I cant believe that something as beautifull and as grand as this, has just been left 2 fall apart, something should b done, all the heads in the NHS should b lined up and shot.
No wonder local Trusts say the NHS is underfunded...look at the waste, the NHS should hang their heads in shame. All those unused beds, equipment and property!! it's outrageous. I agree that on paper, care in the community is the only way forward, but homeless people with mental illnesses would probably be grateful for a couple of those mattresses. I so wish this could be given more exposure. xx
is that the chaldon church place? used to go up there sometimes with my mates at night, scary shit sometimes. the noises u hear! creepy graveyard too. its in the woods isnt it?
lol som1 lives in that cottage, we went up there bout 2 or 3 years ago and sum old man chased us out. dont know y we ran from an old man but it was kinda creepy up there
that happened to me and my mates too! another time we drove up there and saw some other lads who had the same idea, we scared the shit out of eachother and all drove off. i hear there is a lot of devil worshipping up there.
May I first congratulate on the astounding video collage! I work for a promotions company, and I am trying to arrange a photoshoot for a seminal death metal band. Could you provide me with any information of whom I can contact to get into the building? Or did you slyly sneak in? 0796 7879 805
I'm an American. I find old abandoned buildings, especially grand ones such as these very fascinating. When was it just up and abandoned? It would be a shame to demolish the place, why not put money into it and make it a new hospital? What happened there so suddenly to abandon it and never return, why was it just left there to decay for years and years?
It was built as a lunatic asylum, but with changes in medicine and care in the community, the place became surplus to requirements and closed in the early 1990's. Due to the amount of damage it is unlikely that much will be saved.
I'll take your first comment as a joke but not the second. 1 in 4 people have mental health problems in the uk ,about 15 million or more than voted for this government! hardly 'strange' then is it?
It's being slowly demolished now starting June 2 2008. Get along quick and record what's left. You only have a few months.

I reconise a few of those rooms from when I was a kid. My mum used to work these as a nurse/office staff. Wow really has declined badly.

What a gorgeous building/complex. It's a shame it's fallen into such disrepair.
Are they demolishing it? what's to be done with it?

Have some respect mate. If you had any idea of the awful things that happened in these institutions you would not be so flippant.
