Thanks for the great info! Im wiring to fans into my truck to get rid of the stock clutch fan now. Before I knew about relays I was just running fuses and keep blowing them up hopefully this will fix that
@Annergize True but the difference is that it can control higher currents better. Imagine turning on headlights with tons of AMPS going through the steering wheel, it would get HOT FAST. However with a relay and good location you can control higher amps more safely. I get your point though.
Question though, if a relay is getting 12v from the battery, what is there to convert? I get that the answer is amperage. But what I dont get is draw. So instead of say a fan drawing 12v, 15a, the relay draws 12v, .1a and converts that to the 15 required?
Also, what stops the relay from producing too much current?
does anyone know if i can use a relay for my voltmeter... it stays on all the time so i figured i can use one. but i need it to let quit a bit of voltage trough around 15 volts so if i use one that says 12 volts will it work or do i get one that says 24 volts or does it not matter? =/

hey , can relays work so they can turn something on when the power to the coil is turned off?
JD8853 3 months ago
@JD8853 the presence of current in the coil creates an electromagnet that closes the switch. no current = no magnet = no switch

@ljcalma14 ive already reversed it. when wall power goes off. the battery circut is complete

You should narrate tv shows. You have the voice and clarity. I thought I was watching a documentary on the history channel. Good work.

can you use the same power source for the coil if not will the power source short with the coil

What is the point of a relay though? It's just a switch that requires current to work, unlike a regular switch. How does it benefit the circuit?

@360xi Oh so is that there only purpose?
Annergize 8 months ago
@Annergize I believe so. Still there are some relays that confuse me cause they have 5 or even more teeth.

Thank you so much for this video. I've used relays before but never actually understood how they worked, but thanks to your video it seems so easy
