  • I want to do short rows for the back of a vest I am making. I have done all my wraps and turns with 30 stitches left for the neck. My question is: I knit over to the end picking up all the wraps (left shoulder). Now on the back side of the garment do I pick up the wraps for the right shoulder? Is it done on the purl side?

    Thank you

  • Thank You!

  • If I shape the left shoulder (as worn) the way you showed, Do I need to reverse the shaping on the right shoulder ? I mean, Do i need to start shaping on a purl row?

  • Yes--exactly. The side you start the short row on (knit or purl) determines which side the extra rows are added.

  • Great video, I have been trying to follow written instructions on shoulder short rows for my shawl and this makes it all come clear !! Very nice and easy to follow close ups. Thanks so much !!

  • Glad you found it useful!

  • You mean a back with no neck shaping? Work back and forth across the entire back, working a short row at each shoulder edge. After working all short rows, your final 3 rows are: knit across to beg of L shoulder, pick up K side wraps, turn, purl back to R shoulder, pick up P side wraps, turn and knit just R shoulder to neck edge. All your stitches will be on your needles, ready for 3-needle bind off on shoulders and picking up neck stitches for ribbing. Hope that answers your question.

  • Thank you so much for posting this video - I had a hard time following the written instructions. However, I do have a question. If you are working on the back of a piece and you perform short rowing for the shoulder portion, do you just keep turning and short rowing until the all the row are completed ? When do finish all the stitches?

  • Thank you THANK YOU!!! I could not understand the written instructions I have for this even with pictures. Now I can do it. THANK YOU!

  • So glad you found it useful!

  • I am working a pattern with my short rows in garter stitch. After wrapping and turning, the yarn is not in the right position. it all seems very awkward. any advice on which way to wrap? Could i just slip, turn, move the yarn between and continue?

  • The short answer is try it and see. You've piqued my curiosity, and as soon as I get home (4 days) I'm going to figure this one out.

  • Beautifully done. thank you.

  • Seeing the short rows in different colors like this made me understand how exactly a short row works. Despite watching other tutorials and reading about it, I just didn't understand it until now. Thanks so much!

  • tks is very nice, tks again
