  • Hi,

I downloaded Lyx version 2.0.2-1, and miktex 2.9. I was able to do whatever you did except view it as a PDF file. When I tried that I got this error

    "Latex Error: NO\title given"

Please advice me to correct this error

Thanks a lot for this nice video

  • @sahelatadakor

    Hi,

Thanks again. Now every thing is fine, I knew my error.

    Thanks again

  • Thanks very much. Awesome for a novice like me ...

  • Thank You So Much!!!

  • @capoman1 Hey man, I really can never thank you enough, for the first time I am using lyx, latex, miktex and stuff. And I did it just right!! with you step by step. Keep up the good spirit bro, take care.

  • great effort! cool stuff!

  • How do I get a image as a background in my document in Lyx?

  • ok here is my first comment on youtube because i usually wont comment on videos, but your work was great enough to encourage me to login and say a big thanks. it was really a great tutorial and even its a year old but it is still perfect.

thanks for your video and i really really appreciate it

    best regards

  • Watched the tutorials. They were fantastic. But it is just a shame that Lyx cannot directly edit Latex files, you need to convert them to Lyx format and then afterwards convert to latex.

I use Bakoma Tex which uses latex 2e engine and gives both source editing and WYSIWYG editor. Too bad I had to pay 80$ for it, which Lyx could have done for free, with little source modification from developers.

  • Thanks man, watched all the tutorial- it was excellent

  • First of All i want to thank you for this video, because i have no idea about the latex and i learn more about its use in all these 5 videos.

yesterday when our professor told about to submit your project work and final thesis in the latex format i was a bit scared about this but i thanks to you once again of all your work and i learn the basic and will now further i will move on.

    thanks

    Hanif.

    NUST.

  • Thanx dude, you rule

  • Thanks mate!

  • Thank you so much, I just finished watching the whole 5 vids and it seems like a great tool to use

MS office just sucks as far as equation editing goes

  • Thank you very very much. it was very useful for me

  • All I want to say is thank you.

  • Thanks capoman for the tutorials....

hey i have one doubt... i am working on my thesis... is there any format for writing the thesis report...

secondly i am a design student and want to insert images in the report... so how to insert the image and how to left align, right align center or insert many images in a row.. it wiil be great if you could help me. thanks.

  • Well Done.. This is really the easiest Way to get in LATEX..

Thanks for uploading such beautiful Videos..

  • Thanks so much capoman1! I am using TeXnicCenter and Miktex. However I am thinking of moving to Lyx, since through your tutorial I see it easier to use visually. But I wonder that if Lyx has all features TeXnicCenter do? Thanks for the videos again! :)

  • Thanks indeed for these videos! Great work

  • thanks!

  • I`m a brazilian student of math in UFSCar. This video introduce easily LaTeX , I recommend to any one that want`s to learn!

  • Hi, just wanted to say thanks a lot for the videos. I have been using La-Tex for some time and have a friend who was interested but incredibly afraid of all the cryptic code used. I dunno why I never thought to look for a GUI way of performing the same thing, but I found this somehow and want to thank you. Cheers!

  • Well done!

  • very nice to you to putting that online rather than only to your classmates.

    Very clear and useful.

  • Good job. Thank you a lot. I've been trying for about two weeks to begin working in LaTeX, but there is a lot of information (for me) to work with. Now I'm happy 'cause I found Lyx and your tutorial. It is much simplier to begin now. Thanks again

  • Great video. dude. hats off..!

  • thank you!!! I'm going to change from the word editor right now!

  • thanks very much . i think you got at least a job as a tutor!...and sometimes they make more money than teachers is you do it right...plus more freedom.

ps do you know where to find tutorials on winrats? or similar programs.

  • it is so clear and useful! Thanks more than a lot!

  • thank you alot... ! so greaT

  • Can you tell me how to write definite integral that looks nice, i can write it but its lil bit ugly ?

  • thx

  • Thanks for this informative video. I like all five videos a lot.

  • It is really usefull. you are really appreciatable. Thank you soo much.

  • Thank you for your efforts. It was really useful to learn things quickly.

  • Can you do tutorials on reports? like adding tables and pictures and formatting. it will be helpful

  • thanks. I think schools should do a session on this at the beginning of the year.

I disagree learning it from the source code like someone said. pointless(i dont want to be a programmer..thank you very much)

I have been using Microsoft office for my documents and writing it by hand on paintbrush. looks really ugly. arhhhh

  • I've watched all five tutorials, and found them hugely enjoyable to watch, so a big bravo from me. :) However, as an irregular LaTeX user for three years now, I solemnly believe you're wrong to advocate LyX over other text editors. I know that the LaTeX3 project (when it eventually gets finished) might change all this, but if you're going to learn LaTeX, you really should learn it the hard way, and that means learning the code _from scratch_. It's not the quickest way, but it's the best way.

  • seriously?

  • If I wasn't serious about it, I wouldn't have said it. Personally, I use MeWa and Texmaker as front-end editors with the MiKTeX distribution of LaTeX. It works for me, but I had to work at it to reap the benefits.

  • @crazylive: I did this tutorial as credit in a college proof class. Almost everybody in the classes are going to be math teachers and not mathematicians. So most of us are VERY proficient with MS Word for our documents, and it is hard to get the students to switch over to latex. Alot of the students are young women, and they are very stubborn to try anything new, especially losing out on formatting. So I think this is a nice transition; you will learn the commands from Lyx.

  • If they're going to be using LaTeX tools as maths teachers, then you should make them aware of the -beamer- package for overhead displays as well.

  • thanks a lot for sharing this wonderful video with us. Here i got another question with tex2lyx. I have tried lots of tex template , using "import Latex plain", while there is error all the time: Lys cannot convert tex file (no specific reason), could u give me some tips to me ? thanks

  • @capoman1 "Alot of the students are young women, and they are very stubborn to try anything new" this is a bit sexist but sadly true ^^. Also "especially losing out on formatting" is oversexist and overkill... but always true

  • @crazyclive:

I really disagree with your opinion. I used LyX to write my minor and major theses and several research papers without learning LaTeX.

Sometimes I needed to do some fancy layout stuff or put some helping stuff into the preamble (LyX has a preamble-editor dialog in the doc-settings menu).

I just googled for the LaTeX commands (or asked my friends and colleagues) and after a few minutes learned my tiny percent of LaTeX that I needed to enhance my thesis.

  • @ujvideo: If it works for you, then great. I'll stick with Texmaker, thanks...

  • @crazyclive Thanks for watching. I do not advocate Lyx over other free choices. But many people will appreciate not having to look at code in the Tex editor. so I was trying to hopefully sway more math folks to use ANY editor, but most importantly, to go with the standard format: .tex! So I just want to swoon people away from MS Word and I think this will have the best effect in doing that.

  • thank you so much! I'm working on my thesis, I was scared up til now to start tiping all on Latex. Even though I took latex courses, it's still difficult.

    Thank you!! God bless you

  • Thank you. Very helpful!!

  • awesome vids. where were you the beginning of the semester!?!

  • exactly what I was thinking, I had to endure a sarcastic comment after turning in a word document with equations and diagrams pasted in from paintbrush. felt pretty stupid, lol!
