  • i am drp shop for AAA, farmers and progressive. i must say AAA do care about customers car. no comments for farmers and progressive.

  • Take my advice, if you are a tech. don't fix the car until insurance company pay what is right. Or if you work for a body shop that bent over for insurance company GET OUT. Screw the insurance company, without the technicians they can fix cars.

  • Most body shops are forced in to being a DRP. This could be of many reasons and one would be lack of quality management of the shop. True, the shop is to blame for allowing such repairs to flow through their shop, BUT, the insurance companies are ONLY out to save themselves money. The insurance adjusters do what they can for their paycheck, but still, if insurance companies are allowed to say what can be fixed, with what and how, then there will always be fraudulent repairs.

    We've been DRP free for 3 years now and I'll never look back.

  • They are forced. If they do not, then the insurance companies "steer"(by that I mean BS) the customers to shops who will work WITH the insurance companies. Anything to save the Ins. Co. a buck. Seriously, anything. It should be outlawed. Customers need to be well informed about how the "scam" (DRP) really works.

  • They steer even among DRPs. That's a given. SF steers and attempts to steer our customers daily. I have the recorded phone calls to prove it.

    I agree that it should be outlawed, but I disagree that the shops are forced. If shops would simply tear up their agreements...no more steering.

    We have an excellent reputation so steering attempts, while sometimes successful, aren't as effective.

    your comment is bull----. it is the drp shop and the insurance co's fault. the shop that is a drp is so weak and lacking charcter that they will do anything to get the job anything!do right educuate the consumer repair the cars right. work for the customer -not the insurance company!the adjusters don't know how to wright an estimate & repair a car or they are too afraid of loosing their job to do what is right. n-wide & progerssive are the worst.

  • sorry, but this is bullshit, most of the time the DRP SHOP is not to blame. The insurance companies refuse to pay the bill and therein lies the problem. Insurance adjusters write their own estimates and 9 times out of 10, they have never worked on a car in their lives. Progressive is the worst.

  • Then demand a supplement! Fix the car right...don't roll over!

  • Supplement is an insurance word. Charge the vehicle owner for what you have to do to properly repair their vehicle and let them fight it out with the insurer. After all, THEY have the contract with the ins co, not us.

  • In a perfect world, if the majority of shop owners/managers did this, it would work. Unfortunately, our industry has long since whored itself to the insurance industry. We should copy the medical industry and bill for every aspirin & ass wipe etc. that is used and stand firm.Let the customer "co-pay". I keep going to the supermarket and demand that I only pay for certain items in my cart but they just don't seam to grasp the concept

  • No. The last thing we need to do is involve insurer interference. CHARGE THE CUSTOMER. That is what we should do. That's what I do. I get paid. Insurers know that I know who owes me (vehicle owner) and they know who I'll charge (vehicle owner) and therefore the vast majority reimburse their insureds for the repairs.

    We must avoid anything that resembles the medical side. Health insurance contracts are VASTLY different than prop and casualty. I use the supermarket analogy often myself. :)

  • @deege52 It works in our shop everyday and we're the "only one" that does it. Anything else is just an excuse. The only thing we should copy is a business that charges for what it does and charges the only person they can charge....the vehicle owner. Doing that fixed our issues.

  • Tell that to the judge when the shop gets sued for an improper repair. Judge will say (and State Farm or whatever ins co) "you fixed the car".

    I don't work off insurance company "claims sheets" (I refuse to call them estimates) I work off my own damage analysis that I write after the vehicle is disassembled.

    State Farm touts they pay better than any other insurance company too. To that I say BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    not by a mile. Even progressive pays better than SF in my shop.

  • @txr0ckabilly but the insurance company doesn't fix the car, the shop does and is liable for 100% of the repairs. DRP shops are the problem. No one is twisting their arm to sign up, they are begging to sign up. Let's keep it real. I've never been to a single auto body related meeting, seminar et al where one shop told me they were forced to sign a DRP agreement. At our shop we're responsible and we fix the car and get paid..........period.
