You know what I find interesting. Most religions that are major players today got that way because of a convert or die mentality. However, we can rationally decide which idea/person needs to be put away based on the harm/good that is derived from it or he. We can play with semantics all we want, and call hitler a good person, we would still need to shoot him if he was alive. There's a difference between a "hardcore rationalist" and someone who mixes phylosophy and science.

But some things in the bible are difficult (if not impossible) to rationalize, like the death of all the first born of egypt, or even the behavior of Moses, chosen by god, who transformed a simple invasion into a massacre by killing all prisoners (and keeping the virgin women for his army). Also, we have to assume those killed simply died or went to hell, since they didn't believe. This can't be seen as rationally beneficial in any way.

Even though Hitler did a lot of bad things, I really think he was a genius. If he had used his speaking skills and knowledge for the better instead of for the worse, there could have been a lot more positive things in Germany's history. When people ask me who my favorite person in history is I always answer by saying "Hitler". Not because he did terrible things, but because he was so smart and convincing, it amazes me that he /used/ it for that. He was a very interesting historical figure.

You know what I find interesting. Most religions that are major players today got that way because of a convert or die mentality. Seriously, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, Islam, possibly Buddhism (I'm not entirely sure of that one), all started out by killing those who did not convert. Meanwhile you have rational secular humanism (which you seem to be, Dusty), for which there were no forced conversions (unless you count science and cultural education, as some religious do) is on the rise.

@carlsonap16 well, it's fairly simple. From a rational point of view, there is no such thing as "evil" nor "good". However, we can rationally decide which idea/person needs to be put away based on the harm/good that is derived from it or he. We can play with semantics all we want, and call hitler a good person, we would still need to shoot him if he was alive. There's a difference between a "hardcore rationalist" and someone who mixes phylosophy and science.

If someone deserves to die, it is still murder for you to take it into your own hands and punish them.

But some things in the bible are difficult (if not impossible) to rationalize, like the death of all the first born of egypt, or even the behavior of Moses, chosen by god, who transformed a simple invasion into a massacre by killing all prisoners (and keeping the virgin women for his army). Also, we have to assume those killed simply died or went to hell, since they didn't believe. This can't be seen as rationally beneficial in any way.
