  • i got one out of the river whered you get yours

  • horseshoe crabs need a sand bottom with it about a sugar grain consistency. They then burrow and feed off debris in the sand. Otherwise they usually starve in most tanks.

It is true. They are more related to Spiders and Scorpions than to Crabs and Lobsters. They are from the Arachnid side of the family tree.

  • unless they're in a flat environment these guys look pretty uncoordinated..

  • it is a true crab and dont give me shit its related to spiders and mites all crabs are relaed to spiders and mites

  • it is not a true crab

  • Where did you get the horseshoe crabs

  • IT'S EATING THE WALL

  • can horseshoe live on shore?

  • yes

  • horseshoe crabs are legal pets?

  • maybe in some countries, hey did you know the horseshoe crabs have been around since the dinosaurs?

  • ooh. yeah and they haven't changed since

  • LOL, yea their evolution system got wacked. XD

  • also, horseshoe crabs have almost exactly the same blood as humans, making them perfect for studies

  • except i've read that they have copper in their blood instead of iron... doesn't that make them very different?

  • bumblebee022 here, yes, that is true, but im not sure wat exactly makes them perfect for studies

  • Horseshoe Crabs don't have hemoglobin like Humans. Plus, when exposed to oxygen, Horseshoe Crab blood is blue!

  • not only this, but their eye-structure is very unique.

A human eye has a single lense, whereas a horseshoe crab's eye has hundreds of separate lenses. They see a fragmented picture rather than one clear image. It's very odd, and scientists are not sure exactly how this benefits the horseshoe crab. They think it may allow it to respond quicker to nearby movements and flashes of light.

  • that's pretty crazy. Horseshoe crabs are cool...

  • well we have 2 lenses total and we usually don't see a fragmented image until we cross our eyes. maybe they can see (and focus) in 3D.

I always wonder what it's like to have 1 eye on each side of my head like fish do. That would be DOPE!

    Hahahaha

  • i don't know but it seems cool

  • i don't like horseshoe crabs when fishing ._.

i was fishing one day near the shore, felt something and pulled my rod up...

i found this gigantic horseshoe crab attached and eating away at my fish :(

  • I always find blue crabs doing that lol. Would it be called crabbing to catch crabs that way? I only have a fishing license is why I'm asking lol.

  • oh my god u can have pet horseshoe crabs? awesome!

  • ha ha he it does!

  • They have horseshoe crabs at my lfs for $10, i would have got him but i knew he grew way to big

  • aren't horseshoe crabs endangered?

  • no, they mate more than 100 000 a year for every female. But they are rare to see in big groups.

  • i have a pet giant clam

  • How did u get it, did u catch it or buy it? anyone have anyway to get one of these lil' buggers?

  • BREATHTAKING video- your tank is gorgeous! The colors, the whole deal, wow! Do you have a million dollar camera or something?

  • Not at all, why do you ask?

  • Just the quality, looks very professional.

  • It's all about the compression of the video when you save it.

  • Hey the horseshoe crab looks like an extinct Trilobite.

  • Similar but no.

  • beautiful creatures that you are taking care of god bless you all i love living things

  • I love animals too. That's why I am a manager at PetSmart.

  • You've got crabs!

    XD

  • Uh oh, I do!

  • ehem triops

  • i liked this. i would like a crab tank, but it's probably a hassle to take care of. i'm pretty familiar with crabs from my yout, but say, can horseshoes see anything outta those creepy eyes of theirs?

  • In 1967, Dr. H. Keffer Hartline received the Nobel Prize for his research on horseshoe crab vision. He discovered how sensory cells in the retina help the brain process visual cues, enabling horseshoe crabs to see lines, shapes, and borders. This mechanism, called lateral inhibition, allows horseshoe crabs to distinguish mates in murky water. Research of this type is helpful to understanding human eye diseases like retinitis pigmentosa, which causes tunnel vision and can lead to total blindness.

  • I'm starting to itch! Good quality footage.

  • That is one cool crustacean video!

  • Thanks. It's so interesting how they move so much yet they don't really move at ALL.
