I bought on of these about 2 years ago now and itsby far my favourite guitar compared to my Ibanez s series with Dimarzio paff pros and a custom made tele caster. I play a lot of rock and metal but it also sounds great with clean for blues, i havent been able to get a truely goo jazz tone out of it but that might be my problem not the instrument. Well worth the money!!
I know a tough choice, but what a great dilemma to have : P Personally I avoid any of the RW. The "thin skin nitro" will look RW in a couple years of steady playing. The Vintage HRs offer custom shop specs and setup for $700 less. I personally found the set up to be excellently performed. V HotRods = best strat for the money.
Depends on what type of music you play. Keep in mind the 57 HR has the hotter pick up in the bridge position and it kills the clean tone. If you want pure tone I can vouch for the 62 hot rod as I own one. Keep in mind, I paid $2300 for mine the next day I found a 2008 62 VHR on CL for 1/2 that. So if you buy new take care.
I know what you mean. I installed a bridge Pos, Seymour Duncan Hot Rails (similar to this one) in my 1962 Hot Rod and guess what, It sounds like a cheap guitar trying to sound like a Gibson.
I bought a 2008 1962 RI Hotrod. On Craigslist for $1240 with the sunburst finish (+$50 at GC). So I would wait for some one to sell their and save $1000.
I played one of these when testing an amp out in a store and must admit to re-coiling at the sight of those p'ups, but they definitely sound good! I found my favourite tone out of it was a 'Marshally' classic rock kinda sound, but it will handle heavier sounds no probs. I'd love one of these guitars!
Yeah. I can see the downside to have dual rail pickups. But if you want to play aggressive/loud and without noise. Your going to have to deal. But I find that most people react badly to dual rail design cause it gives away your dislike of fender stock pickups and that your strat now plays louder and more aggressive. whatever. lol. Its sooo late here. If you love stratocaster, but want to play Iron Maiden, Malmseen, and so on. Deal with dual rail pickups, you'll need them.
Our new Vintage Hot Rod '57 Stratocaster® guitar fuses the best of the old and the new in one smokin' instrument.Great classic features include vintage styling and a thin-skin nitrocellulosee lacquer finish; modern features include SCN pickups in the neck and middle positions, a DiMarzio® Tone Zone"! bridge pickup, a satin-backed neck with a flatter radius and medium-jumbo frets. Looks, sounds and feel both vintage and brand-new at the same time!
Our new Vintage Hot Rod '62 Stratocaster® guitar fuses the best of the old and the new in one smokin' instrument.Great classic features include vintage styling and a thin-skin nitrocellulosee lacquer finish; modern features include three American Vintage Strat® single-coil pickups (with reverse-wound/reverse-polarity middle pickup), a satin-backed neck with a flatter radius and medium-jumbo frets. Looks, sounds and feel both vintage and brand-new at the same time!
In a magazine I saw this guitar with a two point tremolo but with the traditional "pressed" saddles, wich I think are a lot better, the vintage tremolos with 6 screws in general have a problem in the G string who makes the higher notes sound mute.
It's really according to the sounds you're looking for. The 62 is possibly a little more versatile overall, but the 57 definitely gives better hard rock and hi gain tones.
Have it, it's awesome. you need one too.

They look like the 'Joe Barden' Hotrails pickups. He has some great pickups for any type of Fender, IMHO

I up-graded my American Strat to the main specs and saved myself $1000 bucks. Sounds the same and costed me less than half the price.

The DiMarzio or the normal bridge pickups that you f.ex finds on the 62' model.
