I always liked this song a lot and for some odd reason Carnes' raspy voice works perfectly for it. But the female raspy voice doesn't work that well for many other songs, although for male singers like Rod Stewart it's a different story. Unfortunately Kim Carnes remains a one-hit wonder who never made much of an impact beyond "Betty Davis Eyes" being a hit thirty years ago.

Only a handful of a vocalist are blessed with that perfect combination of throaty rasp and good tone and Carnes was one of them. Rod Stewart had/has the same thing but he uses it now to sing lame adult contemporary crap that turn on my mother.

How old was Carnes in '81? When I was a kid, she always seemed just a bit older than the average pop star. I'm guessing 35/36
