horseshoe crabs need a sand bottom with it about a sugar grain consistency. They then burrow and feed off debris in the sand. Otherwise they usually starve in most tanks.

It is true. They are more related to Spiders and Scorpions than to Crabs and Lobsters. They are from the Arachnid side of the family tree.
