Mariah knows her strongpoint is her VOICE, so you won't catch her J-Setting with her dancers in her LIVE performances, ALL the FOCUS needs to be on the VOICE. Thats why their are background dancers, they can be in the background doing WHATEVER why Mariah is there singing and looking beautiful. Look up any Celine Dion performances she does the same thing.
ummm.... are you kidding? the 90's was the very era of the singer+dancer combo: Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul, Jody Watley, En Vogue, TLC, Pebbles, Karyn White, MC Hammer (rapper but still relevent), Aaliyah, Sisquo, Usher, Ginuwine, not to mention the late 90's spawned the careers of Britney Spears and the rebirth of the Boy Band.
None of the singers you mentioned come EVEN CLOSE to Mariah's vocal abilities, especially at her PEAK, except for maybe Karyn White. Aaliyah was a good singer but not on Mariah's level. What you don't understand is POWERHOUSE singers from the 90's like Mariah, Whitney, Kelly Price, Tamia, Deborah Cox, & Chante Moore never did the type of dancing that the people you mentioned, such as Paula Abdul & Jody Watley did. I'm not saying they never danced but they only gave you a lil somethin, thats it.

It's possible that she had something very painful, who knows, that made her stiffer than normal. But I know her mobility is limited because of the dress+heels.

it was mostly lipped, and most nondelusional people who see it and really pay attention can tell. Sure there were a few live moments, but you could tell by the look of sheer boredom she's wearing that she just wasn't feeling up to it to perform this song completely live.
she does lip a lot but it's the typical sustained wisp like notes. This is not like Patsy Cline doing "Crazy". The songs these days are layered and edited with computers. Only bare bones rockers do one lead vocal. Most pop songs don't have one lead vocal.
Anyone who has paid close attention to Ms Carey since she came out in 1990 knows that she lip syncs alot... she sings to the backing track with a few live parts here and there.

It always looks so weird to me to have all the dancers running around Mariah while she's totally stiff. It reminds me of the scene in Glitter... :-)

Mariah's been doing that. Mariah is a DIVA from the 90's DARLING when you wer either MAINLY a singer or a dancer, not BOTH like Sasha Fierce. Mariah knows her strongpoint is her VOICE, so you won't catch her J-Setting with her dancers in her LIVE performances, ALL the FOCUS needs to be on the VOICE. Thats why their are background dancers, they can be in the background doing WHATEVER why Mariah is there singing and looking beautiful. Look up any Celine Dion performances she does the same thing.

ummm.... are you kidding? the 90's was the very era of the singer+dancer combo: Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul, Jody Watley, En Vogue, TLC, Pebbles, Karyn White, MC Hammer (rapper but still relevent), Aaliyah, Sisquo, Usher, Ginuwine, not to mention the late 90's spawned the careers of Britney Spears and the rebirth of the Boy Band.

None of the singers you mentioned come EVEN CLOSE to Mariah's vocal abilities, especially at her PEAK, except for maybe Karyn White. Aaliyah was a good singer but not on Mariah's level. What you don't understand is POWERHOUSE singers from the 90's like Mariah, Whitney, Kelly Price, Tamia, Deborah Cox, & Chante Moore never did the type of dancing that the people you mentioned, such as Paula Abdul & Jody Watley did. I'm not saying they never danced but they only gave you a lil somethin, thats it.

Your reply is not even relevant to the conversation. My comment was in response to someone saying that in the 90's you were either a singer OR a dancer and that not many people did both, which is just not true. I agree that "powerhouse" singers dont generally dance like Janet BUT when onstage there should be an energy and emotion in your body that shows the audience that you are "connected" with whats going on. Mariah has been missing that for a long time. She definitely had it before....

Not really. Mariah # 1. Wears very high uncomfortable shoes (she said they were all uncomfortable herself), which would inhibit mobility for feel of falling and/or pain. 2. Mariah is notorious for using hand gestures to "feel" the music almost, as though it were some kind of tick that she has. It shows a connection with the music. If you're referring to how she would run around the stage the way she used to, I think its that her voice has aged and she needs to concentrate more, plus the shoes

Nice try..... Mariah has done entirely too much walking in heels to suddenly become immobile on stage when it counts most. Secondly, if you a professional why would you let something as minor as an inch on the heel turn you into a zombie on stage. it seems like she lost it somewhere just after the Unplugged era....

Fool. Number 1, they aren't 1 inch heels. Number 2, we aren't talking about her voice, we are talking about her ability to walk and her energy. Number 3, she is less inhibited now than she ever was. That means that if she wanted to run around how she used to, then she would and could if she lost the heels. Mariah Carey IS a business. Her name is a business. She is trying to sell an image. The image sells better than her enthusiasm. If she stands there looking pretty in high heels and miniskirts her sales will either stabilize or go up. She doesn't want to downplay her image because she'd fade into the background since this is such a publicly sexually driven society we now live in.

This comment i can agree with.. your previous one i wont even comment on. Im not knocking Mariah, as we've seen, many of these celebs have unique issues. Its clear with Mariah that somewhere in her otherwise brilliant mind a chip got lossened and it disconnected her from her ability to PHYSICALLY express the energy and emotion that she so successfully exhibits in her music and recordings.

I'm not interested what you agree with me on or not. Keep that to yourself save yourself the time and effort. Mark my words, Whitney Houston with her damaged voice (similarly to mariah's) will be moving around less enthusiastically than she previously had because Mariah and Whitney need to concentrate very hard to hit the proper notes and stay in key. They are dealing with voices that have endured a lot of wear and tear. (I'm not sure it is even their fault, except for whitney's case).

Also, if you knew about mariah, you'd have known that during this period she was very sick and was on antibiotics. Her behavior WAS stiffer than normal, which is odd because normally she doesn't move around the stage too much but moves her hands and what not (to connect with the music,as you falsely claimed that she doesn't do). It's possible that she had something very painful, who knows, that made her stiffer than normal. But I know her mobility is limited because of the dress+heels.

Yer, Mariah wears like 5/6/ sometimes 7 inch heels for singing in and just going down the street all the time, which people usually inly wear for parties or something. Those ones she wore on Ellen were like buildings! they look good though

it was mostly lipped, and most nondelusional people who see it and really pay attention can tell. Sure there were a few live moments, but you could tell by the look of sheer boredom she's wearing that she just wasn't feeling up to it to perform this song completely live.

she does lip a lot but it's the typical sustained wisp like notes. This is not like Patsy Cline doing "Crazy". The songs these days are layered and edited with computers. Only bare bones rockers do one lead vocal. Most pop songs don't have one lead vocal.
