To be Honest, Rhydian has not had the time in 2009 to commit himself to any contract on the musical stage. His first album went double platinum, then a Uk and Ireland sell out tour, and straight back into the studio to record O Fortuna, which I have to say is an album he should be so proud of. His beautiful Baritone voice is portrayed magnificantly in this second album.
He sang this fantastically well on his tour at the dates I saw him performing this song. His expressions on his face during the song were magnificant. Really immersed himself in the song.
Just amazing talent, just a pleasure to watch and listen too, gives me shivers and brings tears to my eyes.....would make a BRILLIANT phantom ...!!!! wish he would come to australia...!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALW needs no hints whatsoever. He's clearly a big fan of Rhydian's. I wonder how many other performers ALW took out to dinner to ask them to perform at his birthday gig? Make no mistake, as soon as it's feasible, he will get Rhydian onto the West End/Broadway stage. Apparently Cowell is relaxed about the prospect. Simon's never had an artist who could literally be a susperstar in so many differing genres in his stable before. Must be exciting for him.
i was there!!!!! he was just fantasticcc and he definatly should have wonnn although he has done so well, he didnt really need to win lol, ive heard more of him than Leon since thennn !!
Fabulous. Wish I could have been there. Just heard Not A Dry Eye in the House, What If & Impossible Dream on BBC Radio Wales from his new album. Sublime (it's on Roy Noble Show on BBC I Player). Can't wait for album
The best MOTN i've heard yet. I think with his album he'll become a global star..not many performers move me, but he did.
To be hear on stage with the orchestra next to him, he probably wouldn't have heard the crowds shouting so much. Being a prof performer he was probably absorbed in the performance anyway. You have to expect screaming and shouting at a concert..its a fans perogative.lol.
Hi DrClaudita I have seen Ramin in London! Yes he is very good. However what has happened over time is that the character of the Phantom has changed. Michael Crawford created the role originally and played it on Broadway. Crawford is a better actor than Ramin and brought sensitivity to the part. Rhydian is classically trained for Opera, so the Phantom as a part wouldn't be a problem. Webber wanted him to sing this! It is a poor recording but an extrodinarily sensitive performace.
Does anyone else remember a video of ALW that was shown prior to one of the 'performances' Rhydian gave on the X Factor last year. In this very short video ALW stated that Rhydian would make a very good Phantom. That was as far as I remember all he said, but I have always thought it spoke volumes.
sonic3693, yes I also remember ALW saying that There are other clues as to just how close Rhydian and ALW are, btw. Rhydian announced on stage in Southamton before he sung this very song that he 'spoke to Andrew Lloyd Webber (note not Lord Lloyd Webber!) to ask permission to sing the song and ALW had said 'fine, you can sing it'. Note the word SPOKE, he clearly has ALWs personal phone number. Here's the video: v=BAiULPR7zKE - just put that in the search box on here.
Whether Rhydian is classically trained, stage school trained - whatever - his is by far the best rendition I have ever heard of MOTN - magnificent and so emotional. Thanks Tracey for sharing! :)
I am a fan of Ramin's Phantom he's excellent. He follows in the Tenor tradition that is played in Phantom around the world. There is a tradition of having great singers such as Josh Grobban sing this! Rhydian is classical not stage school trained. What you are hearing is the character layers Light and Shade of a Great Singer. Rhydian isn't a one trick pony either he has done this with other songs! Who would understudy him? I suspect he will sing Concert rather than shows. Brilliant isn't it!
I have to agree! I've just been listening to Karim Raminloo (current Phantom?) singing this song an the Alan Titchmarsh Show (v=jVZhy-7rBmQ) and whilst I accept he's an excellent singer, Karimloo's rendition doesn't in any way stand up to Rhydian's amazing version IMO.
When you consider this bloke is just over a year out of Uni it just makes you realise what sort of extreme talent we are witnessing here. ALW clearly recognised it very early.
I have to disagree with you with all my respects...did you ever went to see Ramin in West End? I did. and he is amazing! you should consider to go to the Phantom of the Opera in London , stunning performance.
Thank you Kennelmaid1 This was world class singing and I think you would have to be made ofstone if you didn't react! When Paul Potts auditioned for Britians Got Talent the audience stoodup andscreamed their appreciation! Rhydian is a great artist. He emotionally moves his audience! It takes Great singing to move 40000 peopel like this!! Wonderful
The whole show was recorded for BBC Radio 2 and will be broadcast Radio 2 on Friday 10 October 2008. Rhydian has had 5 years classical singing training. He has his first album due out in November recorded in sweden LA (USA) and Nashville.
I was there at the back - and he held the audience mesmerised. A young man of 25, just a year out of uni, holding his own against stars of the West End stage. He must have been so nervous. A perfect, beautiful voice. The definite performance of a great song - what a future he has before him. KM - thanks for the vid - one to remember for a very long time.
I just love everything about Rhydian's performance, for me, it's sheer absolute perfection!
Well done Rhydian, I hope you're really really pleased with your performance. You're too good for normal adjectives, your supporters are running out of words to describe how wonderful we think you are! :)

Here you see the Phantom. Rhydian switches between styles of singing.
Here we should think of the Voice of the Phantom and the intensity of His Passion. Its great musical theatre! I think he needed to cut 10% of his hand movements but this was recorded for a Radio broadcast.
Tears in my eyes listening to this, amazing performance. He has such a beautiful voice, looking forward to the album (and would never normally buy albums on the back of reality shows but he's a REAL talent!).
Some of his vowels were a little bit strange, and most of his breaths weren't silent, (which is a part of healthy voice production) but otherwise, A brilliant performance.
Notice the Orchestra loved this performance! The Conductor was visible happy! the Lead Violinist clapping his hands against his leg! They know how good he is!
Rhydian sang this at a slow tempo! This is incredible difficult because he is sustaining long notes without vibrato and with Power! His breath control and technique is out of this world. This is noramlly sung by a Tenor and His Baritone brings the Phantom To Life! The high notes spot on effortlessly!
Good comment Sarahschem - this isn't just another song to be sung, it's far more than that, and Rhydian is portraying the poor old Phantom perfectly! The emotion portrayed in his voice is incredible, really awsome and the more you listen to this recording the more you can only marvel at Rhydian's skill....
I wonder why some people think that Rhydian's performance was "over the top".
His vocal were the best of the night and with his "acting" he has brought to us the picture of the Phantom as a tortured soul deeply in love yet scared and devastated knowing his love will never be returned.
The problem is that many people don't understand the tragedy of the Phantom character!
Rhydian is brilliant with portraying the haunted, tortured soul of the Phantom.
Umm...as a graduate with honours from the Birmingham Conservatoire I think Rhydian already posesses a good knowledge of "stage presence" his performance of MOTN is mesmerising. He commands attention on that stage and gets it imho!
Ouch, spelling errors! I cannot wait for his new album coming out in November! It was collorated with some best composers in the music industry. I am proud of being one of his millions international fans.
