '69 to '73, although I'm still waiting for that ONE show filmed live in concert from the earlier time. Alot screaming on the SOUL POWER DVD but I find JB was greatly toned down by 1974-75.
Between 1959-1975, I really can't say were his greatest years musically, because each year offered something great, and the style of music from '59 obviously bears no relation whatever to his music of '75!
Big Don C! Rest In Peace, brother! But DIS HEAH has to be one of the ALL TIME ABSOLUTE GREATEST SOUL TRAIN SEGMENTS EVER! I believe I saw it too! Thanks for taking me down memory lane, Mr. Dyson... Master DJ of RELEVANT SOUL & FUNK!! Sho u right!
Man, the part after the break in Payback, at about 3:55 when that super-heavy funk guitar comes in, and the way they build it up.......... I would've gone totally out of my mind, when I was there.
The Godfather of Soul? Oh yea, easy to see & hear why. No profanity? Not even the "B" word. Wow. Back when we sang about loving women instead of songs about misusing & abusing them. REAL talent on display. Long live James Brown.! !
Damn, his band was tight !! Remember reading in an issue of Rolling Stone with various band members how James would just relentlessly make them practice, day after day. Hey Mr. Brown, it paid off.....
I would gladly trade all the creature comforts of the modern era to have been alive during the peak of soul music, especially seeing James Brown live in concert. No artist today even comes close to touching J.B. musically or in showmanship.
DAMN this dude did 10 minute SET!! LOL- i thought there'd be an interview in here somewhere! lmao - this HAS to be the longest Soul train set ever! Only James Brown!! :-D
There was a Time, He sing, You can bet your bottom dollar youll never me hollar ill do the best that I can do, and you can bet, you aint seen nothin yet until you seen me do The JAMES BROWN. Like a dull knife Jack, it just aint cuttin you talkin loud and saying nothin. Get on the good foot, give it up or turn it loose for the hardest working man in show biz Mr JB. WBOY Rick.
Love it! It would be even better if you could upload it in the right aspect ratio ;-) I guess these recordings were 4:3 and not 16:9 That's why verything looks so stretched ou. It's a shame because the recordings are great! Thanks for sharing!!
So, was looking for a recorded version of the live version of Cold Sweat. Nothing comes close. just proves these guys are absolutely stunning musicians :)
wonder why the bank was so great? James used to charge them niggas 50 dollars each time they messed up. I can see James sayin "uhpp thats 50 dollas" haha
damn.. they're in there partying.. no ones worried about who stepped on my shoes, who has the biggest ass, who's carryin a gun..their just in there having a good time.
damn.. they in thier partying.. no ones worried about who stepped on my shoes, who has the biggest ass, who carryin a gun..their just in there having a good time.
During this period Mr. Brown liked to change entire parts of his songs in concert. He even changewd the classic horn riff from 'Cold Sweat' from 'do doDOO do doDOO' to 'do doDOO dododododododo', which later became the riff for 'Get Up Offa That Thing' in 1976. Fantastic all around performance here.

Anyhow, somehow I don't see him and Stevie being bosom buddies!
@IkeDyson71 Rick was hot in the USA for about the same years . 1978 - 1983 . Those years were I guess when he was at his peak . But he is still known to quite a few people and was known by Some even after those years .
@IkeDyson71 Yes I agree. Rick had his time but he was done by the mid 80's as Prince took over. He will even admit that he took what Parliament-Funkadelic did and made it more appealing to the masses. Now he and James were friends. He even shared the stage with him and Bootsy when James was let out of prison. There is also a photo of Rick, Rick's mother and James at a show. He says JB was strong influence to him. Sadly I went to Rick's funeral in Buffalo. Tragic.
Yes, and only age 53. Look at Amy Winehouse, just 27, and threw her life away for the sake of getting high. I saw that one coming a mile away, though.
