I think NYOIL has a future in politics as a Green candidate in New York City.
He made a difficult choice as shown in the above speech. He wants things the Democrats will not offer. He's a great speaker (and artist too) and can push the envelope as an elected Green.
a vote for Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente is a vote in the garbage. if what you're going to do is throw your vote away, why even leave the house on tuesday?
It seems you do not know US Election Law or FEC Rules.
5% of the vote for McKinney/Clemente means the Green Party gets MILLIONS of $ in funding as a political party as well as funding for 2012 presidential election. This would make the Green Party (and McKinney) a VIABLE candidate in 2012. This are the Rules and Laws in the US.
May I ask why you do not know US Federal Election Rules and Laws if you are a US citizen?
I understand the law. You shouldn't try to assume intellectual superiority. People with a true understanding are not the ones who feel as though they have to regurgitate these absurd loopholes that actually amount to nothing. Nothing because if you feel that a Green Party representative is an actual viable candidate then you are poorly informed.
I love NY OIL man, very intelligent dude, but the major flaw with his argument is that the US does not truly have an open electoral process. This is a 2 party system (he even acknowledges this, a democrat or a republican will win! support Cynthia McKinney in spirit but mark Obama on paper. One day a 3rd party may have a chance NY but it ain't Nov. 4, 2008
NYOIL is the truth. I've been following him for awhile now. I download every podcast I can get him on. I really love Rosa Clemente, though. She does so much for human rights. She was in New Orleans giving the public the real on the conditions. Also about the evacuees that went to Houston, among other things. It's just great to see the intelligent side of Hip-Hop.
Maybe JAY Z benefits by supporting someone who supports and is supported by corporations and big business whereas NY OIL has principles as he states in this video.
I guess you think voting for Obama who SUPPORTS the DEATH PENALTY is a good thing? I hope you never know anybody in Troy Davis situation.
this guy is speaking out of his ass...we dont give a shit about mckinney or clemente...they will never make it to the white house in a million years...
if this son bitch thinks cynthia mckinney is gonna make it to the white house, i dont know what the hell to tell him. white people are the majority in this country, i hate to say it, but their vote is needed to win an election. if you alienate them, you wont get very far. cynthia mckinney is too inclusive and she may not get a single vote on election day. this is coming from a black woman by the way. im voting for obama, he has a realistic chance of winning!!!!!!
The question is do YOU win if you vote for Obama. You won't! There was an article on CNN by a conservative commentator that listed how Obama basically supports the same policies as Bush and has, for the most part, voted for Bush's proposal including FISA and the Bank Bailout (giveaway).
We had Clarence Thomas, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice. Do you consider that "winning?" Get beyond Obama's nice rhetoric and look at his voting record and what he's supporting.
UncleRico: IRREGARDLESS of what NYOIL is wearing, DID YOU GET WHAT NYOIL WAS SAYING? Did you HEAR and LISTEN to what NYOIL was saying? And more importantly, Did you UNDERSTAND and COMPREHEND what NYOIL was saying? Have you LISTENED to NYOIL'S MUSIC? Are you familiar with his INTERVIEWS, HIS MINDSET, his VIEWPOINT, what MAKES HIM TICK? NYOIL is dropping knowledge, yet it's LOST ON YOU because you fixate on his MATERIAL presence rather than his INTELLECTUAL ESSENCE. Go watch a roKKK-a-wear ad.
I don't care for his music so much, but I do listen to his words. I find he has anger issues.
I'm not fixated on his wears, I'm commenting on the hypocrisy of dissing another man based on his look and he comes off looking like the Chocolate Mr Rogers.
With all due respect, "Uncle" if the excessive amount of modern-day minstrelsy and buffoonery in modern-day "Hip Hop" doesn't anger you, I strongly suggest you get your pulse checked and get an MRI - seriously. Secondly, NYOIL wasn't talking about what someone was wearing - again you're reaching. He's talking about how some of us will sell another of us, up the river, and throw us under the bus to make the other man and other wo-man comfortable. Watch the clip again. PEACE.
As for "stepping over" people, maybe in his realm of ethics, he's doing the right thing.
Maybe he's not in agreement with Rev. Wright. Perhaps, he's not down with a call to violence. Perhaps he is intent on using diplomacy over radical action.
Who am I to judge. Certainly not the one who calls himself NEW YORK OIL.
NY OIL, if that is his real name, is being hypocritical by speaking out against people because they don't look like him. Stating that they're not from his hood because of the way they act or speak, and that he can't relate. Yet, he's wearing a sweater vest.
How do you reconcile that?
It's merely an observation on my part as to his inconsistency.
Also, upon further review, I find him guilty of equivocation!
Some believe Obama is disingenuous. Seen comment regarding CNN commentor who listed how Obama supports and voted for most of Bush's policies including the Patriot Act, FISA, the "Wall Street Bailout (giveaway)."
NYOil changed to McKinney because he did his homework.
Watch Cynthia speak, she sounds like she's down in it, for real.
Watching Obama, he's elegant well spoken, the Master Juba of the Democratic Party. The dynamo performing with a bunch of white men performing the roles of working people, people of color and the marginalized.
Did you read the seecraig post below. 5% of the vote and McKinney/Clemente and the Green Party get MILLIONS of DOLLARS so they CAN be elected in following election cycle or two. Federal Law on funding National Political Parties.
There are already over 200 Greens elected in cities as large as Boston and San Francisco. Voting for McKinney/Clemente mean more will get elected, means the party will become a competitive funded national political party. 5% - that's ALL that is needed.
The ignorance of the American Citizen about it's own political system rules and laws allow the continued subjugation of the people in general and communities of color in particular. Listen to NYOil's message. Learning the Law is to know your weapon.
And what? The Green party has been viable in the past. SO what? At most it cost us an election and gave us 8 years of Bush. Reality? The majority of the US, of any ethnicity, is centrist, moderate, so people like Rosa Clemente are great for speeches and pushing the envelope, but have no chance in hell of getting elected.
A voting system that DOES NOT EXIST in nearly every other modern democracy gave us Bush. The only country where having a popular plurality loses an election. A country that does NOT have run off voting. Laws created by Democrats and Republicans to suppress the will of the public.
CITIZENS put candidate on the ballot. CITIZENS chose who to vote that. Suppression of that is dictatorship (to dictate!) and the desire to control choice is wrong whether Republican or Democratic (or any other party).
Many states can get ballot access in addition. Again you don't seem to know election law at all. Many local candidate can win elections due to the affiliation.
Top MCs like NYOil show support and votes build. A party as a political team builds. Expansion teams eventually win world championships. You win by building. 200 plus wins already (and that's currently, past wins total much higher overall).
Again, you are speaking of the party. I am not. I am speaking specifically of the two candidates being presented in the presidential ticket. The Green Party has plenty of time to grow.
Getting elected is not the point. Building a viable third party is the point. We need third parties more than ever because the Republicans and the Democrats are so very much the same where it counts -- corporate war parties who won't do enough about climate change until it's too late. we need another party to get us out of this mess and I just hope it won't be too late.
And for a viable party to exist you want viable candidates for credibility. I am sorry but Rosa Clemente has credibility as an orator, but why would anyone see her as a credible politician?
Shoot, Al Sharpton has more of a chance than Rosa.
This argument that the Greens cost the election is for those unthinking sheep who bought into mainstream media's talking points. There's a very simple mathematical answer: Gore lost by 500 votes in Florida, yet 25000 Florida Democrats voted for Bush & the Governor successfully purged 97000 Florida voters from a manipulated felon list. So try that vacuous, empty, pathetic argument again. You're welcome to keep on YAWNING while the 2-party system strips you of your rights & destroys this country.
Even with that convicted Felon list, 500 votes more would have given him the election. Your point? You have the Green Party, the Libertarian Party, Boston Tea Party, Personal Choice Party, Constitution Party, etc. Keep spouting vacuous strawmen. I am well aware of the two party hegemony problem. Notice I am not critisizing other Third Party candidates.
This is simple math. Why must you blame the Green Party & not the 25000 Democrats who voted for Bush? Please get off this empty argument. Based on current election laws, we MUST run Pres & VP candidates to maintain hard won ballot status for all of our candidates in many states. Otherwise we are constantly repeating our petitioning efforts year after year. As for the viability argument, why must the Green Party please the sleeping masses with a "winner" when what we really need is the truth?
LOL. Sorry but Rosa Clemente is known for fudging the truth at times when it's convenient to her. At least Nader had more credibility.
I don't blame the green party, you can vote for any emty vote you want. But then don't turn around and complain because a person got elected. Simple math.
I know the law. I am a lawyer. THat is why you have campains to educate the average citizen of the political process. But again, how is the green party going to make a difference? What are there policies to implement? And how do they even plan on being competitive?
Being a lawyer does not mean one knows FEC, laws, advisory opinions, etc.. Saying you "know the law" would be an incredibly naive statement for a lawyer to make. There are many areas of expertise.
Look at various websites. Look at the 200 plus elected Greens ALL functioning local legislators and administrators. Naive of you to think that can be listed here. A good lawyer knows how to research. A good student of politics knows a speech is simply an overview.
ANd as a lawyer who has researched political processes, I am well aware of how elections occur. Your point? Note that I did not claim that the Green Party per se was not viable. We have plenty of independent candidates in local offices. But we aren't talking about the local governmental positions. We are talking of the Pres and the VP. And those two don't have a chance in hell. Try again.
5% of the popular vote is difficult but it's been done before. John Anderson, another former Congressperson, did in 1980 and, while he didn't build a political party with that result (rather unfortunate) Center for Voting and Democracy was a good result and continues to push Electoral Voting System Reforms.
A Presidential campaign can impact local races in too many ways to list here.
People like NYOil may be future candidates so in that respect the campaign may already be "winning."
this is unproductive. why not nader? people have succumbed to the stigma the media has given him. his policies (i.e. vis a vis the war on drugs) would do good by america's poor black communities. instead perhaps in part because he's white the grass roots left vote and the black vote will be split for no good reason.
Nader is not building a ballot access institution with resources that can win elections. The Green Party has about 230 local office holders.
If McKinney/Clemente get 5% of the vote the Green Party gets MILLIONS OF DOLLARS for the next presidential election. Several state parties may also gain ballot status which will mean local candidate can run and win.
It's a tangible and practical goal. Nader runs on (good) issues. McKinney builds an enduring institution with developing resources.
He said it! I knew there was something that bothered me about Obama's life experience identifying with the black community, but as a white woman, I could not exactly say what it was. It is said clearly here. Thank you. Now if this message can just get out. It has been a long time since the Democratic party has shown the loyalty to the African-American community that the community has shown to the Democratic party. Of course that is true for "labor" too; I hope the labor movement wakes up.
CANT YOU SEE!!

Watch Cynthia speak, she sounds like she's down in it, for real.
Watching Obama, he's elegant well spoken, the Master Juba of the Democratic Party. The dynamo performing with a bunch of white men performing the roles of working people, people of color and the marginalized.

And the green party has a chance and what to be elected? LOL
Salsassin 3 years ago

Salsassin 3 years ago
A voting system that DOES NOT EXIST in nearly every other modern democracy gave us Bush. The only country where having a popular plurality loses an election. A country that does NOT have run off voting. Laws created by Democrats and Republicans to suppress the will of the public.
CITIZENS put candidate on the ballot. CITIZENS chose who to vote that. Suppression of that is dictatorship (to dictate!) and the desire to control choice is wrong whether Republican or Democratic (or any other party).
seecraig 3 years ago
Yawn, even with the popular vote, not a chance in hell. Your point?
Salsassin 3 years ago
Many states can get ballot access in addition. Again you don't seem to know election law at all. Many local candidate can win elections due to the affiliation.
Top MCs like NYOil show support and votes build. A party as a political team builds. Expansion teams eventually win world championships. You win by building. 200 plus wins already (and that's currently, past wins total much higher overall).
seecraig 3 years ago
Again, you are speaking of the party. I am not. I am speaking specifically of the two candidates being presented in the presidential ticket. The Green Party has plenty of time to grow.
Salsassin 3 years ago
Getting elected is not the point. Building a viable third party is the point. We need third parties more than ever because the Republicans and the Democrats are so very much the same where it counts -- corporate war parties who won't do enough about climate change until it's too late. we need another party to get us out of this mess and I just hope it won't be too late.
shellius 3 years ago

You're welcome to keep on YAWNING while the 2-party system strips you of your rights & destroys this country.
greenpartycat 3 years ago
Even with that convicted Felon list, 500 votes more would have given him the election. Your point? You have the Green Party, the Libertarian Party, Boston Tea Party, Personal Choice Party, Constitution Party, etc. Keep spouting vacuous strawmen. I am well aware of the two party hegemony problem. Notice I am not critisizing other Third Party candidates.
Salsassin 3 years ago
This is simple math. Why must you blame the Green Party & not the 25000 Democrats who voted for Bush? Please get off this empty argument. Based on current election laws, we MUST run Pres & VP candidates to maintain hard won ballot status for all of our candidates in many states. Otherwise we are constantly repeating our petitioning efforts year after year. As for the viability argument, why must the Green Party please the sleeping masses with a "winner" when what we really need is the truth?
greenpartycat 3 years ago

Salsassin 3 years ago
Being a lawyer does not mean one knows FEC, laws, advisory opinions, etc.. Saying you "know the law" would be an incredibly naive statement for a lawyer to make. There are many areas of expertise.
Look at various websites. Look at the 200 plus elected Greens ALL functioning local legislators and administrators. Naive of you to think that can be listed here. A good lawyer knows how to research. A good student of politics knows a speech is simply an overview.
seecraig 3 years ago
ANd as a lawyer who has researched political processes, I am well aware of how elections occur. Your point? Note that I did not claim that the Green Party per se was not viable. We have plenty of independent candidates in local offices. But we aren't talking about the local governmental positions. We are talking of the Pres and the VP. And those two don't have a chance in hell. Try again.
Salsassin 3 years ago
5% of the popular vote is difficult but it's been done before. John Anderson, another former Congressperson, did in 1980 and, while he didn't build a political party with that result (rather unfortunate) Center for Voting and Democracy was a good result and continues to push Electoral Voting System Reforms.
A Presidential campaign can impact local races in too many ways to list here.
People like NYOil may be future candidates so in that respect the campaign may already be "winning."
seecraig 3 years ago
this is unproductive. why not nader? people have succumbed to the stigma the media has given him. his policies (i.e. vis a vis the war on drugs) would do good by america's poor black communities. instead perhaps in part because he's white the grass roots left vote and the black vote will be split for no good reason.
j11j11j11j11 3 years ago
