I think this is such a shame to portray paganism in this weird way. I have yet to meet a genuine pagan who called himself a wizard, that is soooooooooo Harry Potter. Oberon Zell has been a leader of the Pagan community as head of the Church of All Worlds for nearly forty years, and he has been a major influence on the community for all of that time. Agree with him and his way or presentation or not -that is fine. But at least make some effort to know what you are commenting on.

i really believe that it would benefit all people trying to revive old traditions to study hindu rituals...as they are an unbroken stream of tradition....the pagan / witch movement is too tainted with judeo christian distortions....a great place to start is with the "PUJA" ritual worship of idols....hindus worship the gods long abondened by europeans!!! most anthropologists agree hindu dharm resembles what pagans in western europe practiced...yantras(sigils) mantras(invocation) etc. etc.

What's so distorting about Christianity, Christians have an extremely rich mystic and contemplative tradition (particularly when we are speaking of Catholics and Eastern Orthodox). You are aware that Hinduism is an ultimately monist/pantheist religion aren't you? The many gods are incidental to this larger more central aspect to Hinduism.
And I just wanted to say this, and it might sound odd, but remember - to us pagans and magical people, all things are interconnected: if our Prez signs into law a mandate that people like Morning Glory and Oberon MUST purchase health insurance from a private, for-profit provider, in order to afford that care they might be forced out of their creative ventures and into bland, 9 to 5 jobs just to afford that health care. And that would be very sad. The law impacts us all, magical or not.
Oberon talks about "reconstructing our heritage" but he's not a reconstructionist pagan, as are the Asatru and Kemetics and Celtic recons and all that, who ARE endeavoring to reconstruct actual culturally-specific pagan ways....

There is nothing in the Church of All Worlds tradition as Oberon as written for over forty years against science or modern medicine, or claiming that magick can prevent or cure cancer, although positive attitude as expressed through ritual can be of help in keeping one focused on one's care and healing. That he used modern medicine to cure his cancer is appropriate and no shame. The shame is in you and your vicious attitude toward a man who has survived a deadly disease.

I think my comment didn't post...Ricky, no, not all pagans believe in the Wiccan Rede. It's called the WICCAN Rede for a reason - it's WICCAN. There are a lot of pagan paths out there that do not adhere to the Rede.

What you read is just one persons or one sects belief of how they catagorize themselves and others. Its known to me and i thought that generally that wizards are the male counter part to witches, And alot of wiccan followers dont even call themselves or condiser themselves witches. Because of the negative conotations of the history thats apart of the word. Also they have been apart of the pagan life long before the current regeme has come along and made their own insights on what wizards are.
Hi sorry for taking so long to reply , firstly are u british or american , im english and most of the people ive met who are wiccan call themself witches either male or female. I myself am male and i call myself a witch , we ignore the negative conotations of witches , wicca means the wise and witches were the wise poeple who knew the land , its plant for medicine etc. We are proud of that heritage and im wondering if its a english/american distinction.
I know plenty of male witches too. The point i was trying to make that back when Oberonwas introduced into the craft the term wizards was fully acceptable for one to reffer to themselves as far as being a male witch. Now more modern times like to remove the barrier between male and female. So they gave the wizard a negative stigma associated with the name. But the fact is that there was a time not to long ago that is was acceptable for men to refer to them selves as warlocks with out a bad rep.
So how is Oberon doing? I understand he had to have surgery for colon cancer. Is he holding up ok? Best wishes to him as he recovers from cancer. I might not completely agree with his sometimes Gandalf-ian presentation, but he does seem like a nice guy.
His physician regards him as completely healed, as between surgery and chemotherapy all the cancerous cells have been removed or destroyed as of this date.

Most religious faiths tie in with Wicca. Even many of the Christian traditions were adopted from Wiccan traditions. God created the elements and gave us the power to tread upon evil. My only plea to you is to be a good witch, or WIzard rather.

Actually, the whole point of this video is about their statues and Mythic Images. Oberon's getup is really fitting when you meet him in person AND you see him selling in public. He is very proud of his getup. It is part of who he is, as an artist. I think it is important to see who Oberon is and how he fits into his artistic reality.
I always wear a 3-piece suit to public rituals. Also, I hate it when some pagans like to make it look like we are all hippie-type nut jobs. I am fine with people being themselves, it is just that I would like to see the true diversity of the pagan community showed for once, i.e., that some, like me, are actually boring people with urban office jobs who dress normally.
Most of the teachers at Witchschool dress normally in these videos, and many if not most of the interviewees are dressed normally in the videos. Don wears a robe in official ceremony but always a suit underneath in what I've seen. thus far. From what I'm seeing, you're getting what you're asking for.
Yahh, the witchschool and most pagans I have seen at events dress and act normally. A simple ceremonial robe is okay, as all clerics of all religions have their garments, but the "merlin" gettup has got to go.
A 3 piece suit is not really appropriate to most Pagan rituals which involves dancing, drumming, etc. that make you sweat. You must be a nice, calm ceremonialist. By the way, everyone's a nutjob. Pagans are just more honest about their nuttiness than some.
I usually wear jeans to rituals. I don't particularly feel the need to wear medieval garb or witchy robes. Most of the time that kind of gear isn't very practical anyway; in Florida, most of the time you have heat and fire ants to contend with. I go for comfortable and practical. Plus, I'm a 21st century woman; there's no need for me to play dress-up.

Everything is fine and wonderful, however there's one thing, do you "have" to dress up as a glimmering copy of Dumbledore? i really believe that it would benefit all people trying to revive old traditions to study hindu rituals...as they are an unbroken stream of tradition....the pagan / witch movement is too tainted with judeo christian distortions....a great place to start is with the "PUJA" ritual worship of idols....hindus worship the gods long abondened by europeans!!! most anthropologists agree hindu dharm resembles what pagans in western europe practiced...yantras(sigils) mantras(invocation) etc. etc.

And I just wanted to say this, and it might sound odd, but remember - to us pagans and magical people, all things are interconnected: if our Prez signs into law a mandate that people like Morning Glory and Oberon MUST purchase health insurance from a private, for-profit provider, in order to afford that care they might be forced out of their creative ventures and into bland, 9 to 5 jobs just to afford that health care. And that would be very sad. The law impacts us all, magical or not.

There is nothing in the Church of All Worlds tradition as Oberon as written for over forty years against science or modern medicine, or claiming that magick can prevent or cure cancer, although positive attitude as expressed through ritual can be of help in keeping one focused on one's care and healing. That he used modern medicine to cure his cancer is appropriate and no shame. The shame is in you and your vicious attitude toward a man who has survived a deadly disease.

What you read is just one persons or one sects belief of how they catagorize themselves and others. Its known to me and i thought that generally that wizards are the male counter part to witches, And alot of wiccan followers dont even call themselves or condiser themselves witches. Because of the negative conotations of the history thats apart of the word. I know plenty of male witches too. The point i was trying to make that back when Oberonwas introduced into the craft the term wizards was fully acceptable for one to reffer to themselves as far as being a male witch. Now more modern times like to remove the barrier between male and female. So they gave the wizard a negative stigma associated with the name. But the fact is that there was a time not to long ago that is was acceptable for men to refer to them selves as warlocks with out a bad rep.

Yes, the gangsta-gram is a bit over the top and the hat. But really, how is that an indicator to his worth. How surface-oriented and shallow. Both of them have offered an invaluable abundance of love, dedication, and beauty to our religion. I've seen Morning Glory's goddess collection and it's impressive and filled with love and devotion. The Aztec bat girl goddess is the one that stands out the most in my mind.

Actually, the whole point of this video is about their statues and Mythic Images. Oberon's getup is really fitting when you meet him in person AND you see him selling in public. He is very proud of his getup. It is part of who he is, as an artist. I think it is important to see who Oberon is and how he fits into his artistic reality.

I am fine with people being themselves, it is just that I would like to see the true diversity of the pagan community showed for once, i.e., that some, like me, are actually boring people with urban office jobs who dress normally.

Most of the teachers at Witchschool dress normally in these videos, and many if not most of the interviewees are dressed normally in the videos. Don wears a robe in official ceremony but always a suit underneath in what I've seen. thus far. From what I'm seeing, you're getting what you're asking for.

I usually wear jeans to rituals. I don't particularly feel the need to wear medieval garb or witchy robes. Most of the time that kind of gear isn't very practical anyway; in Florida, most of the time you have heat and fire ants to contend with. I go for comfortable and practical. Plus, I'm a 21st century woman; there's no need for me to play dress-up.

Everything is fine and wonderful, however there's one thing, do you "have" to dress up as a glimmering copy of Dumbledore? I think being a witch in the modern times id already difficult enough with the problems of being accepted, wouldn't it be much better if we stopped dressing up like halloween-clowns with pointy hats and pentacles the size of fists? If you're a witch and you know it, that's all that matters. Why try to take so much attention?
