The point is not that France decided not to ban them, it's that they physically couldn't with the current system of laws in place. I'm sure every judge in that courtroom wanted to see the evil cult condemned to the bowels of hell, however due to French law stating that an organization convicted of fraud cannot be disbanded (which has merit in some specific cases), their hands were tied. Therefore, I do hope they investigate further and find something they can really incriminate the Co$ with.

I can see your point, but I believe if they were banned it would have been made worldwide news (like the fraud case), resulting in a public scare. If it forced them to go underground it would probably mean they would be more likely to vanish since it would be A LOT harder to recruit more members and laundering their money.

The French government is not listening. They didn't ban $cientology out of fear they would just go underground. With Co$ still legitimate in France, they are still highly visible, and open to more charges being filed against them.

Their hope is to route the religion, not force it underground. Unlike us here in the US, they actually know what they are doing over there.

They were given suspended sentences, so they don't actually have to serve any time. But in an interview after the trial, one of the judges said that the court would not be so lenient next time.

The court must apply the law. The law did not allow Scientology to be banned. It is the law that must change.
