  • I had this problem after getting my Rebel t2i wet (caught in the rain) - I was relieved to figure out that it worked with other lenses. - with the one lens though (the error one) it only displays the error sometimes...any idea what's up with that? There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to when it works and when it doesn't. Any ideas?

  • My 18-55 lenz has suddenly stopped focussing on auto mode.It works once in 10-15 attempts. What could be wrong. Help!

  • Same problem. Autofocus doesn't work and 17mm to just past 24mm returns error 01. Had this lens without issue for around three years, very annoying!

  • Encountered the exact same reason with my 17-85mm. Athough now the aperture is stuck in an almost closed position (f/22 probably) So not a whole lot of light gets into the camera, and AF doesn't work, since the camera needs at least f/5.6 to autofocus. It was under warranty though, so it's in for a repair now. A shame I didn't get the 15-85mm from the start. much better quality.

  • I have a Canon 450D with a Sigma 28-70mm lens. And this problems only occurs when I'm outdoors.

  • Its not the camera i have that lens on a 7d and it started doing that yesterday. Its weird it only does it between 17-24mm even at thos focal lengths at f4 they wotk its just 17-24mm after f4 it dosents work

  • i have a canon 500D with a pentax 18-200 lence. i have the same problem (Err 01) and i noticed that i could take a photo if the lence was in the half zoom (about 70)

  • I have a 7d with 28-135mm and I'm getting the same with the exception of the error code...Al focus blinks on LCD and camera wont focus automatically..If I try to shoot video or go to live view, then I get an error.

  • I've got this problem now with my 550d + 24-105mm L IS lens, I found a blog that shows you how to replace the aperture cable, but don't have the balls to do it myself on the L, for those interested, h t t p : // martybugs . net/blog/blog.cgi/gear/lenses/Replacing-Aperture-Cable-in-17-85mm-Lens . html

  • I had this problem with my 40d with my L lens 24-105... service said they are going to change some reflex thing.

  • I have just encuntered the exact same problem! 17-85mm on a Canon 40D!

so its a flex cable issue!!!

after you got the flex cable fixed did the lense work well after that???

sharpness on my 40D is perfect though, no problems there...

  • @buzzonjones mine doesnt worked , but if well known service does the repair , it will ceartanly works .. its expensive but guarantied :/

  • i encounter the same problem.

i bring my lens to canon service center. they able to fixed my lens..

they replaced the flex cable and do some cleaning on the motor inside.

  • we have the same problem bro with the same lens also shit !!!!

  • anyone having really crap sharpness? on the 40d?

  • @matteuklol Nope, never had a problem with sharpness. Sharpness is almost never anything to do with the body as quality of focus and optical quality is all in the lense. Get a decent lens, or maybe it's faulty.

  • I have the same problem, and still havent figured out the solution to this lil annoyance, please let me know if you come up with a way to fix this. Thanks.

  • The problem is defined , its because of breaking the flex cable, inside lens, and solution is changing flex cable or trying to fix cable coint. i cant find it in my country, so i will try to repair. there are sellers in china and hong kong , and its price is 12 $ each .
