Love Daytona USA, first time seen it was in Detroit in 94 with 4 guys playing at once, and then in Daytona on the Boardwalk with 4 units too. But not until went to Dave and Busters and they have 8, did I know I had died and gone to heaven, the best to play with 7 of your buds and wipe their butt.

I just have a little question. Why are Sega games in these videos always running in high def with texture filtering and Namco games run in native res with unfiltered textures. I mean, if you want to compare games you should run both with buffed graphics or run both with native settings.

@leeboy2k1 I live in a ground floor flat and it still posed problems! The stand ups are mega heavy and slippery into the bargain, two uesless hand holes at the top! I've since got rid and built an exact replica of an OutRun stand up, but with a Logitech G25 built into it. It plays all the MAME and the Model 2 stuff perfectly. I used to have an OutRun sitdown deluxe, a Virtua Racing sit down twin, a Super Monaco GP in my kitchen where the cooker should've been, and a Super Hang On!

@leeboy2k1 Oooh, and a Space Harrier sit down, i wish i'd never gotten rid of that. :o( The OutRun sitdown deluxe was so huge and heavy, 770lbs, i had to take my bedroom window out just to get it in. Ahhh, retro gaming, is there anything better?

I remember seeing RR for the 1st time in 1993, and being blown away by the gfx in a way that I hadnt seen in a driver since Hard driving, it was a 6 speed sitdown and it was almost like strapping into a real car, it was awesome..daytona just terrified me, the skill based handling required dedication which I didnt commit to till years later..both are benchmarks in racing game history.

@leeboy2k1 Perfect summary of two great games. I'll always champion Daytona USA over Ridge Racer, but Ridge Racer tapped into the 'cool' element of the community in a way that Daytona USA never did. It was driving on acid, it was a quick fix, making you look great relatively easily. Like i say, i've always been a bigger fan of Daytona, but it wasn't until i finally bought a Daytona arcade cabinet, that i discovered the magic of gear shifting around corners. And it blew my mind!

Daytona USA brought me some of my best childhood memories, it was just so much fun to play, no need for speed or gran turismo game (which are great in their own way) has ever recaptured the level of excitement Daytona provided me. The mechanics just make it too fun to play.

Also this video's lap times on Daytona USA say it all with the skill related argument because even your so called skilled player has set below average lap times. Get your butt on XBOX360 and PS3 Daytona USA and watch replays of real players doing sub 3min times on Advance TA. :)

@F4O Rubbish!! You said another ignorant comment. Advanced time attack? what was shown in the video was normal mode i.e. opponents, NOT T.A. Also, the times in the video are brilliant, expert level and NO WAY below average! Not everyone is skilled like sixfortyfive and marubaku, but even many people and I STILL appreciated what was shown in that video because it was an incredible display of driving on BOTH games in a great show with superb production value!

@EAprima I respect the video and it's a good production, but I am talking facts. The run on Daytona USA with the AI in play is poor and I'm talking to the video creator. I used Time Attack as a pointer that the player should look at others to improve but ignorance of not understanding what has be said is your problem. U can do faster times with the AI than Time Attack... If only people understood the real meaning of Daytona USA then they would know exactly what Ridge Racer is. :)

@F4O The simple answer is thats not the point of the video. in the end of the day, its so obvious that the series is NOT about playing absolutely perfectly, it's about revisting old rivals, comparing games and showcasing each one with solid play. Improve play!? Your highlight of this and using Time Attack as example was actually nothing short of innocuous, egotistical and inflammatory which doesn't gives you any bonus points. @EAprima lmfao you talk of me not listening to the video yet it's clear to those that can hear that the creator said, "Team of experts playing at a top level". Sub 3min times on Advance are viewed as the norm by most players who can play the game, and I was not demanding Super Replay you moron. I even do these times on Sega Saturn when it's clear the masses of video's on Tube prove people can't play it on SS and for that reason have no idea what they are talking about which is your problem too.

@EAprima and that my friend is the VERY answer to this video. Too many people slated Daytona USA for the wrong reasons such as draw distance and not one of them will tell you it's in fact playable with many features of the arcade intact on SS. The same was said of the Dreamcast version and how people found it twitchy to control but people of people can play it. The past has been based around bullshit for Daytona USA yet when a game like Ridge Racer drives it's self it becomes SKILL vs RAIL's.

This video is POINTLESS because Daytona USA requires skill to play where Ridge Racer which put Sony where they are today was all Graphics, Music and very little in the way of GAMEPLAY. Ridge Racer becomes boring too quickly and in later years was used as a launch title because when there is nothing else to buy they can get away with it. Daytona USA will always kick arse and it's New Survival Mode will last a life time. Ridge Racer is massively overrated by talentless average skilled players.

What you don't see is the PSone and Ridge Racer's here at home, you don't even see my copy of Ridge Racer 6 for XBOX 360 and yes I do play Ridge but it does not hold me for long for reasons I have already said. I like both but rige racer is my favorite for single player challenge.. Daytona is fun as well but i wish i could have submit some drving for ridge racer to really get some faster times.

if you cut that intro for daytona, well done. That was awesome! Good video, pretty sure Daytona ran at 30fps though. My choice is Daytona, I always found the Ridge Racer drifting mechanics to feel unnatural.

I'm sorry to say that RR2 did not improve on RR. So i'm sorry to say that Daytona USA is the better game. Simply becuase it is friggin awesome.

I feel, is quite considerably more technically accomplished than RR2.

However, I can't deny that Namco's excellent RR series for PS1 has definitely had it's hand in making me a fan of the series > it's arcade counterparts.

I PREFER the Ridge Racer series of games infinitely > Daytona, however, in this singular vs instance, objectively speaking; I'd say Daytona USA is all round better game.

Hell, Model 2 Daytona USA (and Model 2 titles in general) still look phenomenal today!!!

NickSCFC @ looks like the reiko girl from the ridge racer 7 menu was used but everything there is completely new. never seen it before at all. Well done Trojan, this seriously professional stuff.

Ridge Racer 2, for starters, doesn't even have as much diversity in how many tracks you can race on, or how much track there is to race on to begin with. It's also not as challenging as its competitor, nor as complex and subtly-featured. Only on consoles did the relatively-simplistic, paper-thin polygons of Ridge Racer look better than what Daytona USA had to offer, and only because it had a much better port job.

In the end, Rave Racer just did a better job all around.
