Yeah, after the mid-air collision when the act controller directed one aircraft into another, the DHL 757 and the Tu-154... DHL followed TCAS whilst the Tu-154 followed ATC...TCAS is better, more reliable
@DeltaEagle7700 Absolutely! ATC in FSX is absurd, I had to rely on my own TCAS to avoid traffic... More than once in poor conditions I saw the traffic on the TCAS before seeing it out of the flight-deck
This reminds me of the incident where an Aeroflot and DHL plane were on a collision course and both of their TCAS systems were going off. The DHL pilots were told to descend while the Aeroflot pilots were told to climb. Then ATC told the Russian pilots to climb and since they were confused as to which to follow (TCAS or ATC), they chose ATC and started to climb. The Aerflot plane ripped the tail off of the DHL plane and many died. I think that's when they made the rule to always follow TCAS.
@airbusandmustang. That is correct. TCAS has more eyes then ATC. That is why pilots rely on the TCAS to avoid A/C. As I said, whenever a TCAS warning is givin, ATC cannot say anything.

@HMSDaring1. Hear, hear! Espeically in flight simulator! Where ATC does not give you instructions to avoid a incoming aircraft!

@airbusandmustang Sorry, the ATC told the Russians to descend and so they did, thus causing the accident.

@TheBoeing144. Its the one I always use. Just Flight PSS 757. You can get it on the Just Flight website. But I wouldn't recomend it.....

Great info on the TCAS - The information you pass on about the different aircraft instruments is helpful.

@MercuryOneOne. Thanks! On old insturmentation aplanes, the TCAS is on the VSI. In this case the descent safe rate is on the ADI.
