@silverarrow112 geiko is just how you say geisha in kyoto and kansai dialect. You dont say geisha in kyoto if you are refering to a geisha of the five hanamachi. A maiko is training to become a geiko. A maiko is an apprentice geisha and not yet a geisha herself. A maiko's "equivalent" outside of kyoto has other names such as hangyoku in tokyo or Oshakusan
@pincushionllama Do you know a region where they are normally referred to as geigi? I've found that geiko/geisha line to extend beyond normally considered kansai/kantou to actually include most hanamachi above and below that split as well. For instance, in Kyuushuu (below kansai) they are called geiko as well. Geigi seems to be something like a "scientific name" name equivalent i.e. used to refer to geisha in general w/o recognition of region. The characters for geigi and geiko are the same btw
what this is bad! geishas don't act out a play!

Is this kabuki? I never saw geishas acting, only dancing and singing or playing koto or shamisen.

@vampireloveswerwolf they are kabuki actors playing geisha

Hm, like...
Geisha = woman
Maiko = Geisha girl
Or so it seems. Correct me if I'm wrong.
