  • Probably the only performance on Soul Train between 1971-1977 that was real and not lip synched. Before SNL, white kids like me watched Soul Train and loved every minute of it. Great entertainment, I don't care what color you are.

  • Awesome and in sync no less! Love this!

  • Tried try a nip bag? Gone got a forty bag?????

  • this music is absolutely flawless

  • If you hate on James Brown you hate on Elvis Presley. Or do you really believe that Elvis made his style up by himself? Let's stop the ignorance. There would be no Rock N Roll if not for the blues and soul music created by Black Americans that were CREATED during slavery in the USA.k Research history and thank whatever God you believe in for Black people, because without us, half of the music you love, INCLUDING COUNTRY, would not exist.

  • @TheM2tha3RD

I agree - but who exactly were you addressing your comments to? Everybody?

  • @TheM2tha3RD What have you accomplished that I should thank 'god' for ALL black people.I'm thankful for the talented people (of all races) that created the beautiful music we can enjoy today, but I refuse to say "Thank God for Black people because they invented music" Also, "half of the music you love"? Thats somewhat arbitrary. If you demand anyone be thankful of anything, it should not be of a race as a whole, but for the individuals who defined and invented genres that brought us all together

  • @TheM2tha3RD right on!

  • @TheM2tha3RD AMEN brother! and btw, i'm white, but a "black" music musician... funk, blues, soul & hiphop

  • Freeze frame at 01:33 and just say damn!

  • @Buckeyecat2002

Take your eyes off her booty...!

  • @IkeDyson71 -James' dancers were once banned for being too nasty, way back in the day. He always kept some booty shaking sistas behind him on stage.

  • @Buckeyecat2002

Ann Norman was the HOTTEST! Her legs look like they went all the way to ecstasy!

  • @IkeDyson71 who's ann norman?

  • 8 people need to funk off

  • I think MUSICALLY this period is greater than '69 to '73, although I'm still waiting for that ONE show filmed live in concert from the earlier time. Alot screaming on the SOUL POWER DVD but I find JB was greatly toned down by 1974-75.

  • @ensconse

Between 1959-1975, I really can't say were his greatest years musically, because each year offered something great, and the style of music from '59 obviously bears no relation whatever to his music of '75!

  • Were neighbors in St. Albans, NY. Sorry about that fence being torn down, Mr. Brown.

  • some of that hair is big enough to have its own zip code

  • Wow! the Soul Train Dancers are having big fun!

  • @IkeDyson71 aaaaw yeh GET DOWN !!

  • @Gminor7 Isn't Gminor7th the key that "Papa Don't Take No Mess" is in?

  • Look-a here!

  • Why is James band all dressed in 60 year old house wife dresses ?

  • Man, the part after the break in Payback, at about 3:55 when that super-heavy funk guitar comes in, and the way they build it up.......... I would've gone totally out of my mind, when I was there.

  • @andzwe Thats is the bit. My brain would have exploded/imploded or some strange space 9th dimension stuff going on

  • the soooooooooooooooooouuullll train R.I.P

  • sex machine!

  • search bolder gazet van antwerpen

  • The Godfather of Soul? Oh yea, easy to see & hear why. No profanity? Not even the "B" word. Wow. Back when we sang about loving women instead of songs about misusing & abusing them. REAL talent on display. Long live James Brown.! !

  • @StevieB1362 well said !

  • @StevieB1362 -Please don't forget the great James Browns shortcomings: Wife/woman beater, deadbeat father of 20 kids, prison time for dug abuse.

  • @Buckeyecat2002 20 kids!!!??? Wow! He broke B.B. King's record.

  • Mr.Brown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic - This is like a live concert! This is not a track date. They are actually playing!

  • Woooooooa - Powerful grooves!

  • If I could put myself in a time machine, I would be there, in all yellow, with my big, wild hair, jammin' hardcore!!!

  • There's a book written by his trombonist who wrote and arranged those tight horns. The book is called "Hit Me"

  • @iflambeaux Fred Westly is the author's name

  • whoa! That was an F5 JB hits on Payback.

  • Beautiful Queen Lynn Collins the Female Preacher riding shotgun, Lord have mercy....Soul Heaven jammin'!

  • Damn, his band was tight !! Remember reading in an issue of Rolling Stone with various band members how James would just relentlessly make them practice, day after day. Hey Mr. Brown, it paid off.....

  • For a performer, his shows are my university!

  • man how does james brown hit them high notes i just dont understand lol

  • l saw him in person, in concert and he was magnificent!!!!

  • I would gladly trade all the creature comforts of the modern era to have been alive during the peak of soul music, especially seeing James Brown live in concert. No artist today even comes close to touching J.B. musically or in showmanship.

  • pure chi-town steppin James let'em have it the quality of the sound is bananas

  • Excellentissssimo.

  • STILL SOUL BROTHER NUMBER ONE. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER JAMES BROWN OR ANYONE CLOSE.

  • A gem of a video right here!!

  • Okay, people, don't jump all over me, but is this live, or what? Impressive.

  • OMG just wait a minute...I'am i the only one noticing that this dude is using 2 Drummers? I've can't remember ever seeing any band use two drum sets.

  • @Tampa0123456789

    Doobie Brothers, Genesis... for instance.

The James Brown dual drummer thing is common knowledge.

  • Is very nice

  • DIS IS SERIOUSLY REAL MUSIC DIS MAN HAD TO HAVE THE BEST BAND OF ALL TIME THE HORNS N DRUMS R SERIOUS!!! GIVE ME CHILLS

  • I, the FunkyRedHeadedWhiteBoyFromBallard, had been watching and listening to James Brown for 10 years when this was made.

Tower Of Power was my favorite band, albeit a direct descendent of JB.

All my classmates were rockin' out and I was Soul Struck to the BONE.

    Still am. To this day.

Glad to see TOP is still with it!

As JB said, "...whatsoever it is, Bobby, it GOTS TO BE --- FUNKY!"

  • pulled off a sweat each time!

  • And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is what THE ONE sounds like :)

  • wonder why the bank was so great? James used to charge them niggas 50 dollars each time they messed up. I can see James sayin "uhpp thats 50 dollas" haha

  • Whenever Don Cornelius had James Brown on Soul Train, he would let James take over the entire show because he wouldn't need any other guest!

  • @kalimaganeshshivan Who could upstage James at that time? Brown was #1 for 16 years straight.....1958 to 1974 incrediblely unreal!

  • THAT BAND DIDNT MISS A BEAT AND THIS IS LIVE OR TAPED TV GO BROWN R.I.P.

    YHIS VIDEO IS SMOKIN''

  • so funkay it hurts....

  • Get On Down! Wooooooooo!

  • なんじゃー、これは!!

  • Tremendous.

Particularly the live version of Damn Right I'm Somebody.

  • During this period Mr. Brown liked to change entire parts of his songs in concert. He even changewd the classic horn riff from 'Cold Sweat' from 'do doDOO do doDOO' to 'do doDOO dododododododo', which later became the riff for 'Get Up Offa That Thing' in 1976. Fantastic all around performance here.

  • Goodness Gracious. That was beautiful.

  • I like James Brown music..is super good..cool video and super song..

  • @IkeDyson71 Dude I 'just' sent U a friends request and subbed U this morning. For some reason, I thought I had already done this. LOL! Anyway, better late than never

    I'm done! I'm gone!

    Bye!

  • @IkeDyson71 Hey bro , do you know if James Brown and Stevie Wonder were friends Or if they have ever met ? Those are my 2 favorite singers . Along with Rick James . It would be cool to see a clip of JB and Stevie in it together .

  • @OneWay789

I don't believe you will ever find a clip of James Brown and Stevie Wonder together. I've never heard of one.

As to them being friends, I don't think so. I used to buy ALL od Stevie's albums, and all of JB's. I know their histories very well. I don't believe they were very much acquainted with each other.

I like a fair bit of Rick James' stuff, but mainly his productions of the girls in his "fold" - Teena Marie (RIP), and Mary Jane Girls.

  • @IkeDyson71 Oh I see . Yeah JB and Stevie are my two favorite . Do you think Rick James and Stevie Wonder have ever met ?

  • @OneWay789

Not that I know of. How long did Rick James really last in the USA as a real powerful force in music? I only ever had one Rick James album - the one where he's wearing those damn freaky looking red boots "Street Songs"!

Here in the UK, he was real hot for about five years - 1978-1983. After that - nada!

Shame the way he passed away on all that coke!

I liked that song he did Teena on "Just A Sucker For Your Love".

Anyhow, somehow I don't see him and Stevie being bosom buddies!

  • @IkeDyson71 Rick was hot in the USA for about the same years . 1978 - 1983 . Those years were I guess when he was at his peak . But he is still known to quite a few people and was known by Some even after those years .

  • @IkeDyson71 Yes I agree. Rick had his time but he was done by the mid 80's as Prince took over. He will even admit that he took what Parliament-Funkadelic did and made it more appealing to the masses. Now he and James were friends. He even shared the stage with him and Bootsy when James was let out of prison. There is also a photo of Rick, Rick's mother and James at a show. He says JB was strong influence to him. Sadly I went to Rick's funeral in Buffalo. Tragic.

  • @Lar112

Yes, and only age 53. Look at Amy Winehouse, just 27, and threw her life away for the sake of getting high. I saw that one coming a mile away, though.

As for my musical heroes, there's only Stevie and Aretha still with us. Isaac Hayes, Barry White, Luther, James, Lyn Collins, Wilson Pickett, Johnny Guitar Watson - all gone.

  • @OneWay789

I don't know if they were friends, but James did mention Stevie, and Ray Charles in his song Take A look At Those Cakes.

  • @SlickFunker Oh really ! So I wonder if James Brown and Stevie Wonder met each other though . Or Rick James and Stevie Wonder .

  • @OneWay789

I don't know if either of the guys met, though, at a guess, I'd imagine they're paths probably crossed once or twice over the years.

In James Take a Look At Those Cakes track he asks if Stevie, and Ray Charles have seen those cakes ( a womans backside).

I would think they must have been friendly enough for James to say that.

  • @SlickFunker Yea that 's a good point and I do agree . Must have been amazing to see James and Stevie standing side by side . 2 legends .

  • @IkeDyson71 thanks 4 it all brotha!!!

  • The new, new super heavy funk!!!

  • @ensconse

And who's the greatest James Brown uploader of all time?

Pay me homage, all you other James Brown uploaders. None can compare to Ike Dyson!

  • @IkeDyson71 fuckin tellin ye,killer uploads of the coolest brother ever.Listen to the bass on Payback, that is some naughty arse shit, appreciate it man.

  • @IkeDyson71 tha mothafucka!
