Been decades since I played the original arcade version. As you go through all 5 levels, they get insanely, progressively more difficult! There was a secret trick you could pull in Beast level to stack up extra lives, and to go big, you had to commit 3-4 or more hrs, of constant pushing to the left w/ the R-side joystick! I actually went thru invisible slayer levels where they attacked at hyperspeed! There was no final completion to the game. It just kept recycling all 5 levels more insane!
Anyone know anything about the audio hardware used in this game? It sounds to my ears like some sort of basic subtractive synthesis - I think the c64 had real filters in its sound chip, any chance that arcade games had a setup like that?
@VisionofOrion Same here! So Krull as kid in the theater. BTW, I have an X-Arcade Tank stick (USB controller with 2 joysticks, 10 buttons each & a track ball in the center) & it is perfect for playing this game. It's also great for playing Karate Champ & Crazy Climber, basically any game the required 2 joysticks. I only wish they had a controller for games like Tron & Frontline. (joystick/spinner/trigger setup) Also wish I could find a pre-assembled arcade "spinner" for playing Tempest.
I would love to get sound bites of this game for ringtones.

just over three and a half minutes to finish a game, and people complain about today's games being too short.

I remember this one. It was the only game that had like 99 places to enter your initials. Hey, when you were ten, that was a big deal! :)
