We had this in France too...And I'm sure I thought this was great, since I associate tis period of my life (=my childhood) with happiness and insouciance... Now, I can really see (-and I agrre with most comments on that...) that it was for real just cheesy, and innocent, fake...etc ... seen from nowadays, of course !
