  • The most interesting fact about the '51 i think, is that a Bf-109F or Early G model could outurn it in a low speed, low altitiude dogfight

  • @SwitchbIade17

Yes...I hate the fact but it is true...The Mustang is a high altitude, high speed, "boom and zoom" - fighter and not a turning machine...thats the only thing I hate about the P51D :D

  • @Ghosteye101 it actually is more maneuverable than any other ww2 era plane at high altitude, b/c of its eliptical wing design.

  • what happens? i didn see anything

  • hahas, lol, p51 has a very good sight for around, ilove that plane!

  • video game shit

  • That's why you try and avoid head on encounters with enemy planes, it's just a crap shoot. Try for a lead turn, or any other maneuver that wins you opportunities for a shot.

  • that plane flew with its probs still - shite!!

  • hahahahahahahaha that bitch you disabled his engine!

  • this happened to me in a P-47 against Betty Bombers, the cannon turret hit the engine and turned it off. Still fired and shot the G4M down though :D

  • @jaw1024 I got hit by a short 2-3 round burst from a DC-3 (russian version) whilst breaking away after making a high speed pass and was killed instantly. It was highly irritating and an impossible shot from a considerable distance. Otherwise no damage to my plane

  • it is mega annoying isn't it :S the ai pilots are suspisciously good at timing short bursts, but can't get accurate long "bursts" to save their lives :S

  • Its quite obvious the AI cheats on everything. From the manouvers they can make and sustain without napping, to the damage they can withstand without effect on their performance, followed by their amazing accuracy that always seems to get you on your plane weakest parts.

Its kinda ridiculous that the worst dangers for a human player flying a fighter offline in IL-2 are B-17 or the fucking AAA. Cheating or not its quite easy to get on the AI six and even easier to shake them of your own.

  • Yeah, in fairness it was 20mm cannon turret, and the P-47 is pants :P

I do know what you mean though, i saw an AI I-15 do a 2000metre dive full throttle and it pulled out of it without the wings falling off or anything :P

In the upcoming v4.10 mod the AI won't be able to see you through clouds or from a long range at night, which will be good :D

  • And also, the leap from Average AI to Veteran AI is ridiculous! taking on 4 average AIs is easier than 1 veteran sometimes!

  • Fighter vs fighter does not concern me. As long as you are smart and have a knowledge of your plane and the enemy´s you can get the upper hand.

Against bombers is another thing. I have been downed by bombers while attacking them from the flank at 400km/h in one burst. Hell, i have seen a full AI staffe shot down while fighting against bombers. Lots of missions where the rate downed Fighters vs Bombers is 3:1.

  • That is true, my video of Me-163s vs B-17s, i get shot in the cockpit in a 600kmh pass! The pilot didn't get hit though, phew.

Try Finnish fighters against TB-3s, that's a different story too, which is why when i go as a TB-3 i put the ai level of my gunners up to veteran. That's another thing, if you have the gunners on average they shoot in any old direction :S

  • is it possible to hit the enemy pilot, i think i've only ever done it once but i'm still not sure :P

  • @jaw1024 yeah, you can kill the pilots....there is some setting in one of the files in your IL2 folder you set Gore or something from =0 to =1 and you can see blood spatter on the windscreen and the pilots slumped over. Sucks to be the HE111 top rear gunner....he always dies

  • @CMDRFandragon ah cool. be a change from just having them stop moving :P

when the pilot dies they need to simulate him slumping over, as if he fell on the joystick pushing it in a random direction

  • xD nice one

once this happened to me....I was shot by a flak and my engine caught fire :D

  • LOLZ...how do u fly the P51? cuz obviously I dont know how haha everytime i get in it I can hardly get it above 350 KM/h and when I try to turn even remotly sharp it stalls hahaha....for me the friggin Jug turns tighter then that thing...I want to like the P51 but atm I hate it

  • Pure and simple, don't try to turn tightly. The P-51 wasn't much of a turning fighter, its main advantage was sheer speed. Being faster so fast it could engage and disengage basically at will, allowing the pilot to dictate the fight. What you want to do is use you speed to keep your distance, set up a good position, and make high-speed slashing attacks on your target. Once you've made your attack climb away and reposition.

  • I hate that poor forward visibility

  • The P-51 has excellent forward visibility.

  • small fat font glass, big rim and you see nothing over that nose... I like MIG 3 cockpit view

  • the MiG-3 cockpit looks like something from a spaceship first time you see it :D

  • p-51 is plane with best visibility

  • Heinkel Lerch is

  • @Rammjaeger83 except for the giant control panel in the way of everything

  • @Rammjaeger83 Its very hard to detect a plane behind you...

  • same, all the instruments gathered into one spot does not help :S

  • @dajsinjo Lol you want poor forward visibility go take a joy ride in the plane he was shooting....FW190 or the 262....THAT is poor visibility.......P51 has great all around visibility.

  • i dont get it

  • When I played IL-2 Sturmovik I had that happen to me twice. It is easier then one thinks to have the engine damaged by well placed burst. Also got killed one time with the plane still flying for awhile.

  • really lucky shot..................

  • both aircraft had ups and downs they were both awsome aircraft

  • And he didnt shoot him. The engine was stopped before he missed...

  • It did not stop before he shot. I have viewed this several time after downloading so I could view it in slow motion and zoomed in. I see you make yet another statement that is not supported by observable facts.

  • "How did you get the Blue Nosed Bastard skin??? Ive been fucking looking for that for ages! "

Included in the offline campaign called "Legend os Y-29".

  • @Rammjaeger83 "And where do you get that???"

  • @Rammjaeger83 It's free downloadable. Try some Il-2 forums to asking about skins, or try Skinners Heaven.

  • @Rammjaeger83 BTW are You an author of P-51 Skin in WWII fighters, blue nose P-51 with Sixgun Whore at fusellage?

  • Why didn't You use K-4 acemaker gunsight? :oD

  • How did you get the Blue Nosed Bastard skin??? Ive been fucking looking for that for ages!

  • Maybe BF109 wasnt the best plane, but really better than fucking p51....

  • I beg to differ...

  • The pilot is what makes the most difference. Put an expert pilot in a 109 and he'll shoot down a P51 flown by an average pilot, put the same expert pilot in a P51 and he'll shoot down an average pilot in a 109. The pilot makes the machine deadly, not the other way around.

  • Exactly right. In aerial conbat, you are either a hunter or a target. Not that a hunter can't be shot down by a better (or even luckier) hunter.

  • the plane just makes it easier for the pilot

  • put 2 expert pilots in each plane and then the machine start to make some diferences? lol why all ur comparisons are about an expert vs a avergage?

  • @redhornet07 Put an Average in a Go-229 and an expert in an FW-190 or Bf-109, who wins?

  • Comment removed

  • Really? On what do you base that opinion? Speed, range, firepower, agility, ruggedness, kill ratio?

If you feel so strongly about it, surely wou have some facts to support your position?

  • That wasn't a lucky shot; everyone knows the P-51 was the best fighter plane during the war...

    (heheh)

  • I think that the best airplane was Messerschmit bf 109, it was better in almost everything then P-51.

  • See my comment aboue to AinisStel. On what do you base this statement?

  • Exactly why they were cannon fodder to P51s 44-45

  • @SaturnVII They lost because they were outnumbered, trying to shoot down the bombers and ignore the fighters. ANd the Luftwaffe had been bled dry of its experienced pilots by 1944 by fighting the RAF and the Russians. ALso its industry had been bombed to cr*p. CHeck out the hours of training between a luftwaffe pilot in 1944 and a USAAF or RAF pilot in 1944, the difference is staggering.
