  • This Demo was recorded in late 1977. with love is blind.

  • this isn't agreat sounding demo But its a Good song. unmasked is an Awsome LP! i love it & bought it on Tape in 1990.

  • This demo displays what was wrong with the album itself. No insult to Vini Poncia who is a damned good producer. He just wasn't right for the band. The keyboards and pop/disco influences he brought made for a few good songs, but in the long run watered down their style, creating an inferior product, which fewer peeps wanted.

  • Boring, like the studio more.

  • i like this version except for the end

  • That's Gene trying to be mellow to impress Cher.

Then, he recycled to try to impress Diana Ross. I wonder what kind of band Kiss would have become if Gene hadn't turned Hollywood.

  • @erikk73 Bunch of nonsense pal..

  • always liked this demo very majikal sound great harmouny

  • Possibly KISS's worst song.

  • No way is this worse than Shandi, Mr Blackwell, Uh! All Night, or Let's Put The X In Sex.

  • @Kohntarkosz That's funny, but I almost totally agree with you. I like Shandi. I can't place Mr. Blackwell offhand. But Uh, All Night is a fucking embarrassment, and Let's Put the X in Sex - yeah I had forgotten about THAT abortion. Fortunately KISS doesn't have TOO many suckass songs.

  • @Kohntarkosz

I beleive you just named the 4 worst KISS songs....AGREED!!!!

  • @blizzarddiaryozzy there are no bad KISS songs pal..

  • @jvflexx

I am the BIIGEST KISS fan in the world...there def are bad kiss songs, sorry man

  • @jvflexx

    I agree 100%!

  • @GymFloozie BULL, good song..

  • @GymFloozie Nope...check out THE ELDER..apart from "The Oath" and "Dark Light"..that album was KISS at their worst.

  • Pretty good version!! I love the chords! The memories are rushing in!! I was probably the only kid at school that bought this album!

  • How old were you? I was 10 and my mother bought it for me as a present in 1980. I don't think I even knew about the record until I got it.

  • I was 14 in 7th grade

  • Peter was not involved in this album at all, Anton fig was the drummer. Gene and Paul would often get their friends to play on their demos they were working on so who knows. It could even be Gene on that 12-string.

  • i know that peter wasnt playing on this album, but this is a really early version so it can be anybody.

  • If it's a demo, it might even be Gene or Paul. I think they both play drums and keyboards in addition to guitar.

  • According to the Box Set liner notes, Gene played bass and acoustic guitar and Paul played electric guitars (rhythm and lead). Drums were listed as "unknown" and Gene offered no insight as to who it may be with his comments.

  • FYI it's not so rare considering it's on The Box Set

  • @Hellb88 Anton was the drummer on Ace's solo album. I think Gene and Paul recognised talent when they heard it.

not to say that Peter wasn't a great drummer but if he didn't want to play on the album who were they to argue.

  • This sucks i thought this was the studio version.

  • KISSvideoCLASSIX

  • if its not ace...then why does 3:08 sound like fractured mirror??

  • Maybe Gene swiped the intro from Ace (or vice versa). Perhaps that's why it's not on the finished version of You're All That I Want: Ace had already used it on Fractured Mirror.

  • Gene said in the Box Set liner notes this song was written around the same time as Love Gun was written. So potentially (with some wiggle room) this song was demoed in 1977 or early 1978, well before the Solo Albums came to fruition. Ace most likely lifted this for Fractured Mirror. It didn't end up on Unmasked beacause Vini Poncia re-worked the song with Gene and got co-writing credit for it.

  • Do we have a time frame for when Ace wrote Fractured Mirror? Gene could have easily lifted it off Ace.

We'll probably never know who came up with that bit first.

  • No question.

But if I had to guess, I'd say Ace didn't write Fractured Mirror until just before, or during, the recording of his album. Based on his own admission, he's not the kind of songwriter that will write 50 songs at a time and sit on them for years, unlike Gene, who at times just writes songs for just the sake of writing songs.

Ace may or may not have heard this prior to Dynasty, but it's apparent Gene had an arrangement in mind for this song before the Solo Albums came about.

  • Interesting. Those are all good points. Well, if Gene was the who came up with it first, I wonder if he therefore should have a songwriting credit on Fractured Mirror, then. He doesn't strike me as the kind of guy to let such an opportunity to slip past him.

  • It sounds like that at 3:08 becasue it sounds like that at the very beginning, too...duh....

  • No it's not Peter and Ace

  • damn they sounded tired!did peter and ace play on this track?i like the 12 string sounds nice!

  • I like the sleezy sound and i love Gene's voice in this song, and i suppose it is Peter and Ace.

  • @Hellb88 nope peters out

  • great job hellb88!
