  • reminds me of looking up my cousin's skirt from under the dinner table, for some reason.

  • You did well to film with a normal camera.

  • Some people must make things up.I am an ex Babcok and Wilcox fitter, and built these boilers in the 70s. The boiler feed pump supplies the boiler with treated water, and the FD and ID fans supply air to and from the burners . The rest is common sense.

  • That's hell on earth!!

I welded on my share of boilers. That’s fly ash going in the hopper. I was welding on a boiler when a boilermaker fell from the roof panel and went through the opening you can see on this video. The hopper had not been installed yet. He went all way to the basement. I had only been on the job a few weeks then. Not long after that a steel worked fell on the back side of the plant. Both were killed. That was on the Duke Power plant in Belews Creek, NC. 1973 to 1975!

  • Very nice video. I work at a 600MW plant. Have tried to get the same video but the camera doesnt seem to like the heat/light!

  • and yes. when people ask me how hot it gets inside, I tell them: before you knew you fell inside you would have been turned to ashes. in other words : hotter than the blazes of hell

67tr876 to answer your question: carbon steel plus it has water running through it.

and also MOST supercritical boilers have diagonal tubes that run almost lengthwise around the boiler all the way up.

  • super critical boilers do have steam in the tubes they are just at a higher temp and higher pressure. the steam in any boiler after the priamary super heats is what you call DRY steam.

Example: when your teapot is on the stove and it is squeeling. if you look at the hole in the cover the invisable steam right off the tip is dry steam. the steam pressure is not suplied by the feed water pump it is provided by the superheating of steam. I build these boilers. I have been inside. Trust me.

  • thanks for the reply, I dont know why most people reject Jesus, perhaps they are too caught up in living their lives the way they want instead of by the rules of God. I know I am as guilty as the next person, I dont always do the "christian" thing, and I do struggle with that every day. I do know rite from wrong but the flesh is weak. I go to church regularly and have asked Jesus into my heart multiple times and I pray every nite before bed. I work in power plants and have saw this first hand

  • 1. If the boiler is a supercritical boiler, that means there is no steam in the tubes.

    2. The water does not turn into steam until it reaches the high pressure turbine.

    3. Pressure is supplied by the feed water pump.

    4. For there to be positive pressure, the ID and the FD fans would have to fail. In other words, the boiler exploded, or it was bring you kid to work day in the control room! Lol

  • @alpine1600s Your joking right?

  • @Jpisani13 Actually, taking your child to a coal fire plant is more dangerous than a nuke. So, really that's not a very good joke. I retract that joke. But in order for any firebox pressure to blow out through the bottom ash hopper door or test ports/boiler light port could only be caused by irregular or cataclysmic event. Startup is the best chance for such an event. Your weren't very specific, so I hope that answered your query.

  • Clinkers !!!

  • you should fly a toy helicoptor with a camera on it in there so we can get a better view

  • What type of pipe can take 1000F steam without grolwing red ?

  • This should be on every TV station 24/7,325 to remind people that Hell is real!!!

  • HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET IN THERE????????????

  • where is this unit located

  • this is exactly like our plant in Centertown Ky, although we run 450MW

  • thanks for this video man. I see this everyday as well

  • holy shit i just came from a power plant and saw this fucking hell

  • I am surprised to see this listed as a natural-circulating boiler. I thought to achieve 670 Gross MW you'd need forced circulation. I work on 2 CE Units, one 350 MW and one 230 MW, both forced circulation units. Both are 2.4k#/1000/1000 Boilers with separate SH & RH furnaces.

  • we have 2 erie city boilers, one is actually tits up

  • I have just applied for several engineering positions in Coal/Nuclear power plants. I would absolutely love to work in a plant like this. I absolutely love thermodynamics!

  • Comment removed

  • Its like looking at the vagina from hell ain't it boys

  • Great video. Good thing the boiler didn't go positive while you were looking in it. Lol.. Our bottom ash hoppers are always filling up with big clinkers so we get to see this all the time while we stick a rod in the boiler to bust up our clinkers.

  • @grandoz2002 A lot of times, non-operators will open the ports to see the "fires of hell" even without the proper PPE. Please use the utmost judgement when opening the ports on a negative pressure furnace. An induced draft fan can fail or lag. When this happens, a positive pressure condition exists without warning. Those portals then become "blow-torches" of several thousand degrees. As an operator, I strongly urge follks to respect boilers for what they are as grandoz3002 alluded to. Stay safe

  • that's a good flame there.....not sooty looking

  • Neat video, I am an engineer at a station with 2 x coal fired 1200MW units both with B&W boilers I've never seen a view of a bottom ash hopper with the unit running like that. Thanks

    What station is this at?

  • foster wheeler didnt build your boiler, the just gave the job to someone els and took some money off the top, while putting their name on it. cool video tho

  • hi,

i am Prasad ... currently making documentary on thermal power plant to educate about effects of the thermal power plant. I failed get technical information that how does it works. can you pls provide some videos so i can add it to my documentary. pls.

    Thanking u

    Prasad.G

  • what that water looking stuff in the bottom

  • You are seeing two hoppers that collect falling ash from combustion. They are filled with water to cool the ash and soften the impact of hard boiler slag falling and hitting the bottom.

  • @bpnta that's what is called the water seal isn't it? the ater seal between the lowest boiler wall and the ash collecting conveyor.

  • What a great piece of video. Both informative and fascinating I applaud the person who took these shots and the excellent sub-titles used as an narrative.

    Well done!

    AM

  • chuck some weed in there, if its really poluting the atmosphere might aswell calm down the whole earth while ur at it

  • @eacao LOL!

  • I'm going to school to be a High Pressure boiler operator and this video is great!

  • cool vid

  • wow amazing pictures ..THANKS

  • Awesome video. That's something I look at everyday. My plant has 2 195 MW Riley Stoker boilers (2400 PSI/1000F/1000F). I'm the performance engineer/boiler tuner at the plant. Who built your boiler?

  • @rockcrawlr7 Foster Wheeler

  • Nice video, nice captions.

I've worked in plant with 4) 150mw units for 8 years and I can see similarities in the boilers.

I thing the yellow part of the coal flame is 3000 deg F, and the Steam in the tubes is commonly 1000 deg F +, and 1800 psi +.

    Nice video!

  • i was looking into the doorway to hell...even the noise was the same...

  • Erm...how hot is it in there?

  • thats about the closest thing to hell you'll ever see

  • @gregory3829 The bible is reffering to the level of conviction one would experience from the wickedness they have commited. The bible says that a person would experience the coals of "conviction" heaped upon thier head. That conviction is 7 times hotter than here on earth.BUT; You are a creation based on water and there will be no water there. You will thirst..God only asks that; you believe your forgiven. He has supplied the sacrifice (Jesus) "Thats it".Do you know why people reject him ?

  • Wow cool video. Thats the kind of thing I've only ever heard of from my welding instructor

  • just another day to me...lol. cool video though.. i have worked the 1300MW units at Gavin Plant in Cheshire Ohio. they say you can line the walls from floor to roof with scaffold and its about the same amount used to cover the statue of liberty. they are freakin enormous! Again, very cool video though.

  • Woa, its the gates of hel!

  • So Frickin Cool I love the fireball. Too bad you didn't get a better shot of it. I realize it is smokin hot to say the least. Great video.

  • This is a great video! Where was it shot?

  • Bad!!!!!

  • hello,is this cottam power station?iv`e been a plater welder for 25 yrs but moved to the cotswolds,i realy want to get into the coded welding ,west burtons looking i hear, thanks for posting

  • cool!! different look than the combination boilers I work on. What is operating psi? What is output? looks like several mlbs!

  • wow great vid, how old is this plant?

  • I used to design refuse-fired power plants for FW...Now THAT'S what we should be building!

  • its pretty cool seeing the molten ash flow out of the bottom

  • Looks like Hell

  • Is this a CE Boiler? The view of the floor tubes above the ash hoppers through what I presume is an open water-cooled door is neat. I've never seen one opened during operation.

  • This is a Foster-Wheeler boiler.

  • Very cool vid! I am a Consrtuction Boilermaker by trade and these are pretty cool to work on!

  • it's scary, but really good!

  • Do you use SOP's?!

  • DAMN!Holy crap it takes my breaht away the first part it sliek..liek Looking into th epits of hell almost o.o damn

  • Crazy stuff! Having seen the same thing in person, it really is breathtaking, especially when you can look UP into the boiler.

  • God damn. Looks so hot I'm amazed you could get that close. I assume it was sucking air in and therefore there was no hot gas coming out, but still the infrared radiation must have been crazy.

Was that a special video camera with a heat resistant housing a a quartz window and stuff? Or just a normal camera?

  • You're right about this boiler being a balanced-draft, negative furnace pressure boiler. The video was taken using a regular cheap digital camera, being suspended by the camera strap!

  • I have never seen a door that size at the throat before. On ours it is at the bottom of the hoppers next to the washers. we have 4x1000MW units in one of our stations.

  • @bpnta Amazing. I'm really impressed with the video. You can sometimes see the strap coming into view being pulled by the negative pressure. How did you hold the camera with a strap? Were you standing directly behind the port?

  • nice wheres this boiler at and i thought is wasnt a good idea to open all those inspection doors while is running??

  • It's fine to open them, you've just gotta use the correct protection or keep yourself out of the line of fire in case it does go positive.

  • Yeah, I bet it's the first time you've ever seen inside, my next vid will be you sleeping in B/A.

    ;)

  • Man, thats kinda cool, i give it 5 out of 5 ;)
