@jmwwd No, the head gasket is a much more difficult job. In this video we are just replacing the valve cover gasket. The head gasket sits between the cylinder head and engine block, and requires removal of the cylinder head itself.
Honda says you should apply liquid gasket to the inside corners of the gasket where it bumps over the middle parts on the sides, I could see your old gasket had red rtv 600 degree silicone on it but you never put new liquid gasket on the new valve cover.
I HAVE A HONDA CIVIC 94 1.6 VTEC ENGINE AND THE EXHAUST SMELL LIKE GASOLINE STILL DONT KNOW WHY CAN SOME ONE HELP ME OUT... I PUT A COLD AIR INTAKE AND HEADERS ON THE ENGINE.
Very nice tutorial. Do you have anything for 96 Nissan sentra XE? I changed the gasket, spark plug and wires, alternator and battery. After 6 months the car is stalling right after it is started. The car shakes when ac is turned on and also when I stop at lights. When going, no problem what so ever. Please help
My buddy has a 96 civic dx and his d16ys doesn't have two of the bults for the valve cover but the car still has pretty good low end torque is there any problems he will run into in the future?
@coltenW1 if he is missing valve cover bolts, the only issue he may run into is a leaking valve cover gasket, but it won't hurt anything mechanically.
@Meze2Official If the oil is coming out of the tailpipe, it is not going to be your valve cover gasket,, even if oil is leaking down into the spark plug tubes, there is no way for the oil to get past the spark plug itself and down into the combustion chamber. Unfortunately burning oil indicates a more serious problem, usually either the valve seals or the piston rings.
90 ft lb? when i did this it broke 4 of the 5 bolts. and i had to extract them. i have the same car. and when i checked the manual it says only 7 ft lb. that doesn't sound right. what do i do. i have a 94 civic ex coupe
@pavel4 Sealant (A Silicone Based RTV) Should be applied at any point where the gasket makes a sharp corner, specifically in the 2 corners on the side of the distributor hump, and on the opposite side where the camshaft pulley is. You can see the location of the sealant on the old gasket when it comes off, (Little orange blobs stuck to the old gasket)
Why did you skip the most important part? Which is where to apply the sealant. Also, should have shown how to reinstall the gasket. That's what I was looking for. All u did was take off the valve cover and put it back on. Didn't show how to replace gasket at all. Just sayin'. Just wanted to see those to major parts when changing the gasket.

@DOC2690 Sorry for the confusion. This is a two part video and you can find the second half on our channel page or in related videos. Its titled "1994 Honda Civic Part 2: Tune Up" I'll see if I can add a video comment with it.

So is this the fix for a "blown head gasket"? I don't know if it is the same issue you are fixing in this vid?

UNENCUMBERED1 5 months ago
@UNENCUMBERED1 You can paint them, or have them powdercoated for the best results,, or you can purchase one that is already red.

@rijoshj First of all, is your check engine light on? if so the first step would be to get the codes scanned and find out what the trouble codes are.
