Long wall mining might be bad but if fails in comparison to Mountain Top Removal mining currently practiced in Appalachia. Just click my screen name and it will take you to my youtube page about MTR. They BLOW the tops off the mountains to get to the coal and push the waste (overburden) into valleys covering head water streams and much much more.
