And Mario 3 is just astonishing. Anyone who disagrees can just be shown a list of everything you can do in that game vis a vis secrets and techniques. It's a behemoth of an interactive experience.

Glitches are real. Anytime you duck under a block, and then stand up again, Mario is programmed to scroll to the right until he can get out. So it is actually supposed to be like that, even though they most likely didn't think of it to be used like that.

@m03hawkman Because the hitboxes are made smaller than the actual sprites. And he isn't actually going straight through it, but on its left side. As this is a Tool Assisted Speedrun, he can choose to be as close to an enemy without dying, which he did.

@Lvl8Pikachu As mentioned, it stands for Tool Assisted Speedrun. When you make a TAS you slow down the game as much as possible. Most games run in 60 frames/second. For each and every frame, you choose what input you want to be made.

During the making you constantly use save states to help you fix mistakes and such.

The point of a TAS is to see how fast a game can be beaten wtih 100% perfection. Meaning if the same input could be done on console, this would tbe exact result.

@erickuehn22 I find it funny that people comment on that one in general. People should know that getting three of the same items would be a lot slower. So the TAS chose to get a mushroom in the end instead.

While this run is indeed great, it has been heavily improved (Around 40 seconds in a TAS) since the making of it.
