@pixelape99 How about this perspective: If you know cops are going to lay a beating on you even when you comply, why would you stick around for the beating? At least try to run to a public place so there might be witnesses. Just watch a few days or weeks worth of police brutality videos all over youtube, then try to estimate how much more it happens when there are no cameras around, then make your own choice about whether you trust them or not.
the problem here is, we dont know the circs.... sure it looked like he was giving up, but when he bent down he may have been going for a weapon? we dont know what this guy has just done to make him run from police, what info has been passed to police from witnesses etc, maybe the police have been advised armed with firearms etc.

The officers told him to stop running. And he didn't. They did what they had to do to get the man to stop, arrest him, and protect their own lives in the process. This was not police brutality. If the man had stopped when asked, that would've never happened. All you have to do is comply everything will be fine. The cops don't just beat people for no reason. Aggressive force is used as a Plan B, if the suspect doesn't cooperate. This man is actually lucky they didn't used Deadly force on him.

Cops doling out street justice is what the outrage is all about. It's for the courts to decide how, or if a "beating" is in order. Watch again and see how many cops are trying to get in on the "action", they can't wait to hit someone, but it's not even their job at the point, only handcuffs are needed, as he has then decided to be compliant.

@puffintuffer Ok. I'm a cop in the US Navy. I know the rules. The cops were justified because the man RAN FIRST. When he stopped, they couldn't be sure if he was hostile or not. His surrendering could be a ploy to trick the cops into thinking he's giving up, but then he could pull a weapon out on the cops. WHO KNOWS. Since he ran, they have to assume, for their own protection, that the suspect is hostile.

Once they are on top of suspect and have determined there is no weapon, or have secured said weapon, it is against your RULES to give a beating such as this.The suspect surrendered to avoid inevitable brutality. I also know about laws.

@puffintuffer Cops think this is the case because it is what they are TAUGHT in their training. They HAVE to assume the suspect is hostile, to protect themselves. If the suspect had wanted to avoid being beat up, he should have been compliant from the second he got caught. Does it make me feel good to see this? Certainly not! The cops did what they were trained to do. He was LUCKY they weren't MILITARY police. In cases like that, WE were trained to shoot to stop. I would have shot him.

At least try to run to a public place so there might be witnesses. Just watch a few days or weeks worth of police brutality videos all over youtube, then try to estimate how much more it happens when there are no cameras around, then make your own choice about whether you trust them or not.

the problem here is, we dont know the circs.... sure it looked like he was giving up, but when he bent down he may have been going for a weapon? we dont know what this guy has just done to make him run from police, what info has been passed to police from witnesses etc, maybe the police have been advised armed with firearms etc.
also, when he's on the floor he may still be going for a weapon, or resisting giving up his arms for cuffing.

Yeah, they just had to chase him through a neighborhood possibly endangering others, including little kids, then he decides to run and just suddenly gives up, how do they know hes really giving up and the second they turn their attention away, hes not going to try to run again. If this was a guy that kidnapped and sexually assaulted children and was running from the police, you'd be saying that they didn't beat his ass enough.
