@yhello123456 - I've got all those details on my web site which has a link in the description. I start the beads as cubes with holes drilled through the endgrain faces - use a 1/8" drill for a mandrel made of a #8 woodscrew. Run the drill at its highest speed - a corded drill spins faster than a battery powered one. Hold the drill firmly and don't let it bounce or bend the mandrel.
@mike95healy - Look up "noho91" here on youtube. He has a few videos showing his techniques for making wood balls of the size range you are wanting. The black bead in my video is ebony. You can use any kind of wood, but I would avoid those that are particularly soft such as fir or western cedar.
@mike95healy - Largest I have made like this was about 2 inches diameter - and that took a while. A chunk of wood that big spinning on a drill would be dangerous and would also have problems with balance and vibration.
ive been trying to find the perfect beaded necklace for ages but just couldnt find any.. and i wanted to make a custom one but i dont have a lathe... so this really helped. once again, thanks heaps!
I just use a homemade drill made of a stick, some string and a nail. Works like a charm. Why buy tools when you can make them?^^

do you know any other way of doing it then because i'm trying to make a globe about 5 inches in diameter?
And what wood did you use for the beads?

I'll have to keep this in mind, in case we ever need any wooden ball bearings.
Maybe 'hardwood'.
Really swell videos, you need to have your own TV show.

Very nice. I have no use for beads but this technique could be used for many useful things for me :)

Thanks. I'm not into beading either, but some people are. I think they are a lot of fun to make and give as gifts.
