We LOVE Urge, and miss them so badly here in Canada. THIS SONG ROCKS, and picks up right where they left off. Can't wait to hear the new record!!!! NEVER GIVE UP, UO!!!
I just noticed this isn't the same version of "Effigy" as on the album. The album version is a slightly different, punchier mix, and has group backing vocals. Sneaky, UO.
@Pantherboy2 It's possible! Although the single came out right before the album, so it's my guess that the 7" version and the LP version are the same, and that they simply decided to add more backing vocals as they were finishing up the album, months after they'd already released the original mp3 of "Effigy" to the public.
Pre-ordered the new album on vinyl through the UO website today, came with instant digital download on mp3. The new album is AWESOME. So far, my favorite is "Little Vice".
OH Pyenapple!=-D where are you!!! I have The SATURATION UO TATTED on my Upper Right Arm. I have Eddie "King" Roesers E-Mail!! I saw them sing 3 Times.!! THANK YOU FOR BREAKING THE SINGLE!!! Drippy and I (Exit) are going to see them in L.A. in Mid-May!!! You going to be there??? UO!! SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS!!!!! Like the dude said..."The Most Criminally Underrated Band ever..." Exit The Dragon(Tracks 2-11) No Auto Tune here folks!!! This song is named after Effigy(band
@pyenapple i wanted to get about 50 things on record store day but i had to work and everything was SOLD OUT once i got to the stores! aaarghhhhhhhhhhhh! lol
The new album comes out MAY 10! And the limited-edition "Effigy" 7 inch single comes out on APRIL 16 (Record Store Day 2011!). Support UO and your local independent record stores!
Fantastic--absolutely solid song. Beautiful, tough, tremendous character, depth, lots of cool twists and turns--all of which resolve back at the door of the hypnotic verse. This is great rock songwriting. When are these guys going to get their due? I hope the new album breaks them international--they deserve to be big stars. They should be playing arenas. Go, Nash and Eddie: you're great.
Ah, that's right! I was mixing it up with another song. Oh yes, Take a Walk is so amazing! That was the first song I ever heard from this band. I haven't heard many others, but that song is certainly a masterful piece of music.
@easternmind I recommend that album ("Exit The Dragon") if you like the song. You can probably get it for pennies if you buy the disc online. :) Most of the songs have a distinctly dark, melancholy edge to them, though there are a few rockers as well. One of my favorite albums.
@Fedeitor No, it's Brian Quast from the group Polvo, he's been the drummer for UO for half a decade now. And Mike "Hadji" Hodgkiss on bass from The Gaza Strippers. :)
Wow..."alternative" rock...or better still...simply great music with depth in both the lyrics and rhythm. With all due respect to the grungers of the 90s...many dead and done...or sold out…sadly....these gents had it right all the time. Misread, misunderstood...passed off...unfairly...yet always and now again so original...honest, genuinely AUTHENTIC...in all its glory...
How wonderful to see the best band...the quintessential indie act from the 90s...back on track. Bring it on...!!
YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!! THE MOST UNDERRATED MUSIC ACT OF THE 90's! SO INFLUENTIAL IN SO MANY WAYS. LETS HOPE THEY GET THE RECOGNITION THEY DESERVE!
...this makes me feel ten feet tall.......UO are back with new music (AT LAST!!) ....and this sounds like it was worth the wait.......Hollywood New O 90210.....
Loved this!! :-)

Didn't they cover the song EFFIGY by CCR back in 1992 on the "No Alternative" compilation album?
easternmind 1 year ago
@easternmind Nah, but the song "View Of The Rain" off "Exit The Dragon" LP was on it, only with an early title (as "Take A Walk".)

@easternmind That was Uncle Tupelo doing 'Effigy' on 'No Alternative'. It's a great compilation.
