@SenorBivins For the record, there is no "supposed to." There is no right way, nor is there a wrong way. This isn't brain surgery, neither is it fulfilling a recipe. You cannot, neither can InfidelAmsterdam, say either is doing something a "real" vocalist is "supposed to." And having a mic turned "all the way up" is nothing bad. Ever heard of Opeth? He has a compressor with a 39:1 (fucking smashed) and cranked into a tube preamp. I don't think even you will say HE is a poor vocalist.

it would sound better if you had a mic and your lows weren't so deep.
