the problem is that the Iranians were systematically disarmed eons ago. they're nothing more than targets for militaristic police and military soldiers. U bunch of idiots think that shouting one liners and political slogans are going to change ONE thing? You're deluded. Words don't change a damn thing; especially in a corrupt dictatorship like this. Obama will not make a statement in support of the protestors. Why? His defenders will say it will hurt the cause and add fuel to the dictators in Tehran. The truth is Obama and the left love to take up causes like global warming, but feel no ability, need, or authority to take moral stands on basic human rights. It is a shame but true.

this should show the world what the Iranian government is all about... Sad thing is that Irans president is friends with the Illuminati elites..sad day for the world and the people of Iran....
CNN had a reporter on the phone from iran that said he saw a policeman who was the leader of a small group of officers face a group of protestors and say something to the effect of: "i have a wife, I have children, I don't want to beat you." to me that sounds like a man who has orders and does not like them.
maybe now the world will understand how crazy is the iranian leader, he will do ANYTHING in order to hold on to his seat, god help these people in promoting freedom in their country

Typical response from a government that's afraid of everything. They're scared of Christianity (and every other religion) so it's prohibited. They're scared of women. They're scared of the media. They're scared of dissent. These "mullahs" are only cowardly and insecure men hiding behind the Koran. Nothing else.
We just need to pull up stakes and get out of the Middle East. It is a whirlpool of trouble, populated by millions of people who will hate us no matter what we do...
The incident publicly exposed the real line-up behind Mousavi that is now being played out in a factional struggle within the regime for the levers of power. While the so-called reformers like Khatami have played their role in casting Mousavi, previously known for his hard-line conservative views, as a liberal, the key powerbroker is Rafsanjani.
As Guardian correspondent Simon Tisdall noted, the man nicknamed the shark and the kingmaker has made no bones about helping to finance and direct Mir Hossein Mousavis campaign to topple Ahmadinejad.
Amid this intense factional struggle, both sides are exploiting the concerns of working people and youth for democratic rights and decent living standards to their own ends. Despite his vague promises of freedom, Mousavi is no more committed to democracy than his opponents
The implementation of his free market agenda, which will inevitably result in huge new burdens on the majority of working people, cannot be imposed without provoking resistance. As he did during his term as prime minister in the 1980s, Mousavi would not hesitate to use the full force of the state to enforce his policies.
The only social force capable of mounting a consistent struggle for basic democratic rights and an end to poverty and unemployment is the working class. The essential task is the building of a revolutionary party to mobilise workers, together with the urban and rural poor, independently of all factions of the Iranian bourgeoisie.
Such a movement must fight for a workers and farmers government and a socialist Iran as an integral part of the struggle for socialism throughout the Middle East and internationally.
The tired, failed promises and rhetoric of Marxist Socialism? Oh please! Now there's a fish that flies to the moon on wishful thinking. Socialism failed, utterly, and gave rise to the worst of all repressive regimes.
We r just screwed up in this region...All the regimes r the same it's dictatorship we r suffering from ...for my life why do they beat and attack people demonstrating peacefully ? don't we have the right of freedom of speech , then why do they treat us like criminals? they r announcing it's the state of human rights& freedom! well show us the freedom u r talking about or it's just an article in the constitution ...All love from Egypt & God bless every1 fighting 4 justice & freedom
I bet these riot police would think twice if they worried about a few well placed rifles in the crowd.
Yeah baby, some of you Basiji might not make it home tonight because some of you will be meeting Allah instead, before he sends you to HELL for beating innocent students.
not to mention it would end up as a civil war which could take years and number of deaths would probably jump to half a million or more like the past revolutions that happened in Iran itself.
jesus pig-fucking christ i just watched this video from my comfy suburban home here in USA. fucking mercenaries with no souls, like robots, randomly hitting anyone they can. this is obscene. videos like this make me seriously reconsider the idea of non-violence. i'm amazed the protesters these past few days have held themselves back and not sought revenge. they are better people than i'll ever be.
Amazing video. I admire those students for standing their ground when they knew they were likely going to be beaten as the police got closer and closer. My thoughts and prayers go out to them and all the others who are suffering because of this sham election.
@emceelynx, it is speculation about seatle.. violence should be not accept for any reason everywhere in the world, we should learn from our ancêtre.. we have to work all together to put our energy at the right place for a better equilibre between all our difference.. - no one can impose his view else for defend his own liberty
anyone who's spent time at protests in america will recognize these police tactics, this video could have just as easily been shot in seattle in 1999 or at last year's protests against the RNC and DNC. I hope the people of iran will be more successful then we've been here!
Think about Eastern Europe -- and the wave of countries who overthrew their communist governments--not one of them had US intervention. The person who said people had to free themselves is correct. If we intervene, Ahminijab will start the "Death to America" riots--and Al Qaeda will cheer us on because they want to see Iran toppled (they hate the Shiites and have been trying to provoke the US to attack Iran). Iran is 4x the size of Iraq, and at last count, we don't have the troops to do it.
iran gets help from hezbollah (lebenon) to help fight/kill protestors........its a fact in 1979 there were CIA agents in the streets of iran that kick started the revolution for ayatollah khomeini.....the question is: the american administration are fully aware of hezbollah presence in iran but still staying quite and dont want to meddle in affairs???
They are, because unlike most American students they're not spoiled rich kids (by world standard) who wouldn't dare endanger their comfy lives to demand justice.
And yes when I was in college I protested and risked arrest on numerous occasions.
I knew an Iranian guy who's fingers were little twisted stubs.. I thought he was born that way but he told me during the Shah's reign he avoided the draft for the war with North Yemen ('70's) and the Savak crushed all of his fingers and thumbs.
When the Ayatollah took over he fled the country and 24 hours later the "new" secret police were at his family's house looking for him. Those are the same folks in charge now.
I have a bit of an idea of what it is to be suppressed like that by how I grew up. But in reality most here in the USA has no clue what it is to fight for one's rights. Take it for granted.
Like let Bush did whatever they pleased. The people want it looked at and the gov is still going ho hum nothing to see here move along. Maybe this will teach us something as well. This is the first net communications for human rights ever.
You people are so brave, protesting with bare hands against armed forces across the street. Keep this awesome thing going. You are the inspiration to the whole world. It is horrible those things happen on regular basis on campuses during those glorious days of yours.
This is why we have the 2nd Amendment. When and if they are able to overthrow this government, they should consider using our constitution. It is a good one, and we are not using it anymore.

Strange that Mr. Obama has decided to sit on his hands and not make some statement in support of these people trying to make positive "change" in a country that will have nukes and a crazy man as president in the near future. Maybe it's because public opinion in Iran might be a product of the introduction of democracy in Iraq. And if Obama in some way supported change in Iran it could (gasp) be seen as proving what President Bush told us all along, that democracy in Iraq could change the region
Please educate yourself. The reason why Obama can't come out in support of the opposition is that it gives the hard liners and the IRGC an excuse to embark on a massive crackdown of dissident activity. It would destroy this movement. That isn't anything new. They have done this very thing in the past it's a long used tactic of the IR. If you ask an Iranian at these protests they will tell you Obama is doing exactly the right thing.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Oh sure, I see you're point. I'm sure the protesters don't want us to take sides either. Hummm, funny that they should write their signs in english though. Even Sarkozy has come out in support exposing this election charade. Your alledged reasoning is weak lake.
Your heart is in the right place, but this is the worst thing to do at the moment. Ahmenidijad is already trying to pin shit on "the west" and all we've done is watch and wait. If we actually did something then they would have MORE of an excuse to crack down on these people, and state run television and newspapers would go batshit insane with that propaganda.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You're right. What am I thinking. If Obama actuallty said something meaningful, the police might beat the shit of the protestors, er, oh well, never mind. Keep sitting on your hamds Mr. President.
Beating the shit out of the protesters is a lot better than bringing out the military and shooting the protesters. Yes, some have been shot so far, but it's mostly from the Basij which are fairly uncontrolled. If it becomes a "the west is invading" mentality then more of the heavy conservative groups in Iran will have a reason to get involved, and at the moment most of them are not.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Ok, you folks are right. Making a strong statement to the greatest state sponsor of terror in the middle-east might make them feel bad. :-( Instead, invite Ahmenidijad to the white house, bow down, and them fall over on your back and piss on yourself. Now THATS the message we should send. Obama is a weasel.
If you're trying to insult Obama that's all well and good. But if you're trying to say that helping the protesters at this point in time will work then you really need to do some reading on Iran.
you're an idiot... any overt attempt by the US to intervene, in any way, will only hurt the revolution... to be free, truly free, people have to free themselves.... You are AN IDIOT.
"From Mousavi's perspective, being mildly put down by Obama shows that he's not a secret puppet of the US government. It lets him show his nationalist credentials. This defuses Supreme Leader Khamenei's main attack on the Islamist reformers." - an opinion from huffpost. Tempac and lake are right. plus being associated with the "evil" west would turn away some of the still undecided public.

EmeterioBetances 2 years ago
As Guardian correspondent Simon Tisdall noted, the man nicknamed the shark and the kingmaker has made no bones about helping to finance and direct Mir Hossein Mousavis campaign to topple Ahmadinejad.
EmeterioBetances 2 years ago
Amid this intense factional struggle, both sides are exploiting the concerns of working people and youth for democratic rights and decent living standards to their own ends. Despite his vague promises of freedom, Mousavi is no more committed to democracy than his opponents
EmeterioBetances 2 years ago
The implementation of his free market agenda, which will inevitably result in huge new burdens on the majority of working people, cannot be imposed without provoking resistance. As he did during his term as prime minister in the 1980s, Mousavi would not hesitate to use the full force of the state to enforce his policies.
EmeterioBetances 2 years ago
The only social force capable of mounting a consistent struggle for basic democratic rights and an end to poverty and unemployment is the working class. The essential task is the building of a revolutionary party to mobilise workers, together with the urban and rural poor, independently of all factions of the Iranian bourgeoisie.
EmeterioBetances 2 years ago
Such a movement must fight for a workers and farmers government and a socialist Iran as an integral part of the struggle for socialism throughout the Middle East and internationally.
EmeterioBetances 2 years ago
The tired, failed promises and rhetoric of Marxist Socialism? Oh please! Now there's a fish that flies to the moon on wishful thinking. Socialism failed, utterly, and gave rise to the worst of all repressive regimes.

This is what happens when a populace isn't ARMED.
I bet these riot police would think twice if they worried about a few well placed rifles in the crowd.
Yeah baby, some of you Basiji might not make it home tonight because some of you will be meeting Allah instead, before he sends you to HELL for beating innocent students.
deepfreezevideo 2 years ago
if those people were armed- the basij would bring weapons and everyone their would be dead or wounded.
benegeseritwhore 2 years ago 6
not to mention it would end up as a civil war which could take years and number of deaths would probably jump to half a million or more like the past revolutions that happened in Iran itself.
saggifool 2 years ago
if they had guns there wouldn´t be any demonstrations, there would be a civil war, and that, my friend, would be a thousand times worse.

jesus pig-fucking christ i just watched this video from my comfy suburban home here in USA. fucking mercenaries with no souls, like robots, randomly hitting anyone they can. this is obscene. videos like this make me seriously reconsider the idea of non-violence. i'm amazed the protesters these past few days have held themselves back and not sought revenge. they are better people than i'll ever be.
dahsab 2 years ago 6
Amazing video. I admire those students for standing their ground when they knew they were likely going to be beaten as the police got closer and closer. My thoughts and prayers go out to them and all the others who are suffering because of this sham election.

@emceelynx, it is speculation about seatle.. violence should be not accept for any reason everywhere in the world, we should learn from our ancêtre.. we have to work all together to put our energy at the right place for a better equilibre between all our difference.. - no one can impose his view else for defend his own liberty
tofreal 2 years ago
anyone who's spent time at protests in america will recognize these police tactics, this video could have just as easily been shot in seattle in 1999 or at last year's protests against the RNC and DNC. I hope the people of iran will be more successful then we've been here!

HOW TO PROTECT AGAINST BATON CHARGES
RT: To defend against batons: Cut trashcans in half or use lid to protect in "roman legion formation".
Look for "roman legion formation" in google images, it's the first that comes up.

Good for you. I did one protest that I was scared of going to but I did. It was not big but I went.
This is ever so much bigger and harder to do.

Asiahands 2 years ago
I have a bit of an idea of what it is to be suppressed like that by how I grew up. But in reality most here in the USA has no clue what it is to fight for one's rights. Take it for granted.
Like let Bush did whatever they pleased. The people want it looked at and the gov is still going ho hum nothing to see here move along. Maybe this will teach us something as well. This is the first net communications for human rights ever.

Strange that Mr. Obama has decided to sit on his hands and not make some statement in support of these people trying to make positive "change" in a country that will have nukes and a crazy man as president in the near future. Maybe it's because public opinion in Iran might be a product of the introduction of democracy in Iraq. And if Obama in some way supported change in Iran it could (gasp) be seen as proving what President Bush told us all along, that democracy in Iraq could change the region
bluesmoke9 2 years ago
Please educate yourself. The reason why Obama can't come out in support of the opposition is that it gives the hard liners and the IRGC an excuse to embark on a massive crackdown of dissident activity. It would destroy this movement. That isn't anything new. They have done this very thing in the past it's a long used tactic of the IR. If you ask an Iranian at these protests they will tell you Obama is doing exactly the right thing.

Oh sure, I see you're point. I'm sure the protesters don't want us to take sides either. Hummm, funny that they should write their signs in english though. Even Sarkozy has come out in support exposing this election charade. Your alledged reasoning is weak lake.
bluesmoke9 2 years ago
Your heart is in the right place, but this is the worst thing to do at the moment. Ahmenidijad is already trying to pin shit on "the west" and all we've done is watch and wait. If we actually did something then they would have MORE of an excuse to crack down on these people, and state run television and newspapers would go batshit insane with that propaganda.

You're right. What am I thinking. If Obama actuallty said something meaningful, the police might beat the shit of the protestors, er, oh well, never mind. Keep sitting on your hamds Mr. President.
bluesmoke9 2 years ago
Beating the shit out of the protesters is a lot better than bringing out the military and shooting the protesters. Yes, some have been shot so far, but it's mostly from the Basij which are fairly uncontrolled. If it becomes a "the west is invading" mentality then more of the heavy conservative groups in Iran will have a reason to get involved, and at the moment most of them are not.
Tempacc86 2 years ago 3

Ok, you folks are right. Making a strong statement to the greatest state sponsor of terror in the middle-east might make them feel bad. :-( Instead, invite Ahmenidijad to the white house, bow down, and them fall over on your back and piss on yourself. Now THATS the message we should send. Obama is a weasel.
bluesmoke9 2 years ago
If you're trying to insult Obama that's all well and good. But if you're trying to say that helping the protesters at this point in time will work then you really need to do some reading on Iran.
Tempacc86 2 years ago
bluesmoke. you dont know what your are talking about. If Obama takes sides now, the regime will label the people "American Agents" and massacre them.
taking a stance now would be the WORSE thing US and Israel could do which is exactly what both are NOT doing. they are smart
Libra2000 2 years ago 4
you're an idiot... any overt attempt by the US to intervene, in any way, will only hurt the revolution... to be free, truly free, people have to free themselves....
