One reason I am fascinated by Japan is what a country of extreme contrast it can be. Climates, fashion, and morals/values can be very juxtaposed. It is a very collectivist culture, that focuses as everyone working together to be one flawless effective societal machine. And yet they will have values like Tendenko, which is the extreme of individualism. It's intriguing to no end. And right after, they go back to a perfect collectivist society where no one loots and everyone works together. Amazing
I would have liked to hear Grandpas opinion on Tendenko....and if what his granddaughter did was the right thing....I honestly can say that-until you are the same situation,we cannot judge...I understand the principle behind Tendenko....but what about those that are unable to run and look after themselves....do the nurses/carers/families and friends leave them....I think they would atleast try until there is no hope of survival.....I think this Festive Season was sad on so many levels(◡_◡✿)
Corrupt officials who are loyal to the Party usually get pardoned. It is always the whistle-blowers who are persecuted and thrown into jail. And now the officials are talking about raising the definition of corruption to a million. Any corruption less than that amount is legal.
At least Japanese schools are still standing after the tsunami. In China's earthquake, millions of school children were buried alive under match-box schools built by the corrupt government. People who pointed this out and disputed the government's casualty figures are thrown into jail, but not one single corrupt official is responsible. That's the difference between Japanese and Chinese civilization. Corruption is still the safest business in China.
@minerva3181 corruption is a huge problem in china and hence the bad quality reputation they've developed as a country..if there's a cheaper way to get things done(and even if it means doing things that are gonna be harmful-e.g. tainted milk powder), they're gonna do it to save some extra bucks & get rich from profit...i think more than anything, the chinese communist govt should focus on quality control. they're all about "image" and "saving face" & what better way to save face than this.
@heomak Corruption is a deeply ingrained problem in China because even the general public (many of whom are victims of corruption themselves) seems to have accepted this as a fast lane to success, like bribing to get their kids into reputated schools, getting a better-paid job, even academic has a price-tag. Corruption is part of Chinese DNA, how can they fight corruption?
@minerva3181 CORRUPTION IS NOT PART OF THE CHINESE DNA..THAT RIGHT THERE IS A IGNORANT STATEMENT..CORRUPTION CAN BE FOUGHT IF THE GOVT STARTS PAYING THE OFFICERS BETTER AND MAKING SURE RULES ARE ENFORCED! THOSE WHO ARE FOUND GUILTY MUST FACE HEAVY PENALTIES TO TEACH THEM A LESSON ABOUT THE SERIOUSNESS OF CORRUPTION. WHEN THE OFFICERS DON'T BEND TO CORRUPTION, THEN THE COMMON MAN THAT HAS A TENDENCY TO ACT CORRUPT HAS NO CHOICE BUT TO FOLLOW THE RULES. IT'S THE SAME IN INDIA & BRAZIL
@minerva3181 hopefully the earthquake in tibet & sichuan( part of western sichuan is originally tibetan terriotory anyway) have taught the chinese govt some lesson in terms of new buildings..they need to get their act together if they wanna be taken seriously as a emerging super power(and trust me, the chinese govt wants that).
@heomak Tks for yr reply. Nowadays, Party officials are striving to make the last buck out of this complete mess and jump ship to Western countries where they can keep their wealth. That's why they are cutting all possible corners, even in their high-speed railway which is supposed to be the Party's pride. Saving face is not their top priority now, making money is. Yet the central govt is still suffocating the media with iron fist measures (like Ai Wei-Wei's case). This makes China hopeless.
IF you are showing footage of the Tsunami that just hit Japan, it is highly unusual and well done, However, I have seen you use "File Footage" in place of actual footage, some of which is even in different Countries.
IN any case, if it is factually representative footage, it is extremely well produced and edited.
@TheMankindopinion lol..that's funny.but he seem so chill & not at all pissed at her for abandoning him and neither does she seem embarassed...i know i would be if i had done that..but don't get me wrong, i ain't judging the woman. only god knows what our reactions will be like when something as crazy as that happens. we can all say "hell no. i would never do that EVER" but really, i'm sure that's what she prolly thought too(prior to the tsunami)". not saying everyone's gonna react like her
@heomak the fact that he survived and someone else was pushing him is a proof for her that she shouldnt not give up un him until the last minute!! im not judging her i just say i think she just gave up earlier than what she could!! i never want to be in a situation like that but im sure i will risk my life if it is a small chance to save someone else specially my family!! now is time to go and donate some blood ;)
@TheMankindopinion In a situation like this you react only with your instinct, you don't think anymore. How will we know what we would do? I think I would have done the same as this woman. At last you can only think for yourself, otherwise you die.
@TheMankindopinion but to say her reaction was unique and rare is incorrect. good for them that they can all gather around a table and eat and reminisce about such a tragedy...sadly, there are many families who do not have that opportunity.. rest in peace to all the victims of the tunami!
Good production. Nice family, I am happy they all survived. Hope they will find a better future.

There is a balance between self-preservation and self-sacrifice. Too much of either is a bad thing.
