Maurerful. E46 M3 is inline 6 cyl with athletic characteristic ! 8000 rpm red line. 6 speed Close ratio SMG with minimal loss in between shifting gears. As you can see from the video off the line were is the most power torque of the low revs M120 they hold next to each other ones the M3 shift to 3 from that point on the M120 has no chance in the longer run because every time the SL has loss from tall gear and low rpm's The M3 will walk away form the 600SL after 80mph up.

Maurerful you have Wrong example E30 M3 is produced to 1991 last year made Evo 2.5 version. 600SL was introduced in the end of 1992 when E30 M3 was out of production ! Both cars are great !!! I own both R129 and E30 M3 with S38-B36 engine swap. M120 Engine is very relaxed engine and the design is made the power delivery to be at low rpm and having max of 6000rpm rev limited. Means low revs engine that is why everybody thinks he is not pushing the car.

About 14.3 I think. The SL500 does 14.6 105 mph. The newer ones are faster. The thing about SL's, 90-02 anyway, is they werent optimized for 1/4 mile. They are optimized to reach 150 -160mph. It doesnt even switch to 4th till 117mph. Several cars can be faster off the line because these cars weigh over 2 tons and about the same as a heavy version 3/4 ton truck. The V8 in a typical 2000-3000# sports car would make a very wicked fast car.
